Enough about us. We could certainly talk story about ourselves and embellish it with tremendous amounts of fluff but for those of you who know us and those who may in the future meet us, that is the antithesis of who and what we are. That which we feel to be most important 'about us' is reflected in that bottle of Rulo wine you have poured into your glass.
We are the sole owners and employees of Rulo Winery. Kurt is the solo winemaker; Vicki is the worker bee. We share all other winery tasks equally from vineyard checks to tank washing to tasting room responsibilities to distribution to paperwork to cleaning toilets. We are control freaks. The entire day in and day out operation of our winery is dependant on the two of us and we can guarantee you we are not a hobby winery.

Services
Owners Jim and Regina Vandersloot purchased this vineyard, formerly known as the Vanessa Vineyard, from the Farley family in 2003. The vineyard is located approximately 2.5 miles directly south of the winery and we have received Chardonnay from this site since our inception in 2000. The soil composition is silt loam which was created by the back water deposits of the Missoula floods.

I wanted to go to this winery after I had bought a bottle at Trader Joe's. We arrived and they look closed, but we knocked on the door anyways. Vicki said the winery was close but that Kurt was working, if we knocked on the winery door, he might be willing to provide us with a tasting. I was expecting a wine or two, but he pulled out 8 fabulous wines! He was so informative, humble and personal. This trip was about experiences for us -Kurt exceeded our expectations!

Every wine was well made...there were some we liked better than others, of course. It was s friendly atmosphere, and there were a variety of cheeses to taste. Limited hours. Wines are priced right...not over-priced. No wine club, but they maintain a mailing list and will contact you a couple of times a year.

One of the best kept secrets in Walla Walla. In fact, I'm hesitant to write about them because I don't want anyone else to know about this place: I want it all to myself. Their wine is spectacular; artisan and heart-felt, ingenious and original. I love the variations they do on Chardonnay. If you can get some rose snag as much as you can because it goes fast. Its been a while since I went on a big weekend (barrel tasting, spring release, etc.) but I recall they make an awesome spread of cheeses. 'Just Really good people. Oh yeah, because they don't use a distributor, their wines are 10-20% cheaper

Rulo is exactly what one ought to want from a wine-tasting experience: fantastic wines, interesting, knowledgeable staff and an unpretentious atmosphere. Kurt and Vicki are the owners and proprietors of Rulo, and my party and I spent easily an hour speaking with them about the intricacies of winemaking and wine-growing. I've seldom had a chance to speak with people who clearly took so much pleasure from their chosen vocation in the wine industry. To be frank, I plan to return to Rulo for their company alone.
Of course, their wine is superb as well: their Viogner is among the best I&apos

The idea that you go to a winery for a great view is ridiculous. I went to this winery to taste wine not be entertained by a view or a nice seating area. Their wine is crafted beautifully every single white and red I tasted was delicious. It was especially nice to see they had several whites to choose from in a region where there are so many reds. And I really liked that the winemakers themselves do the pouring. Very refreshing and a great learning experience to talk to the winemaker himself.

Worth the trip. We came on recommendation of the neighboring winery. They were pouring 3 different Syrahs with different vineyards and vintages as well as two Chards. Affordable wine (whites and reds in $25 range, up to around $40) that doesn't taste like it. The wine maker even showed us his lab, and took the the time to talk to us about wine. They had 4-5 whites and 3-4 reds, and even opened a future release for us to try. Very impressed. Probably joining this club soon.

This is a must stop when wine tasting in Walla Walla. While reds are ubiquitous, this place hasn't forgotten about the white varietals. They have a lovely portfolio of several wines including a Chardonnay aged in oak and a second solely in stainless steal. They make a lovely Syrah and a stand out petite Syrah. The price points are approachable for all, with most between $20-$30 a bottle. Kurt and Vicki are lovely hosts and make the tasting experience fun for all.

This is a little known gem. When we were dining at South Fork restaurant, we asked for a recommendaiton on wine and they recommended Rulo's white. We loved it and wanted to visit the winery. We read the story of Vicki and Kurt on line and liked the fact they are control freaks and don't distribute. They are very particular about their wines. She opened her doors on a Sunday, very last minute, and invited us in. She was very hospitable and cares very much about the quality of their wines.
All of their wines, and I mean, all of them that we tasted were excellent. We ended up

Rulo winery was our first stop in a weekend's worth of tastings in Walla Walla and we couldn't have hoped for a better start.
Walking into the tasting area of their spotless winery, Vicki greeted us with a smile and a handful of glasses, meanwhile a friend of the family stepped outside to retrieve the winemaker from hitting golf balls out back.
A visit to Rulo winery's website will explain that the entire affair is micro managed by the husband and wife team with an abundance of passion and the expressed goal of transparency and clear communication regarding their wines and their

Rulo was recommended by several people and we're really glad we listened. Kurt and Vicki make fantastic wines. Probably one of the top 2 in Walla Walla. Their Syrah's are amazing, as are the Cabs. All of their wines, we had to take home.
Make sure to visit Rulo when you get to Walla Walla. You'll thank me later.
