This restaurant is quite a ways from where I live, but I agreed to meet an internet date closer to where she lived. I always try to go out of my my way to convenience my date, but my more selfish goal is to go to a restaurant that I wouldn't normally go to, such was the case with Taste. It was early evening and the space looked like a paining, all lit up with warm light. I expected a good wine list as this was at the gateway of the Amador County wine region and was not disappointed. The restaurant has 2 sittings, one for the bar menu and the other for the prix fixe dinner menu. I ordered wine

We stumbled upon this place when spontaneously staying at the Rest Hotel a few doors down. They absolutely know what they are doing. If you like high-end food go here. It is expensive, and popular (plan on either making a reservation or getting there at opening.) But the bar menu is totally reasonable. Filet mignon (not usually my favorite) was incredibly well done (I mean it was medium-rare but done very well if that makes sense.) And everything from the bread to the fries to the cocktail was likewise just really, really good. Nice people too.

Tucked into the tiny town of Plymouth on main street is Taste. Most people hit the roundabout in town and go in the opposite direction towards the hills are wineries, but if you go into the picturesque historic Plymouth you will find a true gem. A small quaint warm and cozy restaurant with fabulous staff and servers was the perfect place for our anniversary dinner.

Excellent. Plain and simple. We've driven here twice (in a month) even though it takes us 90 minutes to get here. We've had the mushroom cigars (our waitress said it's been on the menu since the beginning), the Mushroom Consume, the Artichoke & Kale salad, Filet Mignon, Pork, the Duck two ways, chocolate cake and pomegranate, and the fall beignets... all of the food was incredibly delicious! The service was excellent. We never wanted for anything. Can't more highly recommend this restaurant!

The food here was spot on perfect, however my advice to future me is go back for sure-but on an empty stomach. Service was nice albeit awkward having people reaching around me every course to clear or set up the next course. All in all a wonderful location to take a couple close friends and have a spectacular meal! We did bring in our own wine and that's another suggestion I have; keep your options open!

Prix Fixe menu selection was excellent. My wife chose the mushroom cigar and swordfish. I chose the beet salad and duck two ways. We shared bites and I must say the flavor of all 4 selections was wonderful. Dessert was small and tasty. Creme Brûlée and Beignets both very good. Service was great and restaurant setting was clean and comfortable. We’ll done all around.

My brother said, I’m buying, and taking you to this really nice place. Now, having grown up every summer in the Gold Country, a “nice place” just meant there was only one mounted deer on the walls.
Wow, was I in for a surprise. You could plop this place in Napa, or Union Square.
Very, very good. Excellent staff, bartending, wine selection and prix fixe menu.
If your more than one evening in Plymouth, do yourself a favor and visit Taste.

Had dinner here a week or so back. It was amazing. They do such a great job. The food is wonderful. The ambience is cozy. Servers (and the rest of the staff) are very knowledgeable. I had the mushroom cigars, and even though the locals probably don't get 'em, and I feel like a tourist, they taste great. The corn soup was insane. The lamb shanks were the best I have ever had. My wife had sea bass, which was so delicate. Just a great find. Certainly, the best in Amador County, and probably one of the best in Sacramento/Amador/El Dorado.

My dad and I have been wanting to visit Taste for quite some time. Finally able to go out to dinner again! We went for Father's Day. Unfortunately, we were somewhat disappointed. We tried a variety of items from the pre fixe menu (3 of us). For starters, we had the mushroom cigar, corn soup, and beef tartare. The cigar was OK. Good flavor and texture but rich. My dad felt it could have used a bit of freshness like a bit of dressed greens. The corn soup was delicious. My favorite thing we had. Just not that hot. The beef tartare was not good. Severe lack of seasoning. Chop not fine enough.

I really wanted to like Taste. This is one of those spots that I had bookmarked forever for a special occasion. On a birthday trip out to Amador county, we attempted to go to Taste for dinner but they were completely full and not accepting walk-ins. So we opted for take out.
The bummer with takeout was that this is not the type of food or restaurant presentation that travels well. It was a prefix menu with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert option. But by the time we got our food back to where we were staying it was cold, soggy, and underwhelming.

We picked up a couple of prix fixe meals and cocktails to go. Nearly everything was a hit - the asparagus soup, mushroom cigars, grilled filet, duck confit, and the old fashioned cocktail. The two main courses were superb. The chocolate dessert was pretty tasty, but not spectacular. The only misses were the strawberry-mint brulee, which just wasn't all that great, and the Pineapple Daquiri, which had a kind of off-putting creosote flavor.
This is probably a 4.5 star review, but I rounded up for their excellent staff. We'll be sure to come back when we're in the area.

Perfect in every way. The most delicious food I've ever TASTEd. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I visited for my 28th birthday, it was my first time in and I cannot wait to visit again. Everything was phenomenal but what made my night the most was that the entire staff signed a card for me. Just fabulous. 100% recommend this place. Thank you guys for making my birthday special. ❤

I did Valentine's day here with my wife and it was fantastic! 4 courses with wine/champagne pairings. I didn't get a photo of all dishes because I started eating before I remembered to grab my phone a few times, but it was great. Last but not least, if you get the waiter named Ruben, tell him Adam with the flowers sent you. He's the man! Went above and beyond the call of duty.

Their bread basket was simple but absolutely delicious (FYI this basket is not complimentary). The walnut and bleu cheese bread stood out and paired well with a glass of local chardonnay. I literally ate all the bread - it was that good!!! The kitchen was kind enough to split our dishes. Amador County is one of those places that you literally could blink and feel like you've passed it by... but don't!!
There are so many wonderful hidden treasures, and the restaurant called Taste is definitely that hidden gem that you don't want to miss out on.
