Services
If you are interested in taking a single class, multiple classes in the same week, or a series of classes that take place on the same day over the course of several weeks please send us an email here. The role of Yoga in your life is highly personal and deeply rooted in your goals and expectations for your practice. And we respect the difference and individuality of those goals. Many students come to us to recover from an injury or get relief from an ongoing ache or chronic condition-others are seeking physical fitness, inner peace, stress relief or a higher purpose in a hectic world.
We did not really know what to expect from Yoga when we began our first-ever yoga classes with Joseph. We were excited about what yoga might do for our flexibility and balance-both physical and emotional. Joseph's class surpassed all our hopes, and we were privileged to take his classes for nine years, during the entire time that he and Candace had a studio in Belmont.
Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar, author of the classic Yoga treatise "Light on Yoga". It emphasizes proper alignment. It develops body awareness, flexibility, strength and endurance. You should expect a safe and systematic progression of Yoga postures to develop each students ability and skill within a class and from class to class.

Joseph and Candace bring to their teaching an amazing blend of
knowledge, personal/spiritual maturity and quiet generosity which is rare in any situation. I have been a student of yoga for over 20 years, and a teacher for over 10. I am continually inspired and humbled by the way they selflessly share what they know.
They embody the teaching beautifully-so to practice and learn with them is to be in the presence of Yoga in action.
Still Water is a place to really learn about Yoga--without the bells and whistles many studios have created to attract students.
They are first and foremost dedicated

This is not today's typical yoga class--it is something much more interesting and much more connected to yoga as I understand it. I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, and I have come across many teachers. Joseph and Candace stand out for their deep understanding of the various elements of yoga, their dedication to its careful practice and their devotion to their students' well-being. The classes foster community (there is almost no student turnover!) and build on each other as students learn to direct their attention inward at every turn. The results gradually emerge as more peaceful body

Joseph Satlak is an awesome life force. Portland is extremely lucky to have an instructor of his serious caliber. When I described my practice at Still Water to another yoga instructor, she said, "Oh, you're taking private lessons." I said no it was a group class and that's just how instructive and personal the class is. If you're looking to transform, go to Still Water Yoga, Portland's Iyengar specialists.

This is a beautiful, serene studio run by master-level teachers. I have worked with Joseph and Candace for years and learned from them many ways to keep my back healthy (I have scoliosis) and my body supple and strong enough to hike all the mountains I choose. Just recently climbed Mt. Washington (6,288') again in the Whites of NH at age 63. Both teachers have been great at adapting the class work to my needs when I've been injured from other sports. I've also learned a great deal about the human body from working with these yoga gurus! I leave their classes a calmer, looser, kinder person than
