Services
Our goal is to provide a great fitness experience for members of all ages in a clean and safe environment. We're dedicated to the integration of medicine and fitness to improve community health by focusing on prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of lifestyle-related disease. Always interested in sports and fitness, acac owner Phil Wendel first joined a fitness club when health spas became popular in the early 1970s.
We are currently hiring across several departments including Member Services, Aquatics, Youth, Housekeeping, Cafe, and more! Team acac is a talented group of health and wellness professionals dedicated to the success of our members. In addition to holding top credentials in their respective fields, our team members have a passion for hospitality and service.
After a challenging year in a pandemic and the pending expiration of our facility lease, acac has made the difficult decision to close acac Hunt Valley. We have loved being part of this community over the last 5 years, which has made the decision. Desk jobs make it difficult to exercise one's body properly and can lead to a largely sedentary lifestyle with health hazards galore.
Our youngest acac members enjoy fitness floor privileges, family time, and free, onsite child care. We are a welcoming club community with a broad range of amenities that attracts members of all ages and stages of life. While I was just halfway through the program, I was feeling the healthy benefits of the significant weight loss, and was inspired to sign on for a full year's membership with acac.
We are a welcoming club community with a broad range of amenities that attracts members of all ages and stages of life. I had faithfully gone to the gym 2-3x/week until this past December when I had a freak injury, rupturing/tearing all 4 quad tendons on my left leg. Just as I finished PT, the shelter at home began so I spent the entire year away from ACAC until my return in August (I'm medically compromised so had to be sure it was safe for me).

I have been coming to the ACAC for almost a year now and I generally love this gym. Their cleaning staff is constantly making sure things look good and the front staff is always so friendly. Also they have an amazing selection of exercise classes. My only complaint is that some of the younger male employees sometimes walk around and flirt with the gym goers- which seems slightly unprofessional. But otherwise- no complaints from me, they're so kind and it's a great gym environment.

We were at acac a few years. Used to be good. We are canceling our membership due to acac charging if you miss a class. We already pay 170 a month that includes all classes, since they were closed down they will charge you if you don't make a class. You have to sign up 25 hrs in advance and no matter what happens if your not in class you signed up for its 10 dollars they charge your credit card. My dad died and we had a rough month, they could care less, charged us 10 dollars. We always called if we could not make it, did not matter, 10 dls. One day I woke up not feeling well, I called. Charged

This is a really large ACAC - definitely my favorite gym in Cville. There's every machine you could want and the dumbbells go all the way up to 120 lbs. There's also a turf area for stretching and abs as well as battle ropes and a giant tire! There are squat racks with barbells and plenty of plates to go around, with some cardio machines and an additional stretching area upstairs. There's even a racketball court and a track! The changing room is really nice (almost as nice as an Equinox) with showers with glass doors and shampoo and body wash in the showers. I really enjoy the steam

ACAC is the premier health and fitness club in Charlottesville. With several gyms in the area, I can pick and choose which one to go to and which group classes to attend. My membership allows me to use kid zone to drop off my toddler while I work out and I'm also welcome to use every Charlottesville and Crozet facilities.
One of my favorites is the Albemarle location. Although my age range is under represented here, I still find the classes such as yoga, tai chi, nia enjoyable. It is also inspiring to see people in later adulthood taking care of themselves through exercise.

Definitely like this layout better than the ACAC near downtown mall. It's spacier and just more comfortable. Parking is also a little easier since the lot is bigger. The weights area is also a lot less crowded compared to the downtown location. The assisted squat rack here is also newer and not wobbly like the one downtown. There are fewer unassisted squat racks but also a lot fewer people lifting. There are also a couple more assisted pull up bars and more mirrors around. Would definitely pick this location over the downtown one if it weren't for the horrible traffic on US-29 during

I love Acac, but the front desk people are continually extremely rude. As a paying customer I would expect to be treated nicely. Great gym, rude front desk staff. I don't think I have ever had a nice person at the desk, and hear the same from other people. They have great equipment, and the staff on the floor are always very helpful and nice. The equipment is always clean and working. Just don't expect a friendly greeting when you walk in.

Really fantastic fitness facility. I had a hard time convincing myself to join because the price is a little steep, but it is really worth it. Great range of classes, lots of fantastic instructors, awesome membership perks, cafe, pool... I also have to say That the water pressure in the showers is great. I even enjoy showering at the gym now!

I have had a great experience here. The equipment is top-notch, the facilities (pool, locker room, workout rooms) are nice, the staff is helpful, and the classes are amazing.
When I began my membership I solely used weights and cardio equipment. I transitioned to swimming and running, and now I do yoga three times a week.
I'm very happy with this place. In my opinion, it is the finest athletic club in Charlottesville.

I'm giving this 4 stars simply because I had several encounters with an extremely rude front desk employee and was promised that it would be resolved and would come with and apology. That has yet to happen and it has been over a month.
The facility's are great and everyone else I have encountered has been extremely helpful and accommodating. It is a bit pricy but well worth it seeing as how I work out 4-5 times a week.

My neighbor was able to get a 1 month free trial since he lived at the Arden apartments nearby, but I was not able to get the same deal. What gives? I live in the exact same apartments! The front office staff only gave me a 1 day pass. That just doesn't seem fair. The main reason why I'm giving a 2 star is because, I don't believe in changing prices and deals on people for no real reason. This is also why I won't be joining this gym. The price is also very expensive at $90 a month. There is also a sign up fee of $150-200. So the total is about $100 a month. If you exercise
