The cabins were super clean, the beds were absolutely comfortable, great staff, just a wonderful place which is sometimes hard to find in Big Bear. Absolutely beautiful, service is great, the people are great, the spaces cabins are beautiful and the pool is refreshing. The Grey Squirrel Resort is a charming resort property with 19 rustic cabins situated throughout a three-acre, common recreation area.
Built in the 1950s, the Grey Squirrel Resort is a family owned business that still maintains that wholesome quality that was established way back when. Many families have been coming here for decades. Those who came here as children, now bring their own children and grand children to experience the serene, peaceful mountain setting.

Services
The Grey Squirrel Resort consists of 19 rustic cabins, nestled near the heart of Big Bear. Just far enough away to find peace, but close enough to be connected. We want to be known for the connections we create here. It has been in operation since the 1950s, and is now under new Ownership. Shervin Sharifi took over in February of 2020, and immediately started to work hard at improving the image of the Squirrel.
1 Car Max Our Dream Weaver studio is located at the end of the complex. It has a king size bed, a full bath, wood-burning fireplace, couch, and a flat screen TV. This unit offers a cozy place to lay your head at night. Guests love Dream Weaver for its great cabin feel and comfortable layout. Dream Weaver is one of our very popular studio cabins, and there's no question why! Free Wifi included.
A year round vacation destination, Big Bear Lake in California has something to offer everyone. The San Bernardino National Forest includes eight designated wilderness areas. These areas offer numerous opportunities for hiking, backpacking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, fishing, and just getting away from it all.

Anniversary & Hubby's Bday Trip

Pros - cuter than the photos honestly! We stayed at the Honeymoon Cottage. FRESH & CLEAN, layout made sense. Loved that there was parking right in front of the door because it was cold at night (outside). An additional space heater inside the unit to keep you extra toasty but the interior heater was already great, we put in the Bathroom because it got a lil cold with the door closed but nothing to bother). Enjoyed there was pots and pans for my breakfast convenience. A cute fridge with enough space for milk, eggs, drinks, basically the basics!

The cabin was quaint and had a cozy feel. Check in was easy and fast. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately we checked in when the office was nearly closing. When we got into our cabin, set up and were ready to go to bed, is when our challenges started. The mattress pad was very uncomfortable, causing sink holes. Also, the sheets and bedding had a strong odor as of a wet rag. Had a terrible nights sleep, due the mattress and kept waking up feeling I’ll, due to the smelly sheets. The office was closed, so had to sleep on the little couch that had cushions that were leaning forward

The cabin we stayed in was Secret Garden, was cozy and quaint, had separate kitchen w/amenities, living room, bedroom and bath. The surfaces all looked clean but there were many spider webs in corners and a huge one in kitchen sink that just didn't want to die! It's a miracle i didn't get bitten.
Check in was easy and fast, front office woman was friendly and helpful.
The bed was horribly uncomfortable tho and sheets had a funky wet rag odor to them. There was a mattress topper that made us sink in very uncomfortably, like it caved in. The first night we slept awfully, tossing

1st time staying, we're in for the Tour de Big Bear. Cute place, stayed in the Honeymoon Cabin, some what clean...I would have liked cleaner, coffee pot (no coffee), courtesy wine (was nice of them), jacuzzi tub was great and courtesy bath bubble was great too. Bed was horrible huge dip in middle. For the price could have been better. Won't stay there again.

A Magical Woodland Paradise. This little spot of heaven had everything I expected for a Big Bear vacation. Warm pool, floaties galore, and towels provided. Swing sets sprinkled throughout the property and a stunning koi pond. Perfect place for Family Vacations or even Reunions because of the multiple rental options at this property. We had a roomy 2 bedroom cabin with all the amenities. Included full kitchen which was so helpful with kiddos in tow. I loved Big Bear and Grey Squirrel and will be back for a longer stay very soon! Thanks for everything.

