Puritan Bakery
Founded in 1938, our bakery is a family-owned business that has been providing top quality buns and breads with superb service to our customers. Puritan Bakery is a full service bakery. While we may be most well-known for our hamburger buns (the "Best Buns in Town"), we offer a wide variety of exceptional quality bakery products.

We attribute our past, present and future success to staying true to our core values of providing only top quality products and superb service. Delivery of Top Quality Products -We cater to our customers' needs by customizing those products to their exact specifications.
Services
At Puritan, we are determined to provide you with the best customer service in the industry. If you ever have any questions or concerns, call us, you will always talk to someone -- no voicemails here. Our drivers are delivering bread fresh via direct store delivery (DSD), but if you run out or need extra, call us, we'll run a special delivery to your restaurant no matter how small or large the order.
It is our commitment to baking buns the old fashioned way-the way you would if you were making bread from scratch at home. Because of this commitment, we still use a sponge and dough process rather than the faster and cheaper brew dough, straight dough, or modified sponge systems. Our sponge and dough process takes 7 hours from start to finish; like a good wine, we allow the dough enough time to realize its full richness and taste.
We are honored to say that Puritan Bakery was built by the Greek community. Since John Markulis joined the company as a partner in 1965, much of our success can be attributed to our Greek friends. Most of us are known by our given names, but John Markulis is better known by his trade name--Yiannis O. Psomas.
Give us this day our daily bread. We bake a wide variety of delicious styles and sizes every morning, including oval, pullman and stub loaves. The stub is a short and fat loaf of bread specifically designed for restaurant style sandwiches. Puritan quality in every slice to accommodate any kind of sandwich.

For truckers - Show up on time only. They don't except early loads.
Parking isn't too bad other than a few obstacles. The place is also somewhat hidden by trees out front and there are no signs listed for receiving or shipping.
The surrounding streets and roadsides that could be used for parking, rest breaks, or overnight parking have signs posted for one hour parking and tow away zones. However, if you drive deep enough into the industrial parts, they're are some curbs you can park at. The curbside outside the plant is a fire zone (red curbs) and also a handicap parking spot. I wouldn't recommend

If you're making a delivery, back-in from the street, tight parking lot although fast service.

3 dollars a loaf seems to be a little high but they're large and thick slices. Friendly people, happy employees are all great signs. Bottom line, good bread and fine people.

Super unprofessional company. The sales rep is lost. The sales manager is rude. I want to know how you earn business with these types of behavior?

Totally Unacceptable! Really, their driver parks in front of the handicap parking spaces..... I believe this is not only rude but illegal. Driver was snide when confronted as well. If this is how their employees act in public I wonder how they act in the factory while they bake......

I too just saw a delivery driver in Encinitas smoking next to stacks of bread. How sad.
