We're located in historic Bankers hill, just north of downtown, right next to beautiful Balboa Park. I work right down the street from the Market Place & love their salads, tuna melt sandwich, & the breakfast burrito's are all delicious! Very friendly staff. Always my 1st choice when I do not have time to pack a lunch.
Even during their lunch rush, the staff makes your food FAST and they've never messed up my order. The staff is efficient and friendly. If you're in the area and want a sandwich, this is the place to go! All the food that i've tried there is amazing. It's a wonderful family owned place that has everything you could ever want from healthy and organic to a bag of chips and case of beer.

So disappointing to watch this place deteriorate, but I can no longer deny that is what has happened over the last year or so. When I lived just a few blocks away, i was a 10-year customer. Now that I live a mile or so north, my visits are less frequent, but that made the drop in quality and service all the more glaring.
Not sure if thet have changed suppliers or if they now purchase cheaper brands, but there is a flavor monotony to their sandwiches now that is in such contrast to the deep and layered profile that was such a distinct hallmark of their previous product.
Their pizza also suffers

I'm by myself on vacation and don't want to spend a bundle. This place has AWESOME sandwiches fresh when ordered, pizzas and grab go salads plus, random snacks like a small grocery store. I recommend the New Yorker, which is one of their specialty sandwiches, but they are all pretty tasty.

Going to miss living up the street from this place. If I ever had trouble deciding what to eat this was the spot. The sandwiches are always very good, freshly prepared, and piled high with delicious meat and toppings.
I love the turkey club, they always have great tomatoes (which is impressive) and the bacon is a little soft and not charred to a crisp so you get really good flavor out of it. And of course tons of turkey Mayo and cheese

The Marketplace is a good spot for sandwiches and is conveniently located just outside of Balboa Park. I highly recommend you check them out if you're planning a picnic there.
They have a huge menu of both cold and hot sandwiches, so anyone would be able to find something they'd like. Everyone is super friendly and the service is fast and efficient, even with a steady amount of people ordering.

I absolutely love this place. Seriously some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. They also have an amazing deli menu with a great selection of essentials you expect from a marketplace. Hands down worth going out of the way to hit up this place for anything you need. This place usually serves up great sandwiches, but today i instead of a turkey on rye, I got a disgusting mayonnaise mess. My sandwich had about 6 servings of mayonnaise and mustard on BOTH slices of bread. I tried salvaging it by scooping off the globs of mayonnaise and mustard, but the bread was already soggy and the turkey would slide out of the sandwich with every bite. I just threw the entire thing away.

This is 100% just like a deli you will find on the east coast. They have everything a normal deli provides. Their sandwiches are my go to favorites. Go for the Benny and add bacon. The pizza is on point as well. The avocado toast is awesome and affordable as well. They are very quick and hassle free with their service. I'm a regular and come here multiple times a week. I buy food for my team here regularly as well. This place never disappoints.

This place is amazing! My uncle showed it to me over a decade ago and I've been going here for lunch whenever I'm in the area. Food is unbelievable and the service is great! Whether it's packed or not I never wait more than 5 minutes for my order. My favs are the Californian sandwich on sourdough toasted, the sausage pizza, or the clam chowder! I'd give em ten stars if I could!🤙👌🤟👍

What can I say? Marketplace has done it again. This is a great one-stop shop for your next picnic at Balboa park. Grab a couple of sandwiches, burgers, or pizza, get some chips, secure some cold bevvys, and be on your way. You can even call in your order ahead of time to make it a quick pick-up. If you're going for a sandwich, I highly recommend the pastrami, The Beefeater, Tex's special, or The Bobbie. Burgers are awesome and I love the BBQ chicken pizza. Everything is delicious so you really can't go wrong.

A market store with the most delicious and affordable salads. Yummy. This place can get busy, but they are constantly stocking up. The chicken salad is delicious and light. I've tried almost all their salads. My favorites are the Balsamic Chicken and the Cobb. But how can I pick a favorite? Lol...they have parking outside and it's easy to find on Fifth. I need to try other stuff! I have gone three times in a week!

This is the best sandwich shop in San Diego by far. Very lucky to live so close. I go here 1-2 times every week and it's consistently amazing. I've gotten 5 or 6 different sandwiches and they've all been incredibly good. For the price, you won't find better. Excellent variety, fresh ingredients and FAST service. Also the acai bowls are top notch.

Just a great place and well ran at that. Swung by to get a few sandwiches to enjoy in Balboa Park on a beautiful morning and the place was filling up fast. The deli was well staffed and churning out orders at an impressive rate. The store has a great selection of most anything one would want to drink and a huge choice of chips and such to compliment their most excellent sandwiches. No one site seating but with the park a block away it works. Prices are cheap for the neighborhood given the fact that I spent $8.25 the day before for a pint of run of the mill IPA and that arrived in a cheater

This looks like any of 50 similar convenience / delis in SD but actually the sandwiches/deli here are extra great. It's east coast style sandwiches - no So Cal sloppy, cheapie, bready, saucey garbage - the meat and prep are top notch and the prices are good. I prefer the hot ones - Ruebens and New Yorker (pictured) and the like

Probably my favorite deli/market in San Diego. The deli has a wide variety of food, I suggest trying the sandwiches. They have tons of other stuff too, from snacks, to full meals, pretty much everything but straight up groceries. They have a good selection of beer and wine as well. The employees are all super friendly and helpful.
It can get pretty busy around noon, your best bet is to go between 11-11:45 or after 12:45ish to avoid the rush.

I ordered the hot torpedo which has mortadela,provolone, peppercini w,/the works mayo,lettuce etc. You also get a nice crunchy pickle. SO GOOD

Convenient neighborhood grocery store in Bankers Hill. This is larger than a corner market. They have all the must-haves you might need between your shopping trips to a larger chain. What is really the treat here though is the Deli-- fresh sandwiches, salads, sushi, pizza, and acai bowls. The food is delicious and the staff are really nice. I recommend placing your deli order, giving the shop a peruse, and then checking out once your take-a-way food is ready. This is one block from Balboa Park, so it's nice to enjoy your meal in the park afterward. There is excellent parking as well. Please

Liked the family run feel. Sandwich was made to order and was huge!
All ingredients were fresh and tasty. Meat portions were large and filling.
I added potatoe salad to my order. There were many good options available
I highly recommend this place; especially if you are going on a picnic!

The perfect place for a snack or picnic shopping for your visit to balboa park! It has it all and at good prices. From cold salads to warm sandwiches, deli, salty and sweet snacks, bubbly drinks and alcohol, it really has it all. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Balboa park. Not much place to sit outside.
