Visited for the first time Friday night. Great attention to detail, we requested to sit near the fireplace, we were right next to it. The staff could not do enough for us. Now to the food, first word, excellent. Every place you visit clam chowder is unique, The Conservatory has there unique and very tasty recipe as well. All 4 of us enjoyed the uniqueness of the offerings. Everything was prepared in a fresh, distinctive way. Even something simple as spinach was delicious. I can't wait to go back.

Small seating area in the enclosed conservatory at the Vanderbilt Grace hotel, so reservations are pretty much a "must-have" if you want to get seated. I am not sure if you could just walk-up and get a table, even during the off-season.

Had a great lunch here during Restaurant Week. Cocktails first, then the corn chowder, followed up by a Steak Sandwich for me, and the Crab Cakes for her. Both were really good, and the dessert - a pumpkin cake with white chocolate mousse - was also fantastic.

Overall - it's a very classy place to take a date for a quiet meal. Not a lot space

From the moment we were asked if we were hotel guests and said "no", we were treated like second class citizens. We were not offered water until we asked for it, and waited a very long time to have our order taken, and the outside patio area where we were seated was not even crowded. The waitress was pretentious and acted somewhat condescendingly towards us.
I ordered the caesar salad with chicken. The chicken was obviously not freshly grilled, but was cold and way overcooked. My husband ordered the caesar salad with grilled shrimp. They were NOT fully cooked! a relatively simple order

While food is certainly a matter if taste. I think that people find a particular critical item and they take down the whole restaurant with a low rating or give too many stars for something that is not worthy only because it was a great value or there was on thing in particular that was out of the ordinary. It is with this in mind that I give the conservatory 5 stars.

The whole staff at each position was friendly ( not too much ) and extremely efficient. My martini was truly special ( the bar is deserving of its rep ) The patio in the evening is spa like, particularly considering your in the

My husband and I went here to celebrate our first anniversary during a midweek escape to Newport.

We sat outside on a warm and breezy summer evening. The surroundings are so peaceful you would never guess that you are a few blocks from all the action. There were nice water features and beautiful ornamental gardens planted around the patio.

Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and appeared out of nowhere at exactly the right times.

We both enjoyed our meals (salmon and lobster mac and cheese) and cocktails. They happily accepted my husband's request to fully cook the fish, which is

Great lunch - the Mussels appetizer was superb! Made with Fennel - the best I have even had - and I have been eating dishes made with mussels for many years. Wonderful creation Jonathan Cartwright!

What a fantastic jewel. It made our stay. Quiet, beautiful garden to eat in. Solicitous waiter. Endearing fire pit--it was gas, but it took a long time to figure that out. Excellent food. And quiet, quiet, quiet. We went every night for the week we were in Newport.

After a long day of Newport Mansion tours my husband and I went to this restaurant hoping for a nice dinner based on previous reviews. I made reservations online at opentable.com and was surprised that the restaurant was offering 1000 points vs. regular 100 per visit, but was not concerned. We were seated outside, the atmosphere was very relaxing. We ordered two glasses of Riesling.
The service was good, but very pretentious. The words "superb", "fantastic" and "I am so happy you liked the meal" seemed to be at the top list on our waitress' vocabulary list. It

The conservatory was a gem of a find in a fun but touristy city. There are lots of restaurants along the waterfront, and some of them are probably very good, but they are crowded and overpriced. The Conservatory is only a half a block up from the main drag (Thames Street) but in its own private courtyard, it feels a world away. The food was fantastic (highly recommend the Halibut) and not terribly overpriced. THe servers helped us with wine pairings that were fantastic, and we felt pampered. Danielle and Robert made our evening fun, relaxing, and delicious!!

I have the feeling this is a bit of an undiscovered gem. The Conservatory shares a kitchen and wine list with its much pricier big brother Muse. Everything we had, from bread through desert, was delicious and the setting was lovely. While I can understand how some people might feel abandoned in an empty dining room, we never had to wait for anything, even water. Our waitress told us a bit of the house's history and how much of the art was of Vanderbilt and the mistress he built it for. Take a moment to look around at the art and grab a drink on the roof top bar, it has a great view of the

A group of 3 of us went for NPT Restaurant Week. I had heard of Jonathan Cartwright who is the Exec Chef.
Being that it is November in Newport, it was quiet. But we were the ONLY table for our 6pm reservation. Ere was no one else there until after 730 and then it was only 1 other table.
The Conservatory dinning room is not the main dining room, but rather is in a 3-season room off of the lobby. A gorgeous spot that leads into a lovely patio with chairs and a fire pit. Would definitely be a great spot on a warm summer evening.
The service was formal, but became less so (in a good way) when we
