Jan started working at Nielsen's Jewelers with her dad, John Nielsen, at the age of 15. After attending Western Oregon University, she returned to work at the store with her father. She studied diamonds and gemstones through the Gemology Institute of America. Today, she works together with her daughter, Sara Winter, to provide customers with the highest quality merchandise and excellent service.
She truly enjoys providing beautiful fine jewelry to compliment individual style, to enrich important celebrations and to preserve as cherished heirlooms for generations. Jan not only goes above and beyond for her customers, but she's also committed to supporting the community by donating to Donate Life NW, Nordic Northwest and Edison High School every year.

I have been working with Jan since April, replacing some of the jewelry recently stolen from my mother’s estate. Jan has been very kind and sympathetic about losing both my mother and her jewelry. I have had a lot of little jobs sizing jewelry, replacing batteries, etc., but Jan treated each job as if she was earning a huge commission. She helped me pick out different stones and settings for other pieces, and is very smart, competent and professional.
Everything about this jewelry business is top rate, including impeccable service, jewelry pieces, and employees. I will never go anywhere else

I had a watch battery I was trying to change myself but kept running into issues not having a small enough (and sharp enough, turns out) screwdriver. I took the watch plus new battery in. They helped me figure it out, watched me lose and subsequently find the little damn screw holding the battery in place, installed the new battery for me and then sent me on my way without accepting my offer of payment for the handholding. That's true customer service!

Nielsen's Jewelers is great! The clasp gave out on one of my favorite watches.They were able to get me the right information to order a new band. I was able to get the only one online (blessed lol). Jan did such a great job replaced the custom band, adjusted for a perfect fit for my wrist, and saved one of my classics! Also has extensive knowledge about diamonds and how to get the shine you like. They can also make you your own tailored jewelry and place diamonds for you. Pleasant experience and definetly recommend.

This is NOT a watch shop (regardless of the many watch services listed on their website). Took a quartz Fossil watch in for a battery change - shop owner broke the chronograph mechanism replacing the battery. Was told to wait a week while they try to 'repair' things. They returned the watch broken and STILL charged for the battery. Now I must wait for the watch to be serviced by Fossil (repair of the broken chronograph). Would not recommend this shop. Was a waste of time. Shop owner's knowledge of timepieces is VERY limited. There are many other watch retailers and servicers in the Portland area

Not enough good things can be said about Nielsen's Jewelers! When you first walk in the door it's like you are apart of the family of this family owned buisness. The jewelry they display is not like all those other jewelry stores in the mall or shopping center. If you want something that is not like everybody elses, you need to go to Nielsen's. You can tell they take pride in what they sell and are very knowledgeable of the product, as well. I have bought several pieces from them over the years for myself and other famliy memebers as gifts. Jan and Sara are very honest, fun and enjoyable to work
