Our 100-hour Embodyoga-based training for yoga teachers provides an in-depth study and certification. Mindful Yoga Therapy is an empirically informed, clinically tested program comprised of five practices: Pranayama (breathing), Asana (postures connected with breath), Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Gratitude.
Each practice is a tool that men and women recovering form PTSD can use to form a comprehensive system-a toolbox-that will carry them into a life of strength and resilience. Yoga practices are a powerful complement to professional treatment for PTSD. A mindful, embodied yoga practice can provide relief from symptoms and develop the supportive skills that our clients need in their everyday lives.

Services
Helping Veterans and their families find a calm and steady body/mind to continue productive and peaceful lives through the support of the mindful practices of yoga and education. Mindful Yoga Therapy (MYT) is the product of Suzanne Manafort, a yoga teacher with decades of experience, looking for a way to give back to society.
The Mindful Yoga Therapy Practice Guide, now in its fifth printing, is a collection of simple but effective yoga practices developed by the authors through practical and clinical experience working with veterans coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other psycho-emotional stress. While benefiting trauma patients safely and comfortably, the practices can also be used by anyone dealing with stress.
Mindful Yoga Therapy Yoga Nidra is clinically tested and empirically informed. Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a system of progressive relaxation. In ever-growing numbers, people are turning to yoga to relieve the stress and strain of modern life and find enhanced well-being and joy. This vast practice invites us back into ourselves, allowing us to experience the peace that can be found within.
For many of us, the practices of yoga have changed our lives. That statement may seem dramatic, but it's true. These practices teach us to turn inward, to pay attention, and to notice without judgment. They enable us to find balance in our bodies and minds, as well as develop our overall well-being.
Ann Richardson Stevens, creator, has been working with men and women living with mobility disabilities for nearly 10 years. This program brings to life the MYT guiding principles in an adaptive setting. Learn how to help students find their mind-body connection. The MYT Adaptive Program provides a variety of tools, discussion, and asana to open the practice of yoga practice to Every Body-whether hobbling, rolling, or walking into class.

Wanted to sign up for a specific training and called them repeatedly but they never answered phone. When I emailed them to inquire they seemed hesitant to communicate. Finally they emailed that the training was to be rescheduled for sometime in next year. The next year came and they emailed me the training date. Again, I called them to inquire of details over five times and no one answered. They called back once or twice when I was working. Then I went onto their website to look for the new training and it was canceled-after I had taken unpaid time off of work to take the course. Again, no returned

The instructor was nice. I didn't go for a few months so they canceled my class card that had 9 out of 10 classes left. They did this without notice and without a refund. They didn't tell me it would expire when I bought it. When I told them that I would share my experience they accused me of "threatening" them. If me sharing my honest experience is "threatening" then maybe you should re-think your customer experience. Not the de-stressing experience I expected out of yoga. They actually caused me a lot of stress. I get the vibe that they hate men. BTW most if not all of the positive reviews are

Definitely my favorite place to practice yoga. This is a place where the teachers actually teach, not just stand in front of a classroom and show off. Suzanne has trained most of the teachers herself to actually go engage with the students as part of a (very respectful) hands on tradition. Ashtanga has a big place at Newington Yoga Center, but if you want to try something different give the Embodyoga classes a shot.
Newington is also very friendly to men, and classes like Friday night Embodyoga are usually 50/50 male and female, so guys looking for a place to try out yoga should feel comfortable

I have been a supporter of Newington Yoga Center since its inception; I've been a student of Suzanne since before her studio opened. Suzanne Manafort is an extremely knowledgeable yoga teacher and the instructors who teach at the studio are embodiments of her teaching style and manner.
Wether you are looking for a beginner's class, a more vigorous "power" class, or even a class to help you with trauma related stress, I highly recommend you give Newington Yoga Center a try.

I have been practicing at Newington Yoga Center since 2013 and recently completed the 200 hour Embodyoga Teacher Training. The staff are top notch and really care about their students. There is a wonderful feeling of acceptance at the center regardless of age, body type, race, religion, you name it - all are welcome. The staff are all dedicated to making sure that each student gets the most out of their experience. I would highly recommend this center to anyone interested in learning about yoga and developing their own personal practice.
