The comforting aroma of Italian bread baking in an oven. The idyllic scene of a small, two-story, brick building housing a bakery down by the river. The unbridled enthusiasm of three young Sicilian men, who dreamed of making their fortune by baking the best Italian bread for miles around and selling it to friends and neighbors.
Sounds like an old-world scenario direct from the streets of Italy, doesn't it? In fact, that scenario describes the 1923 founding of the Roma Bakery in Kansas City, Missouri. Needing a way to support themselves and their families in this new land, they searched their life experiences for something they could offer the people of Kansas City.

I'm from Omaha and they have some really good neighborhood bread stores and I buy Roma because it reminds me of one of the Omaha places. We went into the Roma retail store and I saw Rotellas products on the shelf so we asked the man working about it. So Rotellas from Omaha sends their bread down nightly to Roma. They partnered in 1995. The Vienna bread, brioche and hot dog buns are great. They've got every type of bread or bun you could need at ridiculously cheap prices. Great find and got a little history along the way.

We have loved eating this bread for many years! Within the last 6 months the quality and taste of the bread has diminished. Our latest loaf of honey wheat is more like white bread. The texture is more like cheap discount store bread. Unfortunately, we are now looking for a new wheat bread. So disappointed.

I've driven by Roma hundreds of time, but never stopped. I don't live near by, and only go if I'm in the area. I visited it for my first time today.
It's very small, but smells wonderful. They had all their bread discounted, and the staff knew everything on the shelves. The unique selection was difficult to decide which to buy. There was one of about everything Roma has.
I selected black hamburger buns(they had a customer who wanted black buns for Halloween, so they added black food coloring to the buns.) And their famous Italian bread. The buns were only .99. I mean, we needed

I'm SO glad I live close to Roma. I saw it there for years before I realized they have an outlet store, and now I rarely by bread anyplace else. Not only can you buy their standard stuff for 75 cents a package, but they also have some really good specialty loaves like marble rye, 9-grain, and ciabatta; some of those are $1, some are more expensive, but less than the primo stuff at the grocery store. The staff are incredibly nice, and it's never crowded, so you're in and out in no time. Well, if they'd finish fixing Chouteau Trafficway...
