University Place

I loved here for only a few months, and when I had issues I contacted Porsha or TJ and they were quick on getting things fixed (about 48h). I did experience some issues with bugs but it is the south so understandably roaches tend to be a thing but they were quick on getting pest control once I requested it. The seals on the windows and the doors are old and that definitely contributes to the critters getting in. The neighbors are kind and thoughtful.
The place is on the older side so a bit run down but it is also why it is a lot cheaper.

Run for your life! Everything about UP sounded awesome, except smoking is permitted. Ewww. This property management is not following the ordinance smoke-free Health District that passed in 2020.

I implore you to not live here. This place is filthy and infested with pests. It is a widely expensive filthhole, preying on UAB undergrad students and UAB medical students. I moved in and was pleasantly greeted with apartment surfaces being sticky and light switches/handles covered in what could only be described as build-up from skin? On the first day, I found these two insect sticky pads in plain view (two photographs). Let's just say... In my time here, my cat has become a cockroach hunter par excellence. I've been here over a year and they are friendly, keep the place clean and it has 24hr security guard with gate access only. In the heart of UAB it's close to anything within walking distance. On site laundry is great as well! The apartment is perfect for someone with minimal things and just needs a small space to live, cook and relax after work or school.

Great place to live. I lived here for one year while doing temporary work at UAB. You can walk to anywhere on UAB (school) or in the medical center. Also very nearby is 5 points with good food and drinks. I had to drive very little while living here. Quick access to both I-65 and 280. It is secure with gates/access cards, overnight guard. The office and maintenance staff were very pleasant and helpful. They make an effort to have social events for residents; very nice. I just recently relocated from Atlanta, GA to Birmingham, AL for a new job at UAB Medical. Mrs. Porsha Johnson was very helpful with my apartment needs. I needed a larger apartment from a one bedroom to a two bedroom and she was tremendous with my apartment transition. Also, I experienced issues with the cable and internet installation in my apartment, which I needed for my new employee online orientation. I got discouraged and wanted to move back to Atlanta, GA., whereas, Porsha assisted the cable technician with turning on the outside cable box which finally provided cable and internet service

I haven’t moved yet but I wanted to give recognition to Porsha!! She did an excellent job at making me feel welcomed during my application process! She was friendly and really engaging. My application process was smooth and quick! I was able to get all of it done with her help! She’s so great! I can’t wait to move here in May!
Also, the apartments are nice! Most have hardwood floors and they are really close to campus! This is a great place to live if you’re moving off campus!

This is easily the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on rent. If you want to live in a place that hasn't been cleaned and is infested with roaches this is your place. I signed a 4 month lease here because It was close to my job and paid close to 1000 dollars a month to walk into a room with roaches,ants, an oven that didn't work, and a bed that was broken. Anytime something was broken you had to wait until Monday for It to be fixed. I called and told them of an infestation and they said " you should probably get some raid". This place is an absolute joke and waste

University Place has a convenient location next to UAB undergraduate campus, UAB medical center, and Five Points South. This area of town has you covered in terms of places for brunch, dinner, and nightlife. University Place is not as glamorous as other newer apartment complexes; however, it is much more affordable. Most of the competitors are more expensive, utilities are NOT included, and furniture is NOT included, unlike University Place which provides all of these things. During my stay here, they WITHOUT NOTICE allowed contractors/plumbers into my apartment and then my apple macbook pro somehow disappeared!! I was NOT informed that they had even BEEN IN MY ROOM until i bumped into them the VERY NEXT DAY IN MY ROOM AGAIN! Fortunately none of my legal documents were stolen, but they cud have easily been swiped. University Place Apartment effectively washed their hands of it stating they "could neither confirm or deny that the laptop was stolen on their property." This is supposed to say for students and other people looking for small units. Rent and utilities are included. I thought it was ideal. Unfortunately, it is mold infested. The building is surrounding a pool, with carpet on the grounds. The units doors and window face the pool;each have an ac unit under the window. This is one reason for mold. The manager claimed the unit was over burdened with stuff. Ok, stuff moved into storage. They painted the unit ; special paint they claimed. The mold is back with a vengeance . Have lived at University Place for about a year and a half now. Had a few manager swaps but this one has truly changed my opinion of this property. He's responsive, he listens, and does what he says he's going to do. This is an older property so I understand that maintenance is needed in my home but those work orders are addressed same day or next day. New fitness equipment arrived a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier!
Rent includes all of my utilities (Electricity, Water, and Trash!) which means I write one check every month and don't have to worry about anything except my Cable. Gated parking

This is my first time I've had evaluated any complex.
I've lived here since last Jan. If I stayed at Birmingham long time I would not stay here any longer .
To be optimized I will start with the Advantages:
1. Safe
2. close to UAB it takes about 5 or 10 minutes.
3. good rent price included the utilities.
The disadvantages :
1. very very very old.
2. dirty dirty.
3. the laundry room is awful, there are only 12 dryer machines and 12 washers, for more than 300 units !
I will let you imagine the dirty, smell , and who much hair you will find in your clothes.
