Services
Alchemy's origin dates back to 1990. Established as a manufacturing trade shop, Alchemy created custom designs, provided expert casting services, and performed various repairs for the jewelry industry. In 2005, Alchemy transformed to include a retail showroom-calling Downtown Portland's Pearl District home.
In our travels, we have discovered, sourced, and found inspiration for creating some of our now-favorite pieces. Aaron Furlong was born in California, the third generation in a family of established jewelers and diamond merchants tracing back to 1940. By the time he was 21, Aaron had earned both a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis.
Alex Sepkus is a living legend to jewelry makers and collectors of fine art. Clients often refer to Gustav Klimt or M.C. Escher while enjoying Alex Sepkus jewelry-- A high compliment and a true sign of excellence. Alex Sepkus earned a graduate degree in industrial design from Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania.
Toronto-born artist Anne Sportun began making jewelry as a teenager. She deferred her archeological studies to enroll in a jewelry arts program where she acquired her formal goldsmithing skills. Anne founded her brand with the opening of her first atelier in the late 1980's. This was the beginning of a prolific career which continues to evolve.

I was walking around and yelped a jewelry place, this happened to be open and i called.
Appointments required but the man that answered said I could come in, since it was in between appointments.
Walked on over, took my ring and we took a look under the scope. i knew that my band needed a little fixing and was quoted about the same price he gave me.
The difference was that I was actually able to see what needed to be fixed.
$300 later my band is fixed and pretttty once again, They even cleaned my engagement ring when i came to pick it up.

Last year I broke a prong and lost a diamond on my wedding ring. I chose Alchemy because I thought they looked trustworthy and professional. I went in not knowing what to expect. My ring isn't the highest quality or most expensive which doesn't matter to me but it matters to some people. So, I was really anxious to bring it in. I was happily surprised because the gentleman that helped me was kind, professional and non-judgemental. They replaced the diamond and retipped the prongs for a reasonable price. I told them that my fiancé had purchased the ring through an online retailer -- so instead of just taking my ring in right away, they told me that I should check to see if it would go against my warranty if they went and resized it for me. Of course, I took their advice and went home to do some research with my fiancé before going back to get anything done to it. After reading through everything, we found that it would in fact void our warranty, but we didn't care as

Do not pass this "gem" by. Alchemy is more like s museum where appreciative ( and careful) eyes are encouraged to touch. More than that, the jeweler is approachable. I learned more about New York jewelry designers in 20 minutes within the beautiful walls of this corner shop, than my many years as a native New Yorker. There are affordable designs and some really special museum quality pieces that will put a gleam in your eye. Worth the detour!

This place has some very unique one of a kind pieces. Each is a rare work of art. The store itself is amazing because there is a little nook where you can watch the artists work on Jewelry creations. They also always have fresh flower bouquets that smell and look amazing. They have flower photography that enhance the shopping experience. I have been here a couple times for first Thursday and they are always so gracious in showing me new pieces and giving me a glass of wine or some fresh fruit or cheese. I love the elegance and flair of this Jewelry store and their designers are top notch.

Alchemy is the only place in Portland where I know experts are handcrafting jewelry. You can actually see their workshop from the showroom. They are the real deal.

We had visited Alchemy a couple of times as we live in the neighborhood and when my fiancé proposed he suggested we have them make a custom ring as I had an idea (and some stones we wanted to use) of what I wanted. Sanders and the team there were very helpful and immediately set up some time with David, the owner, goldsmith, and metallurgist. Having seem some pictures of the sort of thing I liked he quickly sketched out what I wanted and then (amazingly quickly) did a CAD rendering on the computer so I could get a very realistic view of the design. Right before my wedding I loss a small diamond on my ring. My original jeweler is out of town and I had no time to go and have it fixed. I had my mother run to Alchemy with my ring. While she waited they replaced the missing diamond, cleaned my ring, check all my other diamond settings, cleaned my mother's ring and check her settings in minutes... And it was all complimentary! They were so nice, understanding, and helpful. My ring is now ready for my wedding and photos. Thank you David.

I never leave bad reviews or reviews in general, but we were treated so unprofessionally that it seems necessary. Sander spoke to us like second rate citizens. He insulted my engagement ring in front of my fiance a few times while we were there for a resizing of my wedding band. It was completely unnecessary and his behavior was pretentious. We left and went straight to another well known jeweler in the area who treated us with respect, kindness and class. Although the jewelry pieces at Alchemy are unique and beautiful, the staff is not.

Stumbled upon Alchemy while my now husband and I were looking for my engagement ring. I was very happy with the selection. Sander and the other people working were amazing to work with. So helpful, not pushy, gave me a wide variety of rings to try on since I didn't have an exact ring I was looking for.
I found my ring that day and I absolutely love it. Even better was the main ring and one of the two bands were my size! I was able to take two of them home with me, and wait for the third to come which only took a week or two. Also ended up getting my husband's ring here as well.

This place rocks. No pun. Laura + Sander both took extra time with me to discuss my piece, educate me on its materials, and recommended how I could best care for it. Their space is beautiful, they're locally owned, they're knowledgeable and kind. This was an excellent, uplifting experience beyond my expectation.

After exploring multiple jewelry stores across Portland and Seattle, my then-girlfriend, now-fiancé, and I ended our engagement ring search at Alchemy. While the store would receive high reviews based on that fact alone, the staff at Alchemy also adds in unique offerings and excellent customer service for a five star experience. Sander was informative and friendly without being pushy - in addition to offering a great pizza restaurant suggestion! While we found the perfect Anne Sportun vintage engagement ring at Alchemy, the selection was so amazing that we were also able to find a matching wedding

My fiancé and I visited Alchemy on a search for wedding bands. While we didn't end up purchasing our rings from Alchemy, the service we received from Sander was superb. In the end, the price range was above our budget, but if you are able to spend a little more on fine jewellery, you'll find unique pieces and great service at Alchemy!

My fiancé told me how helpful the staff was and how easy they made the the ring buying process for him so it didn't take much convincing when he suggested we go back to look at wedding bands. Well, we also had to get the ring sized down a bit and I can't imagine going anywhere else for our bands after my own experience with the staff. Not only did we get the ring sized correctly and extremely quickly, but the staff took the time to chat with us about our engagement story and help us try on wedding bands. I

I never thought a place this nice and fancy would ever be so unpretentious. We came in to have our wedding rings made and they were so knowledgable and helpful. They worked well within our limited budget too which was another surprise. They completed our custom orders lightning quick and the service is top notch. I honestly don't see why we would go anywhere else as long as I live in or near portland. Beautiful showroom with awesome selection of designer pieces. I recently discovered Alchemy when I was trying to get my engagement ring sized. Due to the pave set diamonds on my band, most jewelers I went to did not want to touch it for fear of losening the diamonds. David was willing to size it as well as go in and add any additional metal to ensure that the diamonds were set tight and I would not have any problems with loosing them! Sander was wonderful to work with as well. I also had them appraise the ring, for insurance reasons, while it was there. They quoted me 10 days to have both services done and it was complete in 3!
