From his early days as a self-taught winemaker and wine sales professional to today, Mark's curiosity has been the driver. For Mark, wine is extremely personal. Mark Ryan McNeilly founded Mark Ryan Winery in 1999 with the simple and lofty goal of making the best wine in Washington State. Largely self-taught, Mark honed the craft of winemaking through rigorous study and the welcomed advice of some of the area's most experienced producers.
The goal has always been to make delicious wines representative of our style and varietal character, striving for the highest quality every vintage. I studied wine for years before I produced my first vintage. I was working as a wine distributor during the day and a server/bartender at night when I fell in love with the culture of wine.

Q: Where did the name DEAD HORSE come from? A: Our first vintage in 1999 was sourced from Ciel du Cheval, which translates to Horse in the Sky or Horse Heaven. DEAD HORSE just seemed extremely appropriate (although not everyone agreed in the early days, it's worked out pretty well). Q: Why are there so many motorcycles in here?

Went for a friend's birthday, we were a large party and I acknowledge that some guests came late. I was floored by the treatment by the staff, literally said one of my friends lied about the seating (The birthday girl was 15 minutes late? not a huge deal I would of thought). Will not return or be buying their wine again, huge bummer.

We have enjoyed Mark Ryan for many years, and love his wine. Unfortunately, his staff has gone down hill. We had previously made reservations for a bachelorette party. Our lunch next door was running behind, so one of the girls walked over to let them know we would be 5-10 minutes late. The woman behind the counter was extremely rude, stating they may not be able to serve us. They continued to be rude throughout our wine tasting experience, even to the point of whispering to each other while staring at us. St. Michelle went over the top to make sure we enjoyed our tasting with them, wish Mark Ryan

Very disappointing visit. 1, they monitor the time of your tasting to the extent of a countdown till your exit.. 2nd when inquiring on a potential buy and taste, the server stated " sorry you're at your time… capacity!" This is disheartening when you drive 40 min for the wine country experience. 45 min Mark Ryan is NOT sufficient time to taste and BUY. Best to allow a customer to partake, enjoy and spend $$ at a leisured time frame.. wouldn't spend the time or money friends.
They're lost out on 2 bottles of wine consumed.

The wine as always was superb, it's hard during this time to have wine tasting without something to cleanse your palate. Other wineries do have crackers or something available. It wouldn't be unreasonable to allow patrons to bring in unopened food items. I think it would enhance the experience. That being said, we will be back.

BOARD TRACK RACER for the win!! We made it in here just before closing and the older lady working in here let us know she was going to need to close shop in 10 minutes. We let her know it was no problem and we would just share a tasting to make it easy on her - note the tasting fee here is $15. The wines here were STELLAR. The Board Track Racer was not on the tasting list but she had a bottle open and let us taste it! It is so jammy and delicious I couldn't stop thinking about it after we left. Last night I went to a housewarming party where someone brought two different bottles from that

A pleasant surprise. Esposa and I stumbled upon this place not knowing about it. Great ambiance. Love the motorcycle! Our hostess had the cold lack of personality of Martha Stewart. Zero personality. Fortunately, the wines that she poured were world class. These are serious wines with superb balance and complexity, approachable now but built for aging.

Fun space and gotta love the reds. loved the posters and the props. some of my friends even inquired about the artwork.
of all the places, I enjoyed this and one other winery the best. since we were going to prowl around, they stored my purchases back behind the counter and we messed around a bit.
I admit I like their product but this is a cool space. When we came back to pick up our purchases, it was packed. Good sign, eh?

Wine is great but this place is definitely starting to feel like it's getting too big for it's britches. Doesn't have the small winery charm it had when it was by the schoolhouse. Service has never been very warm here and the pours are stingey (however, the lower tasting fee of $10 makes up for that). Great for groups and a fun place to stop in a Woodinville outing.
