We strive to offer children of the community an educational experience that puts into practice the profound observations and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori program is characterized by order, structure and comprehensiveness, based on the physiological needs of the child; incorporating reality based activities designed to assist the child in the development of all areas of learning at the child's personal ability level and at the child's own pace.
The goal of our program is to develop each child's independent physical, emotional and intellectual functioning to his maximum potential through the exciting process of exploration and discovery.Melrose Montessori is a small school located in heart of Melrose, Massachusetts. Conveniently located adjacent to the Melrose Public Library in the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Services
Our classrooms are beautifully and meticulously prepared and equipped with a full range of materials unique to Montessori. These materials are sequential and selected based on developmental progress and needs. Each material is purposeful in its design and encourages the child to problem solve independently and reach conclusions without the intrusion of the teacher.
Melrose Montessori was founded in 1974 by Beatrix Masszi. She received her diploma from Association Montessori Internationale at the Washington Montessori Institute under the late Margerate Stephenson. Her passion and dedication provided the local community with an authentic Montessori experience, enjoyed by so many families throughout the years.
Our academic year generally opens within the first week of September and continues through mid June. We basically follow the schedules of public schools in our vicinity, however since minor variations do occur, we will issue our own calendar with exact dates to be established for the 2021/2022 school year.
We encourage and welcome parents to come an observe the classrooms. Each room has a one way mirror that allows that viewer to observe without being seen by the children. We also offer a time throughout the year when we invite the parents to be guests in the classroom. It is a great way of seeing the ambience of the classroom and a view through eyes of the child.
Unlike traditional preschools with a rolling curriculum, the child's need for repetition and consistency is met in the Montessori classroom. Our curriculum is constant, and students move through lessons and skills as they are mastered. This approach leads to a deep understanding of subject matter and a solid knowledge base that children take with them into elementary school and beyond.
