We have been a leader in eye care for over 50 years, serving Maryland and Virginia since 1964. In our decades of experience, we have watched our patients grow from young children to adults with families of their own, all with healthy eyes and their best vision. At our clinic, we have a diverse group of talents to best suit your eye care needs.

Our team consists of five doctors, making us well-equipped for vision assessment, disease prevention, and ocular treatments for ailments like dry eye. We have an in-house ophthalmologist, Dr Michael Summerfield, which means we are able to offer both cataract and refractive surgery here at Shady Grove Eye and Vision Care.
Services
When you visit our clinic you will first be welcomed with a smile from our office staff. They can answer any of your initial questions and will help you get settled before your appointment. Through your visit you will interact with an assortment of our 18 person team; optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians, and administrative support staff, all dedicated to you to provide the best experience possible.
Dry Eye Disease is the most frequent reason that patients visit eye doctors. We are concerned that you may be suffering with this condition as well. Therefore, we would ask that you take a few moments and thoughtfully complete the questionnaire below. Your information will be kept confidential. After completing the questionnaire, call (301) 670-1212 to set up a consultation with one of our dry eye specialists where your results will be analyzed.
Incorporating blinking exercises into your daily routine is a great way to relax your eyes and keep them comfortable. When doing your blinking exercises say the steps to yourself. This will help you avoid forgetting steps or rushing through the exercise. Blinking exercises are a great way to keep your eyes moist and combat the symptoms of dry eye.
When your eyes look at objects up close, such as a newspaper or a PDA, each eye must focus for the distance at which the object is held. The closer an object is, more focusing power is necessary to see it clearly. Physiologically the lens of the eye changes its shape and that shape change results in focus, or "accommodation".
New patient eye exams, when not covered by insurance, are $195 and include a comprehensive evaluation. Should the doctor discover a need for further evaluation, it will be offered on an optional per-test basis. Once you've become an established patient, eye exams (when not covered by insurance) are only $170.

I have changed optometry offices over the last several years because I have not been satisfied with any of them. That all changed today. A few weeks ago, I called to schedule an appointment. I was told I should complete the patient form online and bring it to my appointment.

This morning, on the day of my appointment, I received a text message an hour before my appointment instructing me to wait in my car when I arrived and to call the office. Erika answered my call and said I could come in and to knock when I was at the office. She brought me back to do the initial intake and and the pre-exam

I have been here for 3 sets of glasses now. Each time one normal and one prescription sunglasses. They offer a pretty good choice of frames. They also offer an option for a clip on reading lens so that I can still have a single vision for distance and playing sports. Maybe that is more common now but I had not seen that anywhere else. It is all a bit on the pricey side so hence 4 stars and not 5. The technicians are all very helpful in adjusting your glasses and stuff. All the staff was friendly to me. I have seen Dr V and Dr R on all my visits. They were both very professional in my interactions

I used to love coming here, but a few years ago everything changed, the staff, the doctors, even the guy who shows you glasses, everyone is trying to sell you something! I was prescribed a contact brand I did not ask for and specifically told the doctor that I do not want. I have been using the same brand for years and have been very happy with it... now when I try to order my regular brand contact through 1800 contacts this office denies it. Very dissatisfied and will not be coming back here for my next exam!

I had to come to Shady Grove Eye and Vision Care a couple times within the past year due to issues with my eyes. I was diagnosed with dry eye last year. I don't wear contacts or glasses and I was hoping the issue would go away with time but it didn't really so I looked them up on yelp (thank you yelpers) and decided to call and make an appointment. It's a really nice facility and the staff is nice and attentive. When you check in, there's not really much of a wait. They took really good care of me and I felt like everything was explained to me thoroughly and efficiently. I wasn

I've been coming here now for a year for my eye exams and glasses. Everyone is so friendly and professional, from the office staff, to the technicians, to the doctors. The staff does an excellent job of explaining my benefits to me when it comes time to purchases glasses, which can be confusing at best. I would tell all my friends to come here for their eye care needs.

It took 8 pairs of glasses and two additional eye appointments for you guys to realize that the prescription they gave my husband was missing his astigmatism. Each time we got glasses made somewhere else and they didn't work for him to see clearly we came to you guys and you checked them and said it was the right prescription. We came back in and took time off work to get his eyes rechecked you said the prescription was correct. We then spent double the money assuming no one else could make them correctly so we got sunglasses and glasses from you all. The sunglasses finally made it in. We

My family has been going to Shady Grove Eye and Vision for over 10 years. Our current Dr, Dr Rubin, is top notch. I highly recommend this eye care center.

