Self-defense isn't just about punching and kicking through deadly situations. It has more to do with being confident, alert, and aware in all kinds of situations and surroundings. No one should ever become a target or victim in life, though unfortunately for most of us, it is almost inevitable to occur in some form at some point.
This is lesson 1 for our Beginner Leadership students book What to Say When you Talk to Yourself. This is going over why what we say to ourselves is so important. This is a talk between Sifu Paul Gruschow and his younger kung fu brother Sifu Andre Johnson. They are discussing character in martial arts specifically Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu.

My grandson been going to Kungfu for about 3 months now, he loves it and he's showing respect to himself and others. My grandson is learning so much not to mention he's getting in shape especially after COVID 19. I'm 65 years old on a fixed income, I don't have alot of money but I find the money some how to keep my grandson doing positive things and growing. I enjoy watching my grandson change, I never miss a meeting but if I do we can always do virtual meetings. It's so worth the money and time we put in. If you want your child to do something positive instead of playing those silly games put

Our son has a developmental disability and he was not only accepted into the program but is welcomed by staff and students. This has given him a good outlet for his energy and also given him a sense of pride . Thanks for all you do!!!

Sifu Paul is amazing and his values and willingness to help the kids get to where they need to be is just incredible. He is fair and always will to go above and beyond to give support. You are not just a dollar to him and his school. This is important. He doesn’t sit by and let you run through the program just because you keep the money coming. If you are not quality and not willing to put the work in and change and show the character needed to become a Kung Fu master he will let you know that you don’t belong there. I recommend this school and would give him, his school and instructors more

Our son has been attending this academy for years and we could not be happier with the progress he has made. Not only learning martial arts skills but also the character development. It carries on outside of the academy as we get countless notes from school praising what a great student he is and how helpful he is.

I and my sons have been students for over a year. Staff was welcoming, encouraging and kind right from the beginning. Good flexible schedules and quality instruction. In person classes are great, and the virtual classes still have good instruction and content. Passionate Sifu. Everyone here wants you to succeed and welcomes you as a brother or sister. Good confidence and character building curriculum. Weapons training is one of my favorites. If you're struggling to find a program that you can continue to participate and progress through, even through a lockdown, or something that you can do as

My son has had a great experience at Rochester Kung Fu. Having some Martial Arts background myself and wanting a quality experience for my son I searched many places. Unfortunately, the quality around many schools are poor and centered around buying your way to a black belt. In the end you have a black belt without the skill. You have to EARN your belt and because of that my son earns a real sense of pride. That is more valuable then any false sense of security that a bought belt would provide. The instructors here know what they are doing and encourage students all the way. They believe that they

I have had my son in the ninja program for almost a year and it has helped him tremendously. It has taught him respect, discipline and a ton of other great lessons. It has been so good for him that we also enrolled our daughter when she was old enough to join. I would highly suggest the ninja program to anyone. It is a great program and sets your child up for an amazing future with all the character building it does. We are definitely in it for the long run.

My son is autistic and I was nervous to try an activity that requires so much focus and patience. We decided to try Rochester Kung Fu and Fitness because the staff seemed kind, yet firm. It has been awesome. I have seen improvements in his attention and his ability to sit still for longer. His strength has improved and I am proud to have him in this program. I plan on keeping my son in this program as long as possible. Kung Fu is a great foundation for any child but especially children on the autism spectrum.
