My name is Trish Singh. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California. I believe that assessments are necessary and helpful to families as many parents are told by others that their child is exhibiting symptoms of hyperactivity or attention problems, or perhaps learning or social difficulties.
Assessments help in determining the true cause of an underlying problem which impacts one's ability to function; whether it's related to mood (i.e., excessive worry, withdrawal from others, fear of being in public), remembering things (i.e., memory difficulties), learning new material (i.e., at school or at work), and/or general difficulties in social, personal and work relationships.
Developmental Assessments are performed to determine whether one has significant delays in their language, motor skills, and nonverbal reasoning skills. The purpose of these evaluations is to determine recommendations which would help support the development of any specific delays. Cognitive assessments are performed to help determine one's intelligence or cognitive ability.
The cost of a psychological assessment varies according to the type of evaluation that would be the most beneficial to your child as well as your child's age (i.e., young child, school-age child, and adolescent) and ranges from $1500 for children under age 5 and $2500 for children over age 5.
Cost includes the intake appointment, testing sessions, parent feedback session, collaboration with teachers, collaboration with others involved in your child's care (i.e., school counselors, pediatricians, school counselors, child and adolescent psychiatrists), report writing, and the 5 to 15 page report.

Why should I have my child assessed? Is your child having difficulty at school, with learning or being social? Is your child being called hyperactive, withdrawn, or distracted? Is your child seem angry, sad, worried, or nervous? Do you wonder if your child might benefit from special education services?