You can expect an enchanted experience, with a very attentive staff who is genuinely kind and caring about your safety during this pandemic. The owner and staff are all very professional and if there is any issues they're quick to remedy the situation as fast as possible. The communication is clear and prompt. It's a perfect place to enjoy time away but still stay safe during this pandemic with contactless check in and out. They follow all the CDC recommendations to safeguard everyone from COVID-19 while providing a comfortable place to enjoy nature and unwind with just you and yours

We stay in Big Bear 1-2 times a year and check out different resorts or cabins. This was our favorite! In the 10 years we stay in BB, this cabin was awesome! We arrived on a Sunday when everyone was leaving. I mean literally everyone left. The weekend crowds streamed down the mountain as we were coming up. The staff was friendly when we arrived . We grabbed complimentary coffee and snacks at the office and bought a few souvenirs and scarves. Our cabin was located off the property but next to it. It was amazing! A cool round fireplace in the center of the cabin. There was enough room and space plus

We are definitely coming back, thank you so much to the management of Grey Squirrel to giving us such a great weekend!
I warn you all: don't let yourself or your kids be tempted by Grey Squirrel's strong WI-FI signal. Put down your tablets and smartphones and enjoy Big Bear!
Frankly, I don't understand any negative reviews; are they written by "Karens"? People who've never stayed in rustic mountain cabins before and are expecting the little units to be five-star resort properties, where every tiny disappointment gives them a free night or something?

We just spent the weekend with all our family and friends for a birthday celebration and had the best time imaginable. The kids had all the room to play and we loved our cabins. The owner hung out with my boyfriend's parents around the fire and made their trip so enjoyable. The pool was nice and heated and it looks like they're putting even more amenities. We'll definitely be back!

DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE IF YOU HAVE PETS
I was almost going to book a cabin, when I noticed the contract stated "Not a Pet Friendly Resort" and that they would charge $150 to any guest violating this rule.
Me and my family have coming here for over 10 years and this place has ALWAYS been pet friendly. I guess some new idiot bought the resort and changed the cabin names and does not allow pets anymore.
Too bad, it used to be such a great family friendly place, now it's gone to $#!+

We stayed at Whispering Creek unit at the Grey Squirrel and we enjoyed every moment of our stay! Traveling with a toddler can be challenging but our unit had zero sharp edges and absolutely baby safe! It had a little private playground in the backyard that my baby would open his eyes every morning with smile and run to the playground !
The common area has big fire pit with super comfy lounge chairs to chill and relax and enjoy the sunset.
Highly recommend this place for a family vacation.

This spot is great. The service is great Shervin the owner made sure we where we'll accommodated and taken care of. Our family enjoyed our time there and would definitely plan another trip. Our rental contained 3 rooms one bathroom open space living room and kitchen. The kitchen had the basics some utensils pots and pans. Parking for 2 vehicles. A grill and an outdoor table with seating. WIFI available. The resort it self is a 10 minute walk to the Marina Pleasure point. The resort supplied a tennis area, ping pong and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows at nite supplied by Shervin. Very

MAJOR PRIVACY ISSUE, The blinds are completely see through at night, when i went outside to my car and on my way back inside i noticed how visible everything was through the entrance door window with the blinds down, so i checked the other three windows and all windows were completely see through, even from a distance on the main driveway. We booked the "Honeymoon suite" and were expecting privacy, especially with the shades down!?! We were very uncomfortable after finding out later on in the night, after showering and changing in the room thinking nobody can see us, meanwhile anyone

I brought the kids up here for a few nights just to get away and I am so glad we returned to the Grey Squirrel for some mountain time! We have been coming here for several years and the beautifully landscaped property and cute, rustic cabins has always kept me coming back. Now under new ownership, I have another reason to return and that is Shervin who recently bought this gem of a property. She is putting her heart and soul into making improvements in all areas of the property and simply wants her guests to have the best possible experience, which we did! I was excited to see multiple areas on

DO NOT STAY HERE!!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I took a family vacation with my 3 kids to Big Bear over the weekend, and decided to stay here because the price was in my range and it seemed like a decent place to stay, but I couldn't have been more wrong.
When we finally got our room, the front desk lady was very unfriendly and unhelpful. Once we finally made it to our condo, I knew something was wrong, I just had a feeling the place hadn't been cleaned, and here is what I found.....
There was a used bar of soap still in one of the bathrooms, the floors had not been

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Booked through a third party and on this website it said "2 bedrooms" we arrived and there was only 1 BEDROOM and we were 2 couples. The staff were NOT helpful at all and we had to sleep on the floor because they refused to help us. I would not reccomend taking a chance and booking through this place. Putting False or deceiving information online is NEVER okay. Also, the bed and pillows had gross stains on all of them.

2019:
Excited to say that things around the resort have been restored, updated, and are in progress. They've redone flooring, exteriors, wiring, sewing, updated the pool, and more. These cabins were built in 1945 and so they aren't the most modern cabins they still have a rustic charm to them.
This year we rented out 5 cabins with almost 30 of us. And we all kept talking about how much we loved it. We plan on coming back again... year after year... like we have for 30+ years.
Things I love:
The new pool.
The pool toys.
The open space for the kids to play.
The fire pit.
