Sunnyside Preschool & Kindergarten is an Award-Winning private school established in 1990 to provide high quality early childhood education for children in a fun, safe environment. Services
Sunnyside Preschool will equip children with a life-long love of learning, a positive attitude towards new discoveries, and a willingness to take risks. We encourage all children to play, interact, and investigate through a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that provide the practice of new skills in multiple ways.
An emergent and thematic based curriculum will engage children in learning skills through a variety of methods while addressing district and state standards. Meaningful connections and multi-sensory experiences will occur in whole group, small group, one-on-one, and individual learning centers. The solid skills in reading, writing, and math will be taught with a variety of tools and materials to meet the needs and levels of each learner.
Sunnyside Preschool is proud to collaborate with Lake Stevens Fire District #8, Lake Stevens Police Department and other Health and Safety Organizations to offer a Safety Education Program throughout the school year.
Sunnyside's owner, Cindy Petosa-Brengman and the late Robert Marshall of Lake Stevens Fire received from the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) the prestigious Ralph H. Jensen Partners in Public Education Award in 2002 for implementing the program into the Lake Stevens Preschools and School District that resulted in lives saved and injuries prevented.This education will be continued in the Lake Stevens School District.

Preschoolers are eager to learn, exploring the classroom environment with curiosity and purpose. Sunnyside's approach to learning includes an emergent and project based curriculum that integrates the philosophies of The Creative Curriculum, Montessori, High Scope and Gardeners Multiple Intelligences.
Our Reading Enrichment Program promotes emergent and early reading skills to help instill the confidence and appreciation for reading. Our approach includes cultivating story telling with personal narratives using the David Matteson Literacy Program, exposure to Dolch Sight Words through weekly art projects, center based activities, interactive whole group reading and reinforcement of the Emergent Reader High-Five.
