The Classic 26 and Express 26 classes are structured sequences of safe and accessible yoga postures, and two specific breathing exercises. The postures are each held for a certain time, then we return to stillness, either standing or prone. This alternation between active engagement and active softness, allows time for the body to integrate, the mind to clear, and the heart to remain steady.
The predictable structure of the class allows you to remain grounded in present experience, rather than distracted by what posture is next. With just a few classes, you begin your journey as your own teacher. Observing yourself in present activity offers many lessons. We learn about ourselves, through ourselves.

The Classic Hot 26 class is a challenging series of 26 asanas, or postures, that are designed to systematically stretch, strengthen and restore health to every part of the body. This 90 minute program is practiced in a heated room, which warms the body allowing for deeper and safer movement. This heat also helps prevent injuries and rids your body of toxins while relieving stress and tension throughout your system.
I had the pleasure of visiting Maine Hatha Yoga last Thursday (7/18). What a beautiful studio! I have been practicing Bikram for over 10 years and I just met the most knowledgeable teacher. After one session, Angela improved my practice tremendously! Whenever I come back to Portland I will visit Maine Hatha Yoga.
Our new address is 260 Western Ave. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class time. Please bring a yoga mat, a large towel to practice with, another for the shower after class if you like, and some water to drink. We rent mats and towels, we sell water, coconut water, and some accessories.
We are seeking candidates for Maine Hatha Yoga's Teacher Training Program. We have designed a course that will prepare qualified individuals to teach our Classic Hot 26 Hatha Yoga class. It has come to light through the works of other dedicated and curious minds, that the sequence is older than Bikram Choudhury claims, casting doubt on much of his influence over the methods of practicing Hatha yoga.
The Ghosh Lineage is centered on using a series of 84 Therapeutic Hatha Yoga Postures to achieve optimum physical and mental health. The Hot 26 takes 26 of these 84 postures and arranges them in a way to systematically work through the entire body.
This is sometimes called the"bikram method" and is a 90 minute sequence of 26 safe and accessible postures and 2 breathing exercises performed in a room heated over 100° F. Designed for all levels of ability and body types, this class will strengthen and elongate all muscles, cleanse and detoxify cells, irrigate and revitalize joints, and increase cardiovascular stamina.

These guys aren’t covid safe at all… NOBODY was wearing a mask when my friend and I walked in.. like literally the guy at the front desk didn’t have one on and nobody in the yoga room had one on. Also, the guy was completely condescending and told us we were late and he wouldn’t be able to catch us up even though it was a beginner class and we were several minutes early. Terrible experience, we realized how unsafe it was and asked for a refund before the class started, we were told he would refund us after the class because he didn’t have time right then, and I didn’t get my money back

Critical:Â Professionalism
I was a loyal customer for years, until covid happened. The owner ignores all the safety measures and does not provide a safe place to practice yoga. He does not wear mask and did not bother to ask any questions about covid exposure, not to mention the 10 pass card we purchased pre covid that he let expire. Will not be back

I love this place! I'm still new to yoga and have been exploring different methods and gone to a couple of different studios, but I find this method the most powerful for improving mental health; and there is also just something really unique and welcoming about this studio. Check it out if you haven't!

This practice has allowed me to stay healthier both physically and mentally over the last 2+ years that I've been going regularly. Angela and Michael provide a nurturing environment and are wonderfully skilled teachers, as are Ashley and Leo. I'm beyond grateful to be able to practice here and to take the lessons learned here outside of the studio and apply them both in my personal and professional life. Thank you! xo Ludmila

Maine Hatha Yoga changed my life. Perhaps it was the yoga practice that changed my life, but the amazing staff and fellow students here certainly were a part of it. I'll never be able to truly express the gratitude for all of the teachers here, in particular Leo, Jen, and Angela, who taught me from the ground up with patience and kindness. I'll… never forget how overwhelmed I was in the first few classes, with no idea how to do the postures and spending most of my time trying to figure out how to breathe in the heat. With the teachers' encouragement, open heartedness, and respect for my

I have practiced different yoga styles for years and whatever I dabble in, I love! I love yoga! I have recently had a hot yoga experience, I don't like hot but I saw it through because I love yoga! I am hooked! My body has not experienced the hot yoga "feel" and I like it! So much space, less aches and pains, and just general upliftment..thanks Maine Hatha Yoga! You Rock!
