Back Alley Bike Repair
Get on your bike! Most bike lanes in the city remain accessible and are not scheduled to close throughout construction projects. Stop by Back Alley after 9am Monday thru Friday and fill your tires up for free. Our full service work shop can handle all repairs. If you're able to drop off your bike with us in the morning, chances are we'll get it back to you in time for your commute home.

Of course, there are some exceptions, but in the event that we have to special order something for you or do a custom build, we have super fast turn-around times. Let's face it, year round commuting in Seattle is tough on wheels. Whether you load up your rear rack and bomb down Jackson St, take the Dexter Ave superhighway every which way, navigate the downtown hills, or go spinning around Mercer Island, your wheels are what you depend on.
Services
All repairs are handled by highly-trained bike mechanics on-site so your bike never leaves the shop. Because our service mechanics work on customer bikes Monday through Friday, we can promise speedy repairs, rebuilds and upgrades. Centrally located in historic Pioneer Square just off Jackson Street and 1st Avenue in the alley adjacent to Temple Billiards.
We are stoked to have procured an exceptional selection of Bridgestone bikes for rent, including a touring model, a sporty X0-5, an RB-2 or two, a classic mixte, and more. Make your Seattle experience complete! Centrally located in historic Pioneer Square just off Jackson Street and 1st Avenue in the alley adjacent to Temple Billiards.
Join us in Pioneer Square to celebrate the completion of Nord Alley and Pioneer Passage! Both alleys now feature beautiful new brick surfaces and improved stormwater drainage systems. Let's kick off the new and improved alleys with music and art from local artists. Stroll the alleys and visit the adjacent businesses during April's First Thursday Artwalk and help us celebrate this exciting achievement.

Came in for a brake adjustment/pad replacement last week, super experienced team and fair prices brought me back to buy some bike locks.
The bike lock I purchased had some issues with the factory code and they immediately swapped it out for a new one.
Great customer service & cool people make for an awesome bike shop experience. This is my go to place for all things bicycles.

Had a flat. Brought it in no appointment, and they fixed it quickly with no problem. They are also very helpful with recommending gear options without being too pushy. I got some very nice and reliable bike lights from them.

These folks are always helpful and respectful, regardless of your needs or experience level. That goes for a quick bolt replacement or a more involved tuneup or repair. I go out of my way to bring my bike here, that's how good their customer service is.

Was in a super tight spot regarding a bike service and called all around and no body could fit me in or know how to help. I called Ben and he instantly said yeah bring it in. Backstory: I was heading out for a bikepacking trip later that day. Ben fixed my hydraulic brakes and did a few other things to make my ride safer. Can't thank those guys enough for getting me in, given my situation. Will be my new go to in Seattle. Thanks again guys!

Didn’t have a bike with me on this visit so I cannot speak about their repair services. However they seem to have a good eye for art, design and I appreciate the use of cats on their signage. The alley to access is also well maintained and clean which indicates a certain civic pride to me.

Love this place! I popped my tire and had to roll it to the closest shop. The first shop wasn't helpful at all and luckily my friend and I found this small little shop. Both staff members were so friendly, though they didn't have the right tube size for my bike my friend found another shop and trekked there to buy the tube and brought it back to… Back Alley. The staff member jumped right on it and changed the tube within 15 minutes. I can't believe the urgency they have with their customers! I felt so happy I had to buy something else besides paying for labor, I noticed they had cool handmade

Had to catch a bus to portland but need a couple fixes to my bike. I told Ben my time constraint, 30 minutes, and he was able to fix the stuff I need as well as answer my questions along the way, working efficiently and quickly. Really fantastic business.

I think your politics are backwards and I don’t plan on patronizing your shop anymore. I want to support businesses that are interested and support innovative true solutions to our community’s problems. As someone who has worked in the criminal justice system for years, your policy ideas will not work. Please take time to educate yourself on… evidenced-based criminal justice practices that actually solve root causes instead of just creating a revolving door of expensive, racially/economically biased and punitive practices that do nothing to actually reduce crime. Best of luck

Thanks, guys! I biked for the first time today and had a flat on the way in. They helped pump up the tire, checked it and fixed a problem that kept making the chain fall off when I was biking. So nice and accommodating without an appointment and it was all $10.

Excellent service and they don't talk down to you even if you don't know everything about bikes. They built a gorgeous Soma Fog Cutter bike for me this summer and it was a great experience. They helped me find the best parts and were patient in answering a multitude of questions. Highly recommend this shop for a bike build and/or any repairs.

Based on a recommendation I went to these guys for a tune-up and the service was awesome. Two dudes running a bike shop and you can really tell they care about bikes and the people who ride them.

I had started looking for what I wanted in a new bike and wasn't satisfied with what was available through the other shops. So i spoke with Ben and Julian and they guided me through the process of having a bike built. They listened to what I wanted and help me fill in the gaps on things I wasn't sure about. The greatest thing is that they were just as stoked as I was about the whole process

Don't be fooled - Back Alley Bike Repair does a lot more than just it's namesake! Ben and Julian are passionate, talented dudes who love bikes and the people that ride them. Aside from the bike repair, which seems to be the focus of all the other reviews, let me tell you about how BABR sets itself apart in my mind.

Ben provides a service that I feel a lot of bike shops don't - he listens. I go into the shop with an idea of what I want, and he makes it happen. I've had two balleur wheelsets built by him and I couldn't be happier. Late last year, I was looking for a new
