The main risk to safety in modern society is injury due to accidents or falls. Martial arts training improves awareness, balance, safe falling and reflexes to reduce these risks. Relaxation combined with exercise in Tai Chi, Yoga and Aikido can turn back the clock of aging. Research supports that movement without stress has greater effect on health.
The risks of deadly assault are quite low in our society. But martial arts training prepares first by teaching how to avoid the conflict and then use techniques if needed. Our mission is to promote peace in the midst of action through Aikido as a traditional Japanese Martial Art as well as similar disciplines such as Tai Chi & Yoga.

Before reading our lineage, understand the general purpose: Lineage is a time tested method to insure quality control in instruction. You start with one of the great martial artists of all time. That highly realized practitioner certifies his students to go out and teach. The knowledge is passed from one generation to another with teachers standing behind the instruction given by their students.
We use several venues and training methods to meet the diverse needs of the people interested in our programs. If you have any questions on the right approach for you, please contact us. Martial arts training is a way of life. It is not merely exercise, but is designed to make you a happier, healthier human being and transform your world in a positive direction.
The Tai Chi classes help with balance, coordination, and perseverance. Steve, who teaches Tai Chi, also has extensive experience in the martial arts. He adds additional insights to Tai Chi by relating the movements to their martial arts origins. The Tai Chi is further enhanced by occasional field trips to meet others studying the Master Yu Tai Chi tradition.
New York "Still Mind" Aiki Shuren Dojo is a affiliated with Iwama Takemusu Aikikai, a member of Aikikai World Headquarters in Japan. Our lineage meticulously preserves the founder's teaching methods and style as it comes through Morihiro Saito Sensei, one of his two top students with the rare honor to take over the founder's dojo.
Seiichi Sugano, a direct student of the founder of Aikido, once explained that when the founder was alive, no one talked about different styles of Aikido. They simply identified Aikido with Morehei Ueshiba and that was all. However, since his passing in 1969, a fair number of his first generation students took up a different path.

I’m in my eighth year of training, as is my son...and my daughter is going on her fifth year. We have all grown immeasurably from our practice of Aikido at Still Mind. I have made life long friends, here and abroad, have

It would not be an overstatement to say that learning Aikido has changed my life. I started in Jan of 2006, and am still going strong. This is an excellent place to train. The instructor is very knowledgeable, skilled, and patient. The students are welcoming. The classes are always fun, challenging, and interesting. Since moving into the beautiful new space in White Plains, opportunities to cross train with kung fu and tai chi are available in the same facility. Students are encouraged to study the art from many different vantage points---with other Shihan, at seminars, and even by studying other
