Tucked away steps from the French Market and Mississippi River in the heart of the French Quarter, the Hotel Villa Convento is a warm and cozy guest house, offering guests the personal service of seventh-generation New Orleanians, the Campo's. Rumored to be the legendary House of the Rising Sun, this building is a creole townhouse dating back to the 1830s.
Enjoy a cup of chicory coffee on the courtyard or be encapsulated by the sounds and smells of the French Quarter sitting on a balcony -- a stay at the Villa Convento will provide many memories, not just a place to rest your head. The balconies overlook romantic Ursulines Street, with views of the carriages passing by and the tops of ships floating down the river.

Services
The Campo family, a member of the Los Islenos people, migrated to Louisiana in between 1778 and 1785 from the Canary Islands. An offer of free land from the Spanish government enticed them to come to New Orleans. The family has lived in New Orleans since then. Warren Campo Jr. is the great-great-grandson of the first Campo who immigrated to Louisiana.
In the heart of the French Quarter, the Villa (as locals call it) its steps away from all the attractions. Located in the Lower Quarter, this side of the quarter is where locals live and play. The Upper Quarter is more touristy and commercial, but still only a 5 minute walk away. We are next to the Ursulines Convent, which is one of the oldest buildings in the Mississippi River valley.
The balconies overlook romantic Ursulines Street, with views of the carriages passing by and the tops of ships floating down the river. The most popular rooms which have exposed bricks and tables and chairs outside where one can enjoy a croissant with cup of coffee or bottle of bubbly. The loft rooms are on the third floor in the courtyard.
All rooms have A/C, heat, full bath, windows, cable TV, iron and board, hairdryers, alarm clocks, and Free WIFI. We also offer a microwave and refrigerator in the lobby for guests to use if needed as well as an atm, ice machine and vending. Some rooms do have mini fridges, if you would like one of those rooms, please call to book directly with the hotel so we can guarantee it.

Wonderful gem in the French Quarter!! This is not "luxury" per se, just a comfortable, safe, affordable place to enjoy in New Orleans. The location could not be better--- just 3-5 minutes away from dozens of enjoyable bars and restaurants on Bourbon and Royal streets. Far away enough from the center of action so you don't have to hear everything in your room all night. I stayed in Room 205 and had absolutely no problems with water pressure, temperature, nor wifi, they were all perfect. The fridge/ freezer were wonderful assets and kept my goodies well chilled. Sadly, unlike

Superb location in the quarter! The hotel exceeded our expectations with location and hospitality. Warren and the rest of the staff are so kind, generous and helpful! Being an older hotel, we weren't expecting many amenities, but we were pleasantly surprised with free coffee in the lobby, and a fridge and microwave for our use. The rooms with a balcony are a must! We ordered breakfast to go from the restaurant across the street and ate on our private balcony. What a treat! The price for the location can't be beat. We'll definitely stay again when we go back.

Villa Convento is right on the edge of the French Quarter. Within walking distance to a lot that NOLA has to offer. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The room was very clean as well as the bathroom. There's a lovely courtyard and an elevator. The front desk staff were friendly and knowledgeable about current happenings around NOLA. Definitely would stay again!

Fair hotel. Cute/Small Courtyard. Location is great, few blocks from Cathedral/Jackson Square and French Market. Free Parking is hard to come by in NOLA- Great Bonus for this Hotel. Parking is an old warehouse off Frenchman street. Only 6 spots available and snug.
Suggestion get a balcony with an overhang if you plan to spend anytime on it. Rain is almost always in NOLA. Street view is nice with the Mule Carriages, Since this is the Hotel of the "Rising Sun" they come by.
I read other reviews about the homeless, towels having to be brought to lobby, etc.
Price very reasonable for

I love the historic charm of this quiet hotel with beautiful views. The staff is very friendly and the price is affordable. I would recommend coming to Hotel Villa Convento if you enjoy quiet home like place to stay. The hotel is right near the French Market area while also being just a short 5 minute walk to Bourbon st. Located right off Ursuline st and Royal. The Views are amazing!! If you stay in room 400 or 401 you can sit on your balcony at night and see the lights of the Mississippi River with large boats passing through in the night.I would definitely come back again. This was my third time

Immense history but definitely an older place so don't stay here if you are looking for luxury. Its super cute though and has a gorgeous courtyard and the staff are very friendly.
This place is haunted though. I randomly found it on hotels.com and had no idea about the history when I booked but I had a really weird night.. I felt another presence and saw someone in my mirror reflection and something woke me at 5am.