Just moved to Rockville and needed a new pair of glasses, after doing a quick search on Google and Yelp I found Shady Grove Eye & Vision. They accepted my insurance so I made an appointment on their website where they let me pick three days and times that I preferred, then I was sent an email to let me know which appointment date was accepted and booked.

When I went in for the appointment I did not have to wait at all, I was seen immediately by a tech and then by the doctor. The eye exam was done by Dr. Wong who was thorough and attentive to my needs. After the exam I was helped by a very

Dr. Rubin is great and I loved going to her but they don't take my insurance anymore (CareFirst). I'm disappointed but I'll need to find a new place to go. My parents even loved her and my father was a retired optometrist and very particular.

I have been here twice to get my eyes examined, and was quite impressed by the wait time. I always prepare myself for a longer visit at the doctor's office. The staff and doctors here work very well together and are efficient. The technician started my pre-testing immediately after checking in, and I was seated in the doctor's office in no time. Lori was very personable and friendly; she explained each test and its purpose.

Dr. Wong has great bedside manner and took the time to answer my questions about my ocular health. I was concerned because I had a family history of glaucoma, and

My husband and I both see Dr. Wong and have always had a great experience. Nice office, convenient appointment times. The staff has always been friendly. And I've found them to always be clear in the paperwork when you're given the option to add on things that may not be covered by insurance, like a contact lens fitting.

I do feel kind of badly they we never buy glasses there but they're so expensive compared to alternatives.

But for eye and vision care I would definitely recommend this place. They are good for both adults and children, and they accept the vision insurance

Excellent eye care, with a staff that's personable, friendly and efficient.

I've come here for routine annual eye exams and have had great experiences to date. Dr. Vaziri and the rest of the staff give very thorough exams, and are great at explaining the significance of each test. All the equipment is up-to-date, and the exam feels very thorough.

The waiting room is clean and modern, and in fact, it's probably a misnomer to call it a 'waiting' room, as I've never had to wait much at all. Also, unlike some other places, Shady Grove has evening hours during the

I had a really poor experience here and was overcharged by more than $100 for a routine eye exam. I just wanted to select a pair of contact lenses and I've been wearing lenses for last 20 years. At the checkout; the staff claimed that I had a specialty eye exam of some sorts. Of course that wasn't mentioned before or during my exam; but only when I went to pay.
The staff at the check-out was brusque and the doctor; although nice seemed to be in a rush and ignored my questions.

I've been coming here for a couple of years and within that time, I have seen about two or three different doctors. That maybe a problem for some.
The staff are friendly and knowledgable. I make my appointments online and request a day and time convenient for my schedule which is usually always available.
My 4 stars come from my most recent appointment Friday morning. They would have received 5 stars had it not been for having to complete the glaucoma test (puff air test) twice due to technical difficulties with the computers not talking to one another (transferring data). First, I hate

To be honest, I only chose this eye doctor because it was close to work. I have been wearing Biofinity (2 week) contacts forever. After my eye exam I wanted to order more Biofinity, but they said they were discontinued. Believing them, my options were 1 day contacts (which are expensive) or 1 month contacts (which destroyed my eyes). I went with the 1 month contacts and hated them after several month.

I called them and still believing that Biofinity is discontinued, I ordered the daily contacts. They charged me for the daily contacts, but I was sent monthly ones. I contacted them, and

I have been going here for a few years with Dr. Alan Glazier. He is really takes his time with his patients, asking a lot of questions to see what works best. You can tell he cares about the wellbeing of his patients.

The staff here is really friendly and helpful, everyone greets you with a smile. They are amazingly on schedule, I have come to expect to wait an extra 30 minutes for all doctor appointments, but my usual wait time here has always been under 5 minutes!

Parking is super easy and the office is easy to find :)

Dr, Glazier did reach out to me. I choose not to respond initially so as not to go back and forth as I was upset for what I had to go through. I will provide feedback to him, as he legitimately cares for his business and this was no fault to the Doctor at all. The Doctor is an excellent Doctor, and as he mentioned these things happen.
As indicated here, I will provide direct feedback, so that another customer does not have to suffer the frustration I experienced.

Once again, Dr. Glazier is an excellent doctor, and this was no fault to him, hopefully he can use the feedback and fix what is
