Burlington Yoga
All masking and physical distance mandates are lifted. We are offering both in-person and online Zoom classes at our downtown Burlington, VT studio in order to meet the needs of all our students. Please pre-register at least 1 hour in advance. Burlington Yoga offers traditional Hatha, vinyasa, alignment, restorative and breath based classes in the heart of downtown Burlington, VT since 2001.

Burlington Yoga's mission is to provide a safe, supportive, focused atmosphere accessible to students of all levels to develop and nourish their individual practice. At some point, every person who practices yoga had to walk into a class somewhere, unsure of what to expect and unfamiliar with the rhythm of studio.
Services
In 2001 there were two studios in the area offering yoga classes, Bikram and Ashtanga. These studios and styles certainly provided a wonderful practice for many. It was our intention to offer the traditional teachings of Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow styles and Restorative Yoga to serve the wider needs of the growing practitioners.
We are using the Zoom video communications service, so if you are planning to attend on a mobile device, you will need to install the app (Apple, Android). If this is your first Zoom class, we recommend setting up your devices and performing the necessary installs about 30 minutes before the class is scheduled to begin.
Burlington Yoga's instructors are all Yoga Alliance certified, many through our own Teacher Training program. Piper (E-RYT-500+, IYT, YACEP, IAYT, Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Yoga Practice and Therapy) began her lifelong study of yoga as a psychology student at UVM in 1993. She sought the balancing and meditational aspects of this ancient practice as a compliment to academics, running, climbing and skiing.
Kari Stevermer (RYT 200) started practicing yoga as a natural extension of her love for dance and movement. After graduating from the University of Minnesota-Morris she came to Vermont to teach dance at a summer camp. During the winter when she wasn't dancing she began to look for a physical outlet which led her to Burlington Yoga.
Rhiannon Kim (E-RYT 200, RYT-500) views yoga as a space of healing oneself so that we are better able to be sources of healing to and for each other. She has been teaching at Burlington Yoga since she completed her 200 Hour Teacher Training in 2012. She completed her 500 Hour Teacher Training at Burlington Yoga in 2018.

The space was comfortable and open. My instructor (Emily, I believe) was very welcoming, professional, and helpful. Booked a class 30 min prior - process was very easy. Loved stopping in for a class while visiting town!

Beautiful well maintained socially distant friendly practice space. Pairs well with welcoming and well trained staff. I immediately felt at ease here. Very easy to book and pay online, no hassles when you go for your session you just set up your mat and don't have to worry about paperwork or money. The music during class is just right.

I've always felt intimidated to try out yoga classes, not only because of my extreme inflexibility, but also because I was worried that I wouldn't fit in. But Burlington Yoga has really turned things around for me.
When quarantine started, I was on the hunt for ways to stay in shape while staying safely at home. I saw that this studio was offering online classes, and since I was aiming to support local businesses as much as possible, I decided to give this place a try.
This is the first yoga studio I've been to where I've been motivated to keep going after the first class. All of the instructors

I practiced at Burlington Yoga for three years while I attended graduate school. The owner, Piper, is a wonderful yoga teacher. She's supportive and welcoming for students who want to deepen their practice. She comes from a background based in Hatha vinyasa flow (iyengar) which gives students the essentials for flow, with alignment and props used to help them get into poses easier. She's really skilled with helping students adapt their practice. Her background is also based in tantric and restorative yoga. As a whole, her classes begin with flow vinyasa, followed by relaxing restorative

I was in Burlington for the weekend and tried this spot for a Saturday morning yoga practice - yoga for runners. It was fantastic! The class had a nice flow. It was challenging but slow enough forward a strong focus on form, alingment, and deep stretches. The instructor was great too. She asked at the beginning of class what people wanted to focus on and worked those areas into the practice. Definitely looking forward to going again whenever I'm back in the area!

I found the atmosphere to be pretentious and the owner/instructor to be condescending. I've practiced yoga for years and understand that there are different styles but she seems to think her way is the only way ---which I've heard changes every few years (but the attitude unfortunately does not). Not for me. I'm into genuinely friendly yoga instructors.

Not one of the best yoga studios I have been to. I take late evening classes because of my work schedule, and most yoga instructors I have encountered are inexperienced and sometimes unprofessional. For example, the instructor greats the entire class at the end of the practice and ignores me, or ask some yogis what poses they like to do in the beginning of the class and ignores the rest of the class. Some unprofessional stuff like that which makes the place not the best to release the stresses after long day at work. Poses are very basic and not challenging even though it is not a beginner class

Went to the studio 5 times while visiting Burlington. Most students were more advanced than I am but Brian and Amelia, who were both friendly and exacting, offered many options. A good experience overall and I learned some valuable new things not taught at my home studio.

Took a class here while I was visiting in Burlington. The class was one of the best I have ever attended. The pace, playlist, environment, cues, and assists were great. Sarah delivered eloquent instruction that was both alignment-based and palatable to hear. Beautiful!

