We are The Original San Francisco Sourdough. Today, we still bake our sourdough fresh every day using the same mother dough cultivated from a gold miner's sourdough starter. We have extended our love of San Francisco and our place in its culinary history to offer a full range of the dining options-from specialty breads and casual breakfast, lunch and dinner-to a full service dining experience at Fisherman's Wharf.
The discovery of gold at Sutter's Fort set off one of the largest mass migrations in history. People who became known as 49ers rushed to the area to mine for gold. It's believed that Isidore Boudin received the mother dough from one of these 49ers. Boudin commits to mother dough.

I been here couple times and it always have been good, but today the clam chowder wasn’t as good as it used to be, salty, and way too thick.
I noticed this time it wasn’t as busy at before, i remember on a Sunday afternoon it was packed, line to order was long and there was no tables available now it has changed a lot.

This is a sourdough bread lovers dream. This rating is from my daughter whose favorite thing in the world is sourdough bread. She now is spoiled because she doesn't like any other sourdough bread except for theirs. She got the garlic sourdough bread aided at the restaurant took it back to the hotel and ate it the next morning for breakfast because she didn't want to waste it. It was that good. This restaurant is right on the water so it also has a great view.

There is a ground floor Caffertia as well as a top floor restaurant. I went to the Cafe, and got the iconic clam chowder bread blow. Well worth the $13 for the meal, if you eat the bowl (which you should totally do.. else what's the point 😅😂) Then you will be very full and happy 😊 . The chowder is nice think and creamy with a little fishy toast, but not too fish like some chowder. Bread is a soft chewy slightly sour bread. Goes great together. Nice thing is the place is open late even on a Sunday!!

Boudin was one of the places on my list of places to try in San Francisco, particularly the clam chowder sourdough bread bowl. It definitely lived up to its hype and was a satisfying meal for my first proper lunch in the city. We also ordered tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches which were just as delicious. If I were to come back, I would try the tomato soup in a bread bowl. The restaurant was very busy since it was in a central area of Fisherman’s Wharf, but all the staff knew what they were doing and knew how to keep things moving at a good pace so we didn’t have to wait too long.

Boudin was an excellent venue on Fisherman’s Wharf to enjoy excellent bread bowls with a great view of the water and a good ambience in a bustling area of the city.
For COVID, they do check vaccinations if you plan to eat inside. Otherwise, you can order on the ground floor and eat outside.
The bread bowls are what they are most famous for. While the clam chowder is good, the crab chowder is a must. Thick chunks of fresh crabmeat are immersed in a beautifully warm and tasty soup. All of this is placed inside a soft sourdough bread bowl.
They give the top of the bowl in the side which makes

I’m so happy we choose this place it was incredible! The best sourdough I’ve ever had so fresh and fluffy and the outside crispy and chewy just the way it’s meant to be! 😋 I wish I lived closer so I could bring some of the beard home! 🥖🍞
Loved the bread bowl very rich and filling I def couldn’t eat even half. I wish it was a bit more crab cause it was so good!🦀❤️
Same with the artichoke dip like maybe a little bit more crab or even cheese cause it was a little too strong of just artichoke.
Great sandwich the sourdough compliments the sweet crab so well!🦀
Best sidecar

Getting fresh sourdough in San Francisco is a must!! The store is decorated with loaves of bread in cute animal shapes. There's different lines depending on what you're in the market for, buying a loaf of bread or soups/sandwiches, etc. Bakers can be watched shaping the dough. Nice outdoor dining area (a little crowded) but prime people watching. We had to get classic New England Clam Chowder, crab salad sandwich and turkey avocado sandwiches. Everyone left happy and satisfied.

Bodine bakery is a must to see. There were tons of people in there but they seem to be able to accommodate everyone. There is a Cafe (you can order food at the counter and either take it to go or site outside) that had loaves of bread you can just buy as well. The restaurant itself has seating downstairs and up. If you just want to see the museum, just tell the maitre d and he will be happy to direct you upstairs where the museum is as well which is always free. It's a great museum that has a lot more information than I expected. There is also a viewing area up there where you can watch the bakers
