READ THE BAD REVIEWS!
The mini fridge was broken and moldy inside. The bar fridge was the only place to put anything you want to keep cold, but it was filled with overpriced drinks. There are holes in the upholstered furniture and the curtains. The furniture and floors were filthy. The fireplace (pellet) smokes and stinks up the room. The ocean view could only be seen once you walk outside and look around the big bush. No relaxing in the rockers outside looking at the view and I wouldn't risk sitting in the filthy chairs inside. There's no curtain for the bathroom window which meant

Ok where to start. I guess don't go here. The room was supposed to have an ocean view.We had a partial ocean view if you walked outside. Tried using the fire place but the material provided would not start. Then the room smelled like smoke the rest of the time we were there. Curtains had wholes in them backside of the curtains looks filthy. Chairs in room had holes in them and were filthy. Looked like they have not been cleaned in years. Fridge did not work. Bathtub would not seal to be able to take a bath. Key broke off in mini bar fridge. When we checked out staff didn't seem to care

We love the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort. We have stayed here over the years and it only has become better. We really took advantage of the in room fireplace. Love that option. This trip we hung out at the jacuzzi hot tub and it was great. While it was cold outside we were bubbly hot & we had the whole place to ourselves. Following that we took some libations to the outdoor firepits that over look the Pacific Ocean. During the day you can enjoy the outdoor oversized chess & checker set. This location is pet friendly and a great choice to stay on the San Simeon CA coast.

We enjoy coming to this place. Rooms are very nice. The staff is always so nice and helpful. Love the view from the balcony. The restaurants and liquor stores close to here are great. Easy access to beach. The only thing is the walls are kind of thin and can't sleep in in the morning. They also have no fridges or microwaves in rooms.

A quiet picturesque hotel located in San Simeon. My friends and stayed there over the weekend and it was an enjoyable experience.
We took the Oceanfront room which gave us an excellent view of the Pacific. The room was moderately furnished with a wood burning fireplace (which we didn't use) and reasonable amenities. The rooms get very hot during the day but then, we never stayed indoors until after dark making it bearable. It's pet friendly - note though that if you have an oceanfront room in the ground floor, there is no enclosed balcony so be careful with your pets.
The restaurant was great

Had an amazing stay at this resort. They have great views and they gave us complimentary champagne since I was celebrating a special occasion. They also have a fireplace in the room and provide you with enough supplies for the fireplace. Food was okay.
I would definitely stay here the next time I’m in California and would recommend staying here for oceanfront views.

Updated review thanksgiving week 2021. I have been coming here almost every year for the past 10 years. The cavalier has changed ownership a couple times but the service has stayed the same. I see a couple customer service complaints in the below review, but I have experienced only good things. one of the workers offered to help us carry our bags upstairs , super nice . The room was clean and well organized. We got the room with the king bed and fireplace. Yes your room may smell like smoke because there is a fireplace in the room. That's just some thing you have to deal with .open a window

First off, i called to ask for front desk for early check-in, the lady who answered did not sound pleasant. She had short quick answers. I asked for her name she quickly changed the subject. I figured she was busy. We arrived at front desk, waited and waited patiently for someone to come help us. The janitor was there to alert the lady in the back to help us. Again, same lady who I spoke on phone, same attitude and same unpleasantness. She was horrible in customer service. I asked for her name again, and she quickly blurted her name, i did not hear clearly her name-finally she repeated it for

This place did not meet our expectations for how much we paid. Spent two nights (sat & sun) for our Anniversary. We had requested a ground level room because I have mobility issues. Upon check-in, we were told there were no ground floor rooms available. STRIKE ONE!
The room smelled and looked unclean. Pets are allowed and the room sure smelled like it! Thankfully we brought our Microban 24 spray! The view was nice, but there is no grass as shown on the website. It is dirt. We wanted to keep our patio door open to enjoy the sounds of the ocean. This was not possible because of the smoke from

We absolutely love this place. Have been going for 3 years now. The place has everything you would need to have a relaxing and enjoyable time. The only and I mean only negative thing is that the rooms need a little updating. The carpet is getting really old and we saw a lot of ants in our room. Other than that we love this place and look forward to staying there. We hope they update a few minor things to keep the place intact and enjoyable for all.

