Ben Moses has been designing Jewelry since the 1950's. He first started as an Optometrist in his hometown of Braila, Romania, after surviving WWII. As he spent time handcrafting eyeglasses, he very soon became drawn to Fine Jewelry and enhancing people's eyesight and style simultaneously. He was the sole Jewelry Designer and Optometrist of his town in those years.
Ben brought his notable artistry to NYC, when he immigrated in the late 1960's with the desire for greater opportunities. Having very little space in his suitcase, he still managed to carry a portion of his curated Jewelry collection with him and opened shop on 47th Street. His son Ray eventually joined him in the Diamond District, making it a duo, family affair.

Services
From the moment I walked in, they treated me like a valued customer and a member of their family. Ray (Ben's son) understood not only how important it was for me to find the right ring but also how special this time of my life is. He helped me find the perfect ring and my fiance couldn't love it more.

Ray gave me the old switch-a-roo. Showed me an awesome cut, color, clarity (no inclusions with 10x loupe) (yellow-brown), 1.16 carat diamond. For $900 cash with tax, and ring setting. Took the deal and next day came back to pay and get a receipt.
Low and behold, diamond was under a carat, had a chip in the diamond (in the cut), and big fat inclusion (Black and White) with the naked eye.
When I confronted Ray that this was not the diamond he showed me yesterday, he blamed it on another jewerler. The jewerler 'chipped' the diamond, they mess with the color, etc... Come on, diamond

I worked with Ben's son Ray, who I believe effectively runs the shop now. Ray is such a great dude. Really tries to understand what it is you're looking for. Patient with you as you try to figure it out yourself! I made a custom design engagement ring for my now fiancee and it came out great--she loves it! I brought in photos, sketches, etc...we were able to come up with something that was truly unique. Felt really good to make something special that my fiancee can now say no one else in the world has. I highly recommend working with Ray.

Ben's son Ray helped my husband and me today and he couldn't have been more helpful or delightful. He's a gentle, good spirited man who genuinely wants to help you find what's right for you. No pressure and no bull. Shopping was fun!
He had a tray of lovely Rose Gold Retro rings which is what we were looking for as a Wedding Vows Renewal Ring for me. There was one ring that I really loved but it was a bit too small. He took the time to try and "stretch" it for me, without any commitment on my part. When he returned it fit perfectly. The price was reasonable and

Six years down the road, we went to Ben & Ray again for an anniversary upgrade of my diamond! I loved my old one very much, but it was time for something new. They were both so amazing as usual, and they remembered us well even after all that time - it felt more like visiting old friends than a business transaction! Ray had some stones ready for us to see, and picked up on what we were looking for immediately (we had already been in touch by email before flying into NYC from Texas specifically to see them - yes, they are that amazing!). While we couldn't commit 100% to a specific stone

My fiancé and I had our custom wedding bands made here. We were very pleased with the service and the price. We had come up with our own concept for our rings and made a CAD model. We worked with Ray on our design. He was very honest and helpful. Within a week he had a plastic model to show us and a week later our platinum bands were ready. The bands were perfect exactly how we imagined. The quality was exceptional. Ben, Rays dad who started the business was the most delightful man sharing with us his stories of his many famous clients and sweet love stories of others who have come before us

I wanted to surprise my very practical wife with a refresh of her engagement ring. The diamond had been lose for years and she has not worn it in years out of fear of losing the diamond. I trolled around Yelp for some time and came across Ben Moses. I figured I would give the store a try based on the reviews. But at the end of the day, can you really trust something so important based on a Yelp review? All I can say is if I could give a 10 out of 5 I would! I could just see how passionate the family is about the business. Not only did I get excellent service, but I got some great stories from

Shopping the diamond district is as intimidating as it gets. I made a list of jewelers I had researched through yelp and other articles. After visiting all of them and educating myself I easily chose Ben Moses Jewelers. When you walk through the door you are met by Ray who like fresh air is not rude, he's honest and very no nonsense. I introduced my skeptical husband (of 25 years at that point) and we chose a beautiful eternity band of beautiful quality at a very fair price. That is the good news, the bad news...6 months later I lost it plus my original engagement ring. After many tears and

47th street was driving me crazy. Each store had essentially the same thing and finding something one of a kind was seeming more difficult by the day. Luckily I found Ben and Ray Moses.
As someone who went to at least 30+ stores I ca tell you without hesitation that their selection of rings are the most unique and beautiful. Each one I saw was like its own work of art and I went from not being able to find an engagement ring to not being sure which one to get.

