North Portland Martial Arts & Movement
Mo Duk Pai ("martial ethics method") is a comprehensive martial art that emphasizes self-defense with ethical behavior. The Mo Duk Pai system was founded in 1983 by Professor Fred King. Mo Duk Pai draws from Professor King's experiences in traditional Kung Fu, Boxing, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Arnis and other martial disciplines.

It has evolved into the well-rounded fighting style we study at NEPMA today. Instructor: Sifu Sean Kelly is a second degree Black Belt in Mo Duk Pai. He trained under Sifu Kyle Alexander, formerly of The Academy of Kung Fu (now Southeast Portland Martial Arts). Sifu Kelly is also the owner of Kung Fu Outreach, a program that helps kids learn practical life skills through the training of Kung Fu.
Services
Training at Northeast Portland Martial Arts focuses on a physical workout rooted in traditional martial arts. Students explore meditation, martial arts philosophy and history, holistic health, and spiritual growth. Each student progresses through a series of documented techniques, which enable creativity and improvisation in a variety of tournament or street situations.

This school is now located at NE Albina and Alberta. Our son has been attending an afternoon class during the summer, and we are thrilled. Michael clearly loves what he does and is excellent with communicating with our son, and with us. This has been a great experience, and we are grateful to be here! Highly recommend!
Update: our oldest son has been attending for two years and our younger son for 9 months. Michael was a lifeline for me through covid... Our boys thrived with his classes and I learn alot watching him interact with them. I'm thankful every day to be apart of this school. It's been

My son has taken kung-fu classes at this school for over two years. The owner and other teachers are caring and knowledgeable. This martial arts studio is a hidden gem that is off to a great start.

Sifu Sean Kelly and Michael Wall have created a wonderfully inviting environment in which to learn the ethical side of martial arts. It is readily apparent that both instructors care deeply about their students’ physical, mental, and a spiritual growth. Age, conditioning, experience, and ability are never issues. The instructors meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be. I can recommend the school to people who are new to martial arts, students who have trained in other styles, and those of you who just need to get your wiggles out.

Mo Duk Pai is awesome! I have trained at North Portland Martial Arts and Movement (formerly Northeast Portland Martial Arts) for about six years now and my kids trained here for about three years. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of the training my family and I have received from Sifu Sean Kelly and Michael Wall: they provide a great mix of martial arts fundamentals along with practical application. Additionally, the Mo Duk Pai community in the Portland area is a fantastic group of skilled martial artists that share their experience with all students. With three schools in Portland

I've trained at Northeast Portland Martial Arts when it was located on Dekum, and now is in a new, improved location @ N Alberta. Michael has expanded on the schedule and offerings and now there are more black belts leading sparring, fitness and Jiu-Jitsu classes! The kid's program is well-rounded too. Glad to be a part of this community and super recommend to all!

I've been studying martial arts with Sifu Sean Kelly and Michael Wall for 3 years now. Through them I've been introduced to our style, Mo Duk Pai, and all the great people and teachers in our system. These are the most amazing, trustworthy, toughest, and kind people I've ever met. They push you hard to be the best version of yourself possible. And yes, fighting is fun.
In Mo Duk Pai you learn standup fighting, kickboxing, elements of Muay Thai & Systema, BJJ, point sparring, "street" sparring, take downs, forms, qi gong. It's all synthesized into a well-rounded and integrated whole. And it's always

Attending martial arts classes has been a great experience for my daughter. She in engaged, gaining confidence, and feels like she belongs to a greater community. Having the option of several class times during the week has been very helpful for our busy family.

Our children are in the 4-5 class and the Kids (6+) class. Micheal Wall is an amazing instructor. He fills the class with games and keeps the kids moving the whole hour. The schedule has so many offerings, making it easy to balance after school activities. After touring several studios, it was so nice to enter the studio and feel a real sense of community. There was no hard sell, no push to sign up right away or purchase uniforms. Micheal wants to make sure the classes are a good fit for your child.

I had a chance to roll with coach Michael this evening and loved his spirit and enthusiasm for his students and martial arts as a whole. It can be hard to find a place to train as a female martial artist that isn't filled with giant dudes trying to prove something but Michael does a great job cultivating a community centered on respect and hard work. Mellow gym, knowledgeable coaches, nice facilities.