We had a view from our balcony of the ocean this time around, we were also in a different location of the resort. The room was bigger than our 1st visit and this time around, it wasn't so windy. We had a fireplace, small dinette, a small living room and king size bed.. I was on my IPad, my daughter and I watched the sunset together.. Everynite the property has 4 campfires where you can sit by, we had one close to our back balcony, hubby went early, but the family below us selfishly hoarded the entire campfire, hubby was upset..I didn't bother

We were hopeful for this resort to be a nice weekend gettaway. It is on the ocean and we loved the drive in. We called in advance and asked for an ocean view and we paid extra to get a room right off the cliff after being told on the phone that we would be "15 feet from the cliff with an ocean view".
When we got in- we found that our deluxe king room with an ocean view had large bushes that obstructed 70% of the view. The room smelled heavily of smoke from fireplaces and there was no screen door leading to the balcony to have fresh air. There was also a window in the bathroom with no

- never seen such Unfriendly Unwelcoming front desk receptionists. Wish I could tell a name but they were all the same.
- NOTHING like what's shown in website picture gallery. It has the feel of motel-6.
- rooms are run down , old and you will be welcome by smelly trash right next to the room entrance
- the ocean beach is filled with rotting algae with flying bugs swarming around . The smell will nauseate you
- the heated pool is cold
- the cavalier restaurant carries on the legacy of unfriendly and "almost" rude staff . Not all but few of

The views great but you're paying for an out dated room. The room is worn, the black-out curtains have tiny holes, the armchairs are sunken in, the touched up paint is a different color, the bedding is threadbare. You can get great views up and down California, so this place isn't worth the cost. Plus Cambria is cuter, closer to outdoor activities and had the same prices.

Pictures of this hotel are deceiving. Basically you are paying for view only. Rooms are run down and look like 3rd rate motel rooms.
You expect that at least the TVs will work. We're told that it was cable service's fault when in actuality is the connection of cable to tv. Loose and there were no extra cable to replace it with. We really should have been given a credit but wasn't worth our energy. Groundkeeper tried to fix and said he'd talk to front desk to get us a credit. Didn't happen.
Grounds keepers were the only ones helpful. Front desk wasn't helpful

Such an excellent place to spend the night and enjoy the coast.
Perfectly situated, this once Best Western hotel still offers the same amenities with outdoor fire pits to enjoy every evening while listening to the California coast. If you're fortunate enough to also enjoy a sunset here, the view is absolutely picturesque.
Conveniently located to Hearst Castle, Cambria, and many wine tasting areas. This is a popular place so plan ahead.

We went here for my husband's birthday. Our room was cozy and clean, with a fireplace. But it was over the laundromat so we would often hear the whirring of the machines downstairs. That was really annoying. The hotel is too pricey ($300) to have a subpar room over a laundromat that always has its doors wide open. This building should just remain a storage and staff facility. We liked the proximity to the beach but the sand wasn't great for playing. My daughter loves swimming but the pool was too cold. The scenery was beautiful. The restaurant has a good menu and nice wait staff

Our destination was Carmel by-the-Sea, but we started our 4 day weekend a little late so we had to make a last minute overnight stop here. Mainly because I wanted to see our drive up the coast!
The oceanfront view is spectacular. We arrived after sunset, but still got to take in the ocean view and sea air before we called it a night.
Since we were oceanfront, my hubby took advantage of the scenic views while on his morning run. I, unfortunately, waited an hour for a working hairdryer that was never delivered, but I made due.
Staff was nice. We didn't take advantage of the restaurant

Middling to good quality; comfortable and clean overall, but dated in some ways. Rooms with patios / ocean views are significantly more expensive than rooms without, but I don't see the point of staying right on the ocean if you can't see it from your room. Rooms with patio (large carpeted patio with rocking chairs overlooking the ocean) are where it's at.
