Clearly the management must pay for all these good reviews because this is the WORST place I have ever stayed at. My boyfriend lives there and I stayed with him on Monday night and two people were shot practically right at our front door early Tuesday morning (October 26, 2021). He woke up from the gunshots. And then the management wants to send out an email to all its residents saying that it was in the vicinity of the complex when I saw the guy lying on the floor from down the stairs and police all over? Just a few days earlier I heard multiple gunshots myself. The gates are always wide open

BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES WHEN MOVING OUT!
Living at San Portella was amazing until it was time to move out.
My roommate and I lived here during 2019 - 2021. We enjoyed the newly renovated unit and the amenities. San Portella is definitely on the pricier end and continues to increase each year.
Upon moving out we were faced with unforeseen charges that didn't not make any sense. These charges left a remaining of $250 from our $500 deposit. I have been living in apartments since 2012 and have always received a full refund on my security deposit.
Through email conversation we were informed

I never leave reviews it’s not my thing. i hate writing bad reviews but i am so frustrated with this apartment complex.don’t get me wrong it’s a beautiful complex. the pools beautiful and the outside. but the management is terrible. my spouse who is on the lease has communicated his issues many many times. they have left a huge hole in our bathroom ceiling after a water leakage and never came back to fix it and it’s been months along with all the other issues. they won’t come and fix a broken closet mirror so we’re stepping on glass constantly. our dishwasher is broken and molded. they

I’ve lived here for a few months on an work assignment and they staff is AMAZING! Brenda the manager was very welcoming and gave my pups little bandanas, Conner introduced me to “Thirsty Thursdays” at the leasing office, Sydney is super sweet and helpful, and Casey the maintenance guy is always on top of everything! There’s always social events going on to keep the community together. The pool is amazing with, grills, cabanas, and kombucha on tap! By far the best apartment I’ve ever live in.

I recently moved to San Portella apartments and all I can say is that this location makes you feel like you are in a resort. There is plenty of open and assigned parking. The apartment itself is very spacious. I am in a 2bed 2 bath apartment and the layout is perfect. The actual complex itself makes me feel like I am on vacation. The pool is a resort style pool with plenty of cabanas and they have 3 different kombuchas on tap for the residents. The fitness center has new equipment. The gym is small but it has everything you need to get a good workout in. Overall I would recommend this place to

It's a bummer to see so many negative reviews, as I have lived here for a year and absolutely love it. Lots of people are knocking the staff members, which is just not fair. The front office staff are all friendly and upbeat. They are always happy to help me when I have questions.
Overall, this is a great place to live. Yes, it's pricey, but your money goes a long way. The gym is great, pool and hot tub are nice, the location is excellent, and the staff are friendly. I really enjoy living here.

We blindly moved to San Portella from Iowa during the middle of Covid. We did have ups and downs as far as the old office staff is concerned. 4 property managers in our year there and no one seemed to care about our concerns other than the latest property manager Brenda. In her short time there, she has taken our concerns and issues seriously and has done everything in her power to remedy any issues they we had. She is taking initiative to listen to tenants and turn San Portella around and make it what it should be. She is a great addition to San Portella and the company is lucky to have her. I

My Wife and I were touring apartments and San Portella really stood out. At first we were impressed by the amazing pool and the upgrades finishes. But what really solidified our decision to move here, was Connor from the office staff. His personality and willingness to help really sold us on this complex. He was very kind, attentive, and helped us with everything we needed from our out of state relocation. If you need a reason to move here, Connor is the reason. Ever since the new management took over recently, everything has been perfect. Better energy and very friendly staff. Joe, the groundskeeper is very nice as well. Every time I see him he is always in a good mood and working hard.
The grounds is always kept up nicely. The work out room and pool is very nice as well.

I have been looking for a beautiful, safe, enjoyable place for my family and I to move into. I haven't even moved into San Portella yet but wanted to write a review because my experience visiting and the property was amazing.
The office staff was so friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to answer all of my questions. The property manager Ashley was very receptive when listening to what we are looking for in an apartment complex and also really took the time to answer any and all questions we had while showing us around the property.

I live at San Portella and I have to say one of the best places I have rented at! The office staff is very friendly and professional and get any issues taken care of in a timely manner. The community is beautiful and kept up. If you're looking for community to live at San Portella is the one! It's centrally located which makes is easy to get to any city near by. I would recommend this place to anyone!

I have been looking around the Tempe area for quite some time with out any luck. I stumbled across this gem because of the scenic mountain by it. I parked and walked in and was greeted promptly by whom I assumed was the manager. Her name was Jessie. She was very knowledgeable about the area and seemed very professional when it came to the details about the dimensions of all the units. During my hunt at other locations, it always felt like I was an inconvenience to the leasing agents. I felt like a burden. Jessie made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Seems like it if i were to have any issues

I stayed here on a 6 month lease in 2019. I lived in a lot of places in AZ and this was the best. Rent wasn't the cheapest for a 1-bedroom; It was $1299 for 482 sq ft. But I liked how the area around it was walkable, including there being a Starbucks nearby. Also, I appreciated working with the front office, as they were very helpful and professional in the end. (In the beginning, I was told incorrect information or not told important information at all with the old staff. The folks there post-remodel were more knowledgeable and professional.)

Here for the school year or looking for a property that values resident safety and security? You might want to pass on San Portella.
Although there are signs posted touting San Portella is part of Tempe's Crime-Free Multi-Housing Program, management staff stated that they actually aren't in compliance with that program that's designed to reduce crime, drug, gang, and illegal activity. They'll be removing the signs.... Eventually. I'm sure that it will be quicker than they fix the broken lights in the parking lot..... Maybe.

This place is an ongoing nightmare.
Primarily, the staff the is operating this place on a daily basis IS the problem.
For starters, It took me 2 weeks to get an additional set of keys. With a complete lack of communication, the office girls failed to properly communicate with one another to accommodate getting me a separate set of keys. This led to me needing to sleep in my car every day after work until my wife got home with the kids.
The cabanas located at the pool seem pretty nice. However, the TVs did not work without a remove. There is no signage in the cabana on how to obtain remotes.

This place was great when it was a Pillar community. Lived here over 2 years and will not be renewing my lease. Rent is going up 30%, with several additional charges and they are charging the same high rates for renovated and non-renovated apartments. Not impressed by the new staff at all. It's a real unorganized and unprofessional company. Since the new owner and management took over, there have been more loud disturbances overnight. Looking forward to leaving and renting with a Pillar community.