I wish I found Ben Moses sooner. I've been getting my special pieces of jewelry from Ben for over 7 years and will never go to any other jeweler. Ben hand designed pieces of jewelry that I envisioned in my mind. I described what I wanted and Ben created a design and brought my piece to life. The pieces he has created for me are my most precious keepsakes. Plus both Ben and Ray are such a delight. I highly recommend Ben Moses to anyone looking for quality jewelry.

I came in a few years back looking for help. Ray at Ben Moses didn't have what I was looking for but directed me to someone else. He also gave me his business card which I kept. He was helpful and I wanted to keep the card in the event that I needed something in the future. Fast forward 2 years later, and sure enough...I did need another piece. This time Ben Moses was able to help me out. Thanks Ray!

I just left Ben Moses and purchased the most stunning bracelet that he hand created. He is an absolute artist in a caliber that you cannot find anywhere anymore. If you are looking for something unique and vintage I recommend you go there first! His son, Ray, works alongside him and is very helpful as well.

With my wedding just 2 days away Its been a long time coming to post this review. After a long search for my girlfriend's engagement ring, I happened to come across Ben Moses jewelry. Tucked right in the middle of the diamond district you could almost walk by it without noticing it...Don't! Ben and Ray are a father and son duo who put a lot of care and personality into their work and their customers. Ray worked with me to find the best diamond and my girlfriend was extremely happy with the design! Do not get overwhelmed with the amount of stores or brand names when looking for a ring

No-frills but excellent jeweler. We've gone to them for a number of things: a necklace, my wedding band, and a few repairs and resizings. The work they do is wonderful: we had a band that once had engravings on the side, but were faded from years of use. They restored all the engraving work, and it looks better than ever. Reasonably priced, as well. Ben and his son Ray know what they're doing, so it's worth a stop if you're looking for something.

There is a reason for the abundance of 5 stars for Ben and Ray Moses. I found their listing on Yelp. At first entry into the hallows of 47th street, I was overwhelmed with everyone on the street and then the other world market aspect of the shop location. The shop / store / booth is incredibly small, when you think of the riches of diamonds, but the display of a thousand different settings might make one feel overwhelmed. Then the firm handshake of Ray eases you with his enthusiasm for ring design and dedication to making a piece that is beyond expectation.

I went to Ben Moses in the June/July timeframe and worked with Ray, Ben's son, on selecting a diamond engagement for my now fiancé. Both Ray and Ben were very professional and courteous as they walked me through the diamond selection process. I felt very at ease in working with them, which to me is very important. When I finally selected the diamond with which I proposed to my girlfriend, I knew I had made the right choice. The diamonds they carry are of the highest quality and the means by which they work with their customers is first class. We'll for sure be going back to show them

My soon-to-be fiancé and I happened to stop at the Moses counter. We met with Ray Moses, long-time jeweler and son of Ben Moses, a well known jewelry designer and diamond expert. Ray was wonderful! He provided us with the most beautiful diamond in a gorgeous setting that fits my finger perfectly and makes me feel like a princess. Ray was also personally sweet, charming and interested in our story: two 60+ first timers picking out a ring. We strongly recommend a trip to the Moses family if you are looking for something beautiful, of the highest quality, and suitable for your personality. And if

Ben and his son, Ray, made my engagement ring shopping experience - and our wedding band shopping - an absolute pleasure.
The custom design and engraving work you'll find here is extremely beautiful, warm, personal, and above all, personable. It's really a refreshing throwback to good old-fashioned service and quality of work, consistent with an artisan as opposed to the commoditization of the market online and in big shops.
Walk by all the hawkers and scam artists in the Diamond District and visit this incredible father/son team. You won't regret it.

Realistically only happy brides and grooms would be reviewing a jeweler. I am fortunate enough to be engaged and madly in love with my ring. I knew I wanted an antique style ring, and I originally wanted an actual antique. We went to Israel Rose, they had a wonderful selection, but once I started doing my research I knew for certain that I would not be happy with a J color diamond when I was out having cocktails with my girlfriend who had a much whiter diamond from Tiffany's. We went to Ben next because he had done my co-worker's wedding bands and they were both original and beautiful

When my then-girlfriend and I talked about getting serious, we went into the Diamond District on a Saturday to look around and see what we liked in terms of ring designs. We felt prepared to encounter massively pushy sales types, we were earnest in that we would say "No, thank you, we're just looking." We had done research on grading diamonds and gold, and we felt like we knew what we were doing as savvy, tough Jersey people shopping in the Diamond District.
We kinda overlooked the fact that since 90% of the Diamond District is run or operated by observant Orthodox and Hasids