My yoga practice has grown so much since coming to BY. Before coming here, I had not known proper body alignment---even for basic postures. The teachers at BY have profound knowledge of alignment and body mechanics. They are very receptive to their students and the hands on adjustments are safe and effective. I find that I learn something new every time I practice . I am grateful for this studio!

This studio rocks, enough said! Perfect for both complete beginners as well as advanced practitioners. I had never done yoga before coming here, and I quickly fell in love with yoga and this studio in the most organic way possible. The environment at BY is extremely welcoming and all the instructors are highly knowledgeable and aware of the human body. You won't regret checking this place out.

I'm a yoga teacher from Chicago in from out of town. I took a flow class with Piper, the owner.

Piper was extremely rude to me after class. She made it very obvious that she had no interest in talking with me about yoga by avoiding eye contact and keeping her back turned towards me. I was totally shocked. I've never been treated like that in a yoga studio before.

The yoga:
Her sequencing was OK, but her cuing and assisting made the class inaccessible. Most of her assists felt micro-managy and pokey, and her cuing made no sense. As a student, I didn't feel successful. She spent

I want to say at the start that I am new to yoga. Really new. So I am not qualified to comment on the comparative merits of this studio with other places around the world (or even Burlington). That said, I'm a professional voice teacher and have done numerous workshops on Alexander Technique, body work and so forth. I know a lot about pedagogy, customer service, and the concept of creating a safe working environment. With that preamble let me say that Burlington Yoga is a perfect and magical place.
I had been afraid to start yoga. I put it off for years. Chandra (Piper) made me feel like I could

I love this studio. Was hooked from the first candlelight flow class with Malaika - since then I've attended and enjoyed a wide range of classes. Many options, all very highly skilled and knowledgeable teachers. Also love the prostrations, yoga nidra and vata balancing workshops too, check these out. I've moved away from the area and the thing that I miss the most about BTown is this yoga studio, organized and led by the unbelievable Piper - will visit again ASAP !

I was in town visiting for the weekend and I went to a class at Burlington Yoga. The class was really nice, I enjoyed the music, the space, but I did not feel welcomed by the teacher at all. I tried to be nice and chat since I was in town for a yoga festival and I teach in alexandria, va and always enjoy making new yoga connections in new places. When I approached the teacher after class I asked if she would be kind enough to share some of her music with me. She was very hard with her "No." I was very taken aback. Either I somehow offended her, or I guess I'm just a different kind

For the most part, I like Burlington Yoga. Many of the teachers are absolutely fantastic. However, I had my first bad experience the other day at a Flow class with Piper, the owner. The practice may have well have been in her living room. She walked around to correct form etc only a small, handful of times. When I went to her before class began to talk about an injury I have, she dismissed me and made absolutely no effort to help alter poses so I wouldn't exacerbate the injury. During the class as well as after, I found myself extremely agitated. How could the OWNER of this studio be so careless

Really enjoyed this studio during a recent trip to Burlington. Located right next to the Church St. market, it's a short-ish walk from the Hilton & Marriott hotels. They make it easy for out-of-towners: just show up, sign a simple release form, and pay the drop in rate (bring CASH though as they do not accept credit cards). They have mats available for you to use (a little ick, but free). I took classes with James and Michelle and enjoyed both a lot. Friendly to newcomers/ travelers AND a great workout to counteract all that restaurant food!

I was in Burlington for business and participated in two yoga classes at Burlington Yoga. As someone else commented, it is everything a yoga studio should be: beautiful, clean, warm and welcoming. My instructor for both classes was Lakshmi and she was terrific! She is kind, encouraging and provided adjustments throughout the class, ensuring you got the most out of your asanas without ever pushing too hard. Classes started and ended on time (important for morning classes) and were a great start to the day. If I lived in Burlington, this would be my studio! Highly recommended.

One of the best yoga studios I've been to. The studio itself is beautiful with light woods, clean studio, expansive windows with views from the second floor so not distracting. I've only taken the vinyasa class, but the instructor is excellent and I would imagine the other instructors and classes are just as good. I would recommend taking a beginner class if you're truly a beginner b/c there's no stopping to correct or instruct students to avoid disrupting the flow. Classes are always pretty full after work, so arriving early or on time is must. Bring your own mat if you

I'm new to yoga, but Burlington Yoga is pretty much everything I had thought a yoga studio would be like and more. The space is just beautiful with wide, open floors, great old brick walls, and just enough light to keep the studio from feeling claustrophobic. The floors are spotlessly clean, the temperature is warm and inviting, and they have an ample supply of blocks and straps and other items that a novice like me really appreciates.

Over the past few months, I've taken about 10 classes with 3 different teachers at the studio. They have all been wonderful and engaging. I look forward
