I lived here for two years and loved it. It's a beautiful building, the staff is awesome, my apartment was quiet, nice view of the skyline. The location was really convenient for subway access, historic sites, Reading Terminal, breweries and many food options.

I have lived here for over a year now and I can agree with many of the reviews on here that the staff is excellent as well as the building being clean and presentable. My biggest concern is with the noise from both outside and from neighbors. There is quite possibly no barrier to sound between the outside city noise and the activities of those living next to you. I don't think I am exaggerating when I say I have heard full conversations from people outside my closed window and could follow the plot of a movie my neighbor was watching.

After living at the Packard Building for two years, I can honestly say that it was by far the best living experience of my life! The front desk, management, and staff are all extremely friendly and truly care about each and every resident. The building is beautiful, secure, and very clean. The workout facility is 24/7, state of the art, and there is rarely a wait for any machine. Appliances in my apartment were very reliable, but if something was not working, maintenance would immediately fix it. There is no place that I would rather live in Philadelphia and I highly recommend it to anyone looking

We loved living in the historic Packard Building! The property staff went out of their way to always make us feel welcomed. Communication was always prompt and excellent, any property issues were resolved quickly, and always a smile from the Concierge/Security Desk. The building is extremely safe, quiet and clean. The location was perfect for us since we did not have a car in town. Trader Joes, Whole Foods and CVS nearby. We would not hesitate to rent again in the future!!

I lived here for four years during medical school and it was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating staff, prime location right in the heart of Center City, spacious apartments with high ceilings/large windows that open and close/thick walls so you never hear your neighbors. Convenient, in-house parking is available for those who want it. I would recommend the Packard to anybody!

Constant repair in a cold old building. Every year the rent increases on top of probably the most expensive electricity bill in the city, since the isolation is so poor because the building is old. For 1 bedroom apt, in winter time can go as high as $300. The entrance always smells bad. Been here for 2 years just because its transient and convenient for work. But regret I did not leave early.
There is always some repair, flood, fire alarm triggering.
The only perks of this place is the mail service and the location if you work in center city.
The kitchen and laundry utilities are old models

I've lived here for three years now. It's a great apartment for students. The area is also getting built up. The apartments are spacious and the management is great. They are very responsive to any problems that may arise and are happy to work with you to accommodate your needs

Beautiful building but there is constant construction which means drilling and loud banging at 8 am consistently. My car was broken into twice here and I had the police called on me for a simple lock out by a front desk attendant who accused me of trespassing although she had seen me every day for over a year. They spend more money on flowers for the lobby and new gym equipment than I can imagine and having my rent go towards that is unacceptable to not be treated right.

Have lived in the Packard for a few years, and the neighborhood has finally caught up to the building. An upper-scale deli / small grocery store is across the street, there are three coffee shops two or three blocks in a couple of directions, and Target is a five or six block walk away. The alley to the south that has in years past hosted commotion is now blocked to pedestrian traffic, which has sharply cut down on neighborhood panhandling, though Philly does not seem to have a good strategy for that overall. Pennsylvania Ballet rehearsal building is next door to the north.

I have been living here for over a year and I would say that compared to other apartment buildings, this place is reasonably priced... especially the cost of its parking, which is covered (another bonus). There are some sharp turns in their garage though. It's centrally located in Center City so you can walk to places in Rittenhouse, etc with no problem. When you're first signing on, administration does have some good deals...also there are some better rates if you work at Hahnemann University Hospital which is across the street.

As far as the experience of actually living here:

At first glance, this place looks great! ...and then you step into the elevators and the mask falls off. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for vintage, but this isn't vintage, it's just "dated." Nasty carpet, rusty, moldy, worn out, minimal and basic (at best) bathrooms. Not as painfully over priced as some, but too bad the developer didn't put his (a female developer knows where to spend) money into the parts that count the most. Such a shame. This property has so much potential with the right developer at the helm.

Almost a year living here and it's easy to tell the full story here.
my only concern is the maintenance staff. upon my first week of moving in my garbage disposal was broken and the dryer was not drying (which I've realized is an all around problem in this building). I request a maintenance visit, where the man came in and blamed me for everything wrong because he "thoroughly checks everything before move in and KNOWS nothing is wrong". pulls a spoon out of the garbage disposal and tells me it's my fault for dropping it in (I had only used plastic utensils and never washed

This building is SOOO overpriced for what you get!

first, the place is outdated and dirty. old carpets, poor decor and the amenities that they do offer are cheap and not worth it.

"amenity" 1: free coffee, but it doesn't taste very good and sometimes they just forget to order so it's not available for weeks at a time.

"amenity" 2: gym in the building, but missing pretty much every weight so there's no complete sets and its tiny.

"amenity" 3: garage parking. THAT THEY CHARGE $210 A MONTH FOR.

"amenity" 4: front desk associate 24/7. Except

This building is beautiful and was a great place to live. High ceilings and spacious apartments. The finishes and appliances are really nice. The only thing I didn't like about my apartment was that the washer & dryer are in the kitchen and are very loud, and dust from the dryer blows out into the kitchen.

I love the front desk staff at the Packard but the elevators are a real problem. For the amount of rent we pay and the lack of accessible and safe stairways, there is no reason an elevator should be down on average once every other week and then take more than one day to fix. If they are that unreliable, replace them!

Gym is the size of a closet, the bench press machine was broken for several months before they finally replaced a missing screw in the bench. The ELECTRIC bills for a 2 bedroom apartment ran ~ 300 a month through the winter. Our central heating unit would NOT even reach the thermostat temperature of 75 & we had to use additional portable heating units. We asked maintenance & were told that the heating units just aren't as effective in the cold (isn't that the point of heating units?). We faced the church on the north side & had great views of people doing drugs on the corner

We have lived in the Packard for a year now and have enjoyed our stay. We were new to Philadelphia and looked at several different apartments before settling on a 2bdrm unit here. I will give you my list of pros and cons...the cons being a very short list!
PROS
1. Hands down the VIEW, we never tire of looking at it.
2. The location is wonderful. I walk everywhere in the city from here.
3. On site garage parking, a non negotiable requirement for us.
4. Cleanliness. Sam keeps this place spotless from washing the front glass doors daily to vacuuming the massive lobby and the long hallways

I moved into the Packard building just about one year ago. We love the location, the architecture and the people who work here from day one. It is time to re-up our lease and I have very serious concerns about doing so. The problem is the building's policy of allowing smoking. A policy that is stuck in the 1980's.

One heavy smoking neighbor across the hall from me just left and two others moved in next door. The smoking starts at 5:30 a.m. and goes on throughout the day and into the night. It is even worse down the hall. From what I understand others above and below the smoking

The Good

- Maintenance. If you have something wrong with your unit, the maintenance crew is pretty responsive (though not always - see below).

- Storage. You should ask the leasing agent to make sure that your unit comes with one (I'm not sure if there is a wait list or not).

- Safety. I have never felt unsafe in the building and have never worried about being burglarized. As far as walking to/from the building outside, I've never had a problem. There is a sketchy alley adjacent to the building where homeless people congregate, but I've never had a problem with anyone.

I love this building. I have lived here for many years. The staff works very hard to keep the residents happy - from the property manager to the maintenance people to those people at the front desk. The apartments are a great size, high ceilings, large windows. And the building is close to 95, 76 and Ben Franklin Bridge.
