Services
Sometimes, the time spent in the hospital is too short for a person's body to fully recover and they need a bridge between the hospital and home. For others, long-term care may be the best option to help them maintain their quality of life. Whatever the need, our resident centered care helps residents achieve and maintain their highest individual levels of physical and psycho-social function.
Shaker Place's rehabilitation department specializes in individualized physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapies. Our full-time, in house staff are trained in the most innovative and advanced techniques to guide residents back to their highest level of functioning.
We specialize in goal-oriented therapies, working with physicians and other care providers to create a comprehensive regimen to help residents recover from injury or illness, restore function and regain their independence. Our rehabilitation wing is designed as a separate unit within the facility to cater to the specific needs of our short-term rehabilitation residents.

Occupational Therapy is designed to help improve a person's ability to perform daily activities such as dressing, bathing, toileting, and eating. Occupational Therapy encourages rehabilitation through the performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). We include the homemaking skills necessary to return to independent living such as meal prep/kitchen tasks and laundry.
Physical Therapy helps patients in all phases of healing, from initial diagnosis through the restorative and preventive stages of recovery. Physical therapy may be a standalone option, or it may support other treatments. A common question we receive is, "How can physical therapy help my loved one in a nursing home?"
Shaker Place has a full time Medical Director on staff to oversee all residents, manage complex cases and meet with families to discuss treatment plans. Unlike other facilities, our medical director does not handle a daily caseload, allowing for a higher standard of care and an interdisciplinary approach.

We got to the point back in May 2021 of having to arrange nursing home care for our 84 year old mother. I cannot thank the entire staff at Shaker Place for the kindness, care and empathy they shared with my brothers and I during her stay. Mom passed away on Monday October 25th of 2021. Knowing that our Mom was receiving outstanding care even amidst the COVID situation was comforting. The communication from the administrative people, especially Amanda was so appreciated. She was patient with us and explained options and procedures in terms that were easy to understand. Every time one of us visited

I recently stayed at Shaker Place for ten days while my wife visited her family in Florida. I have ALS and the staff was very attentive to my needs. I have a lot of challenges speaking and I am wheelchair bound. Everyone went out of their way to ensure I had safe and happy stay. I recommend this facility and will go there again if needed.

Certainly a upgrade from many years ago, a job well done, the residents are absolutely amazing wonderful and delightful. Some of the staff are truly welcoming and kind the nursing director Rebecca not pleasant at all in fact rude ignorant and doesn’t know how to communicate, by holding a title she feels very superior to all, she needs a lesson in communication and must know she can’t speak to people how she sees fit, she’s gonna approach someone who well won’t be so kind….. respect is both given and earned disgusting and bitter taste for her!!!!!! As far as a place to work very short

Dear Mr. Slatky, Doctors, Nurses, CNA's and entire staff at Shaker Place:
I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally get the opportunity to visit my mother on 09/22/2020, since COVID interrupted all of our lives, back in March 2020. I appreciated all the professionalism, strict guidelines and precautions you are taking to make sure the residents, staff and visitors stay safe. I was also excited to see the staff, that I missed so much, too! I really could have cried. They have truly become like a second family.
My mother has been a resident for almost 3 years, because of her Alzheimer's diagnosis

What an amazing transformation my workplace has gone through over the last two years. Spacious & airy, modern, light & bright resident rooms and common rooms. So much room for residents to spread out ! Privacy and modern amenities were clearly a top priority in the new design.
Strong administrative team, including nursing credentials that you don't always see in long term care. In addition to PT/OT, we also have a full time speech therapist and respiratory therapist. We also have a full time dedicated wound care nurse, infection control nurse, staff education team and medical director,

This place was formerly named Albany County Nursing Home. Years ago we placed a grandparent there. We took them out less than a month later because of neglect. So not surprised by the recent lawsuits (article headlines below - you can find full article by internet searching the headlines.) If you have a loved one here please PLEASE be sure to check in/visit with them often. Please note, you can submit complaints anonymously to NYS DOH (internet search NYS Complaints About Nursing Home Care and the website page should come up.)