This is the best location for everything you want to see/do! Walk wherever in only a couple minutes. Could it have had more frills? Yes, but I would have had to pay out the nose and listen to street noise all night. So quiet here! It's historic and nostalgic and couldn't be more perfect for those of us who value those type of things. Felt safe, even walking at night. Staff are very personable.
First stay here at this hotel and glad I chose it this time. We will be back again next time!

This is exactly what I was looking for during my last visit to NOLA. I've always wanted to stay in the Quarter, off the busy streets, in a room with a balcony. It was fun watching the haunted tours walk by at night. I don't believe in ghosts, but something the first night touched me and woke me up - and it wasn't my boyfriend! Perhaps it's because I Wikipediad the LaLaurie house right before I went to bed. I recommend you don't do that! Yes, the room was pretty small, and old (I loved that about it), but none of that mattered. It was clean, the bed was comfy and

Quaint hotel in a great location. Stayed here a few days ago for 3 nights and we loved it, the rooms are simple but served all of our needs perfectly. Darren at the front desk was great and helped add to our great experience.
Location is great. Verti Marte, the LaLaurie Mansion, and the Ursuline Convent are about a block or less away. The French Market is a 5-minute walk. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for peace and quiet.

The front desk staff can help you with finding everything from restaurants, little neighborhood grocery stores and directing you to tourist attractions, the casino And where the street cars are. The house keeping staff are polite and thorough. warren campo is a wonderful person and can get you a house of the rising sun shirt!

We stayed in one of the two rooms on the top floor, Room 401. It is my understanding there are only 25 or so rooms to the entire hotel.
I would love to give this place a bad review so that it isn't booked when I want to try and get a room but I simply don't have the heart to lie. I was extremely apprehensive booking when I read so many terrible reviews. People said it was filthy, wet, etc. Listen, unless you live in a crystal palace and won't drink anything except Dom Perignon, this place should not offend you. A solid 3 stars. It's not your Hilton or Marriott, but that's also why we decided to stay here.
The staff was great. The room was clean. However, there was a certain odor to the room that reminded me of a not-so-clean family vacation spot we do every year. History of that aside, I'd most likely stay here again. The ease and location close to everything is beyond convenient. Besides, you're not visiting the hotel... You're visiting New Orleans.
Our room was 101, just next to the very cute courtyard. Thank goodness for our AC unit which helped with the humidity. We always

Stayed in room 400.It's the top floor so you get a private balcony/patio and a shared one.Loved the view and you're like 3 streets or so from Bourbon street.Cool bathroom with separate tub.Only drawback was parking garage is like 5 blocks or so away and fills up quick. There is however a paid parking lot (well lit) right across their garage.Would for sure go again.

This was a very nice old style hotel in New Orleans' French Quarter. The woman at the front desk was EXTREMELY nice and helpful. It's clear that she knows the area very well and had great suggestions on how to do what we wanted to do, and places to go. The hotel was an adorable brick building with the classic French quarter iron fencing/balconies. There was an outdoor enclosed courtyard and a balcony at the top with a view of downtown. My only qualm was that some things were not repaired, such as peeling wall paper, which in my opinion is not a big deal. Highly recommend.

I just booked a second stay at The Hotel Villa Convento for my upcoming vacation in February 2018. This boutique accommodation is just the right fit for me with it's budget friendly rates, cool quirky charm and its warm and hospitable staff. Their location on a quiet residential street is an easy 10 minute walk to all the main places that myself or anyone else would want to go. From there you can easily head over to the party on Bourbon Street, the shopping on Royal Street, the food at Café du Monde and The French Market and the history of Jackson Square. If that's not enough, there

This is my favorite hotel in New Orleans by a landslide because it's the most Nola place to stay. It's old and kinda dingy but the service is phenomenal and it's not too expensive. I request a balcony room because it looks into the pastry shop across the street so I can creep on passerbys with my morning beer and danish. It's a stop on a ton of ghost tours so you get to post up and listen to people talk about how haunted the hotel is whilst listening to House of the Rising Sun (which the hotel is known for inspiring). It's the perfect setting for balcony drinking.
