Welcome to our online visitors' center with photos, weather, maps, directions and Peaks of Otter FAQs for your convenience. Peaks of Otter has drawn settlers and travelers to the region for more than 8,000 years. The community whose vestiges remain to be explored today had its beginning in 1766 when Thomas Wood arrived from Pennsylvania.
The wife of one of Wood's descendants would open her home as the area's first lodging for travelers in 1834. By the late 1800s, Peaks of Otter would be home to some 20 families, a school, a church and a resort hotel. Thomas Jefferson is just one of many luminaries who have visited Peaks of Otter over the years and felt compelled to record the magnificence of the experience.

I did not stay at the lodge. However it left such an impression on me that I would like to book a stay during the fall months or the Spring months Spring months at some point.. The lodge is surrounded by the peaks of Otter Lake which is absolutely beautiful. Around the lake are are little spots to sit and little and little fire pits pits to utilize which makes it very cozy For the fall months. You can also walk all the way way around the lake which is a good bit of 30 to 35 minutes . The best part about this is it surrounded by 2 of the most popular hikes flat top and high top mountain ranges.

Very nice lunch here.
Had a grilled chicken salad which was delicious. Beautiful view of the lake from all tables because of the full length windows.
Asked about their Thanksgiving buffet, which I was told they are not having this year. Lodge will close 1st of November.
Can understand but really hope the lodge will stay open through November next year and have their exquisite Thanksgiving buffet.
We went several years in a row (prior to covid) bringing our grown children and we all stayed at the Lodge there overnight.
Such a nice Thanksgiving and hope to be able to do again in the future.

They have been placed back to their federal government rules for wearing of masks which was met by many people with low talking under their breath as they walked back to their autos.
That is for those who even read or cared about the sign.
The bar in the Lodge is not back open as a place to sit in a chair and enjoy a refreshing adult beverage. Only may access by getting a table in the main dining room. No regular bartender is on duty either.
I enjoyed the lunch I had and wondered if there was to be a Peaks of Otter Lodge in this environment where once you were allowed to spend time with your

We stopped here while riding motorcycles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There were other motorcycles parked outside as well. It was almost 3:00 when the dining room closed, but we were seated and served. Delicious food, excellent service! Beautiful view from the dining room of the lake and mountain. Pictures of a wedding party were being taken and wedding guests were walking around. We also went into the gift shop and purchased souvenirs and a tee shirt.

The service was great, staff was friendly and very helpful. The food here is awesome- I had the buttermilk chicken tender salad and my mother got the Famished Hiker Chicken Sandwich, fast service and nice waitress. The view is gorgeous and even has a path around the pond along with plenty of other trails. Also has a cute little gift shop at the lodge. The stay here was nice and i would definitely recommend!

This is a beautiful place to stay! Granted the rooms are dated but that is part of the charm. Was greeted when checking in and the representative was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a limited menu, but the food was good. We ate both supper and breakfast...we had a grilled chicken salad which had fresh mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, crumbled bacon and the chicken. All was good. For breakfast my husband had an omelette and I chose fresh fruit. There is a nice blacktop trail around the lake which is nice for exercising... saw deer, rabbits and a huge turtle on our walk!
