River House is not only a North Carolina Bed and Breakfast but a Country Inn that's really in the country, located in Grassy Creek, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge mountains and directly on the historic New River. There's a mile of riverfront for strolling, wading, tubing, canoeing and fishing. Brown trout and rainbows abound.
Walking trails wind through 160 acres. Our neighbors include deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, a great blue heron, eagles and an occasional bear - just no mosquitoes. Most of our twelve uniquely decorated guest rooms are converted farm buildings with king-size beds, private bathrooms, jacuzzis, art, books and country antiques.

Services
All of our rooms are pet-friendly; all have private baths; and most have king size beds, large whirlpool tubs and gas log fireplaces. Most of our guest rooms are in converted farm buildings behind the main house. We'd much prefer to be less literal - to have you open a creaky old door and be surprised to find the king-size bed, the big Jacuzzi, the gas-log fireplace, the art, the books - but since you insist.
No bones about it! Pets are loved and welcomed if they are clean, quiet and can hold their liquor. No size/weight limitations or breed restrictions. There is however a pet fee of $25 per visit. Guests are responsible for picking up their "litter." Doesn't it sound nice to be able to go on a relaxing, intimate vacation and be able to bring your pet along?
Elegant but unpretentious, the River House restaurant is known for its great food and ambiance. Only minutes from West Jefferson and forty-five minutes from Boone, River House is the first choice for Fine Dining in the Ashe County High Country. The menu is small, as is the kitchen, and changes daily to represent the freshest seasonally available products.
Our menu changes seasonally and evening to evening. The day's menu is decided by our chef the days prior to bring you the freshest and most season-appropriate chioces possible. Special requests for allergy-sensitive, vegetarian and vegan plates are welcome, but advance notice is recommended. Here is this week's menu (sauces etc can vary from day to day) and a sampling of some recent menus.
A broccoli crown for a head of cauliflower - In Los Angeles Johnny Carson's show, 'Carson's Corner' was in its last 13 weeks. They hired and then fired a director every week until Ron Winston came on board. A Tomato Salad - Already getting depressed about the rapidly approaching end of tomato season!

We were so fortunate to stumble upon this jem! A truly beautiful and peaceful setting with the most unique and coziest rooms but, the best part is the service! We awoke to fresh coffee on our porch every morning and the most incredible omelets we've ever had. The owner and staff couldn't have been any friendlier or more accommodating. We will be recommending this place to everyone we know and plan to visit often! Thank you Gayle and rest of your team, we look forward to seeing you again soon!

River House Inn was suggested by a friend of ours and it did not disappoint. We stayed in the Wee Cabin which was very private. The cabin was very nice, clean and almost .4 miles from the main house. Peace and quiet at its best to help you relax and rejuvenate along the New River. Every staff member that we came in contact were smiling and friendly. We will definitely be back for a future visit.

This is a rare and wonderful place. It sits on a knoll above the ancient New River, perched above a meadow that rolls down to the river's edge. The main house has a timeless feel to it, with wooden floors throughout, a well stocked bar, interesting art on the walls, and a dining room that could well be in France. The food is superb, with fine attention to detail in every respect. The spirit that permeates River House is that of welcome, radical hospitality, and grace. It is truly a place apart.
