I started First Step Athletics because I love working with people and helping them to become healthy, happy, active individuals. I am a certified personal trainer through the AFPA with over 18 years of experience in triathlon, running, and even motocross racing. The coaches at First Step Athletics believe everyone has the ability to reach their fitness goals, regardless of age, weight, or prior fitness-experience.
Fitness needs to be Fun and our 8 Week Group Bootcamp program offers you the ability to tone up, lose weight, gain strength, increase stamina and feel great. Capping our classes to a maximum of 15 members, our Drill Sergeants, ahem we mean the FSA Coaches, are able to give everyone direct attention and structured guidance.
At First Step Athletics we believe every athlete is unique and therefore every training plan should be unique, as well. We create custom training plans for 5K, 10K, 1/2 & full marathons, sprint, olympic, and Ironman distance triathlons. If you've found a race, we can create a training program for it!
Is there a Beachbody program like Insanity or P90X that you've always wanted to try but have been too intimated by Shaun T.'s abs or Tony Horton's face to give it a shot?. Challenge groups complete a Beachbody program together, meet once a week at the FSA studio to do their workout, and provide endless support and encouragement.
Throughout the year First Step Athletics team members participate and train for a wide variety of events. Not only are these events fun but they create a goal to work towards, something we at FSA believe is crucial for fitness success! For those interested in going to these events we help organize the trip and assist in event preparation and race advice.

I have been attending boot camp classes at FSA for about 6 weeks now and I have had amazing results! Karen and the other coaches are so supportive and personable. They make each class fun and you can tell they truly care about you. Im more confident, and mentally/physically stronger than I have been in a long time. Thank you FSA!

First Step Athletics is a Vista gem. I am so glad I found the First Step Athletics's boot camp. With a group of attendees of different levels of fitness, our leader Karen, created interesting, different and even fun workouts which she tailored to each of our abilities. There program gave me the kick-start I needed. Karen and Glen (her super nice husband) are amazing. They really care and are there to help you become strong and healthy in a supportive, happy, no judgement environment. The boot camp is prefect for everyone.

I was also so lucky and glad to have caught the Oceanside 70.3 course preview! Karen did an awesome job on organizing this event, which was free to TCSD members. It was very helpful to have Gina Thomas, the race director there, to explain the course and transitions first-hand to us. I also got the chance to speak to Karen afterwards, and she gave me some very helpful information on her business and her training programs. And I was also impressed that she and her husband ride dirtbikes. Hope to work again with Karen soon!

This review is basically a "Thank You" to the First Step Athletics team for setting up a FREE preview for a few dozen or so lucky triathletes competing in the Oceanside 70.3 Ironman. Karen set up: 1) Race director to come and speak to our group, giving us a rundown of important aspects of the race 2) Set up volunteers to watch and transport our valuables between transition points 3) Setup "course logistics" for this event 4) Light refreshments and food
They did a great job putting this event together and I really appreciated their generosity, support, and enthusiasm for

I'm training for my very first half Ironman race. I'm keeping it local so I'm doing Oceanside 70.3. I've done sprints and Olympic distance races but nothing like the magnitude of a half Ironman. First thing I did was join the the Triathlon Club of San Diego. TCSD is a great club and they have provided tremendous information on how to train and prepare for triathlons.
One day I was reading through the TCSD mailing list and Karen from First Step Athletics advertised a FREE Oceanside 70.3 preview clinic. I jumped all over that and I signed up as soon as possible since there
