Delicious bread, but rude staff. Gal today was on her phone while I was giving my order, and then texting someone while I'm waiting for my receipt (she'd put her phone on the counter so could see what she was doing). Basically every time I've been in there the clerk was disinterested and unfriendly. Also no one wears a mask.

Excellent Polish bakery near the Jefferson Park L stop. The Grandma's bread which is a sour dough rye is outstanding. They also make a whole grain rye bread which is also delicious. We would take a 30 minutes ride on the L just to get the bread. Recently we bought perogies with mushrooms and sourkraut and they were very delicious.

New info after my personal visit. We had a little confusion with my order but I think everything came out better than I expected.
The Japanese poppy seed cake is absolutely phenomenal, moist, fresh, delicious. I just wanted to say thank you to Master Pastry chef MR Jacek. Paczkis the classic ones with the prune filling are the best ever. Thank you Ms Magda for helping us out there. Ideal Bakery is perfect for any of your pastry desire .
I had also a chance to taste the torcik makowy from this bakery. It was out of this world, super moist, 3/4 th of the torcik it was poppy seed. It had a small

I purchased a Raisin Egg Twist Chalka bread - it's dry and has no taste. I found one golden raisin in my slice. I looked at the ingredients and Margarine was used...come on - there is butter out there!!!! use it versus using margarine which contains horrible toxic chemicals. This only cost me three dollars, but I would gladly pay five or six dollars for a delicious loaf of bread. The birds will enjoy it. My advice - check the ingredients if you care about your body at all and purchase your goods somewhere else.

I drive from about two hours away in WI to buy their Rye bread. Best bread I have ever eaten in my LIFE. The only thing that can compare is fresh out of the oven bread from a small baker in Poland. I wish they could ship me fresh bread every week! Rye bread, fresh grass fed butter and some soup from Rich's. Heaven.

FAT TUESDAY. If you're into pretending you're in New Orleans , get your REAL Patchzkes at Ideal Bakery. Or , anytime. Yeeeeah , you can do fake ones at Bennison's. Last time I tried to that , the ravenous yuppies were neither giving me any room to make my way out , not refraining from shouting at me for not getting out fast enough. An old lady told me to leave the second I got those lame Patchzkes (Their eclairs, while passable , have nothing on Ideal , either.), and I told her I could'nt move because there was a small , unattended child right behind me , and I was really afraid

Apparent change of owner in January 2016. The grocery section of the store has been emptied and is now used producing big cheese cakes. Big loss to the neighborhood. That space used to be full with reasonably priced food items. I especially miss the Cisowionka bottled water from Poland and the wide selection of nectar and fruit juices.
On a positive note, the baked goods are always fresh and very reasonably priced. And you can get a cup of decent coffee (with half and half out of the bottle rather than some powdered creamer) for a buck.

Where you find out that variety is not good. OMG, all those deliciously-commercial-package-illustrated Polish food goods. You'd go broke trying to discover what each one of them is by trying a couple of new items each time. AND THEY'RE FREAKAMAJIGGIN' EXPENSIVE! HOLLY MOTHERFAGGIOLI!
Did you know that the US government has given them a special allowance, meaning a relaxation from certain food additive restrictions, to Polish-manufactured processed food items, as long as said items are destined to be sold chiefly at ethnic food stores as their end selling destination? But

Long time consumer of their poppy seed cake, which was usually delicious. Just bought one after a long absence of their pastries at our local grocery store, and it was pretty awful. It was not out of date, so freshness not an issue.
It tasted like lard was added, even though the ingredients say vegetable oil. They must have changed ingredients to save money, but who knows. Oh well, we won't be buying this brand anymore.

No one was falling over themselves to help us out but I witnessed a few smiles here and there so maybe these ladies take a while to warm up eh?
Whatever the case, I think they could be a little more outgoing, welcoming, friendly.
Now..the goods. The cheese danish I tried was a mouth full of awesomeness and the other items I sampled (thanks Lauren & Johnny) were pretty good as well.
i live fairly close so maybe when construction ends I'll drop back in.

We stopped in here as part of the neighborhood tour. I bought a chocolate covered cannoli with pistachios on the ends and it was nice and chilled and tasty. I also bought three pierogi: blueberry, cheese, and sauerkraut and mushroom. They were ok, but I have had better. Also, I got the feeling the counterwomen did not enjoy having us in there. I wanted to ask about more things in the case and would have perhaps bought more, but I felt put off.

There are all kinds of Polish Delis up here that carry a little bit of everything. This one's one of the best because of their baked goods- their multigrain bread is one of my favorites I've found in the city. If you value GOOD bread, this place is worth checking out!
They sell Polish prepared foods out of their deli (salads, soups, fried stuff I can pronounce, etc), they've a small selection of normal canned groceries, milk, etc, and even the stuff in their freezer is fresh! I like that I never really worry about getting "old" product here, it's busy, stocked
