My name is Johanna, and I am the baker/owner of Defloured. I'm not gluten intolerant, but was born with a very large (and overly demanding) sweet tooth. Aside from this genetic disposition, I deeply believe everyone has the right to dessert. I am a self-taught baker, baking since I was able to reach the counter tops.
I felt the urge to bake in my hands and was driven not only by my sweet tooth, but by the anticipation of that first, second, third taste of cookie batter, or if it ever made it that far, the finished product. Making good old fashion desserts gluten free is a challenge I am up to and I love the idea of providing goodies that were once seen as something gluten intolerant individuals may have to go without.

First off, LOVE Defloured's stuff. It's so hard to find good gluten free baked goods. That being said, they need to find a better way of doing business right now. You can't enter the shop due to COVID, so you have to wait outside. There was only one other person with me and we were outside for about 10 minutes, in 12 degree weather plus wind chill. If you're going to have your customers wait outside for that long, at least have a heater.. I won't be back until the weather allows.

By far the best gluten free bakery in the city, and even possibly one of the best bakeries in the city in general! The options seemed endless and I had an incredibly hard time choosing what I wanted. In the end I got the salted peanut oatmeal chocolate chip with peanut buttercream sandwich cookie, puck of love (their version of a ding dong), and a pack of the take n' bake cinnamon rolls. Everything was absolutely delicious. I've tried my fair share of gluten free cinnamon rolls and its definitely one of the harder to perfect -- but these were incredibly gooey and shaped up just like a

Amazing! Found this little gem online while looking for gluten-free cinnamon buns for our Christmas in Chicago ( I have a daughter who has celiac disease). We bought take and bake cinnamon buns, brownies and iced cookies with edible paint to decorate them with. Talk about a home run! Everything was fantastic. If you are looking for THE BEST gluten free bakery, this is it!

Absolutley spectacular is an understatement. We all have had bad gluten free deserts for ages but not here this is a true gem. I have yet to have one thing I don't like from here but I'll strongly recommend the peanut butter bar, magic bar and all the cookies. I am getting a cake for Christmas and look forward to surprising guests after I tell them it's gluten free. Strong recommendation and worth a trip from anywhere in the 606.

The most delicious cake period! I have not had such smooth flavors in a long time now. My husband was upset that we hadn’t ordered from this place for his birthday! It was super delicious and I did not feel heavy after eating a big portion of the cake. Thanks guys for making this special day so great!

Amazing gluten free bakery! I was introduced defloured when I was starting to shift to GF due to digestion issues and didn't give the fact that they were GF a second thought. They're just overall a great bakery GF or not! Their lemon bars are to die for - my sister in law just had them and several other sweet treats at their wedding and people just devoured everything.

I found Defloured a couple of years ago when my husband was hospitalized. He was taken great care of by his nurse. My husband, when ill, is not easy to please and can be very high strung. I know his nurse had to put up with a lot so I wanted to show my gratitude by getting her a dessert. I asked her if she liked sweets but later discovered she has a gluten allergy.
Knowing this I was challenged to find a gluten free bakery. Yelp came to the rescue and led me to Defloured. It hit all the marks and it was close to home. I made the 15 minute ride to Andersonville to check out the goods and place

I recently became gluten free for health reasons after having been vegan for a long time. I can't believe how lucky I am to have found defloured. I have tried the vegan cupcakes, brownies and cookie sandwiches and they are all DELICIOUS. If you are vegan and gluten-free, this place is going to make you very happy!

I don't know what kind of sorcery these magical bakers use, but their goods are AMAZING!! I picked a cookie because it looked tasty and didn't pay much attention until after I purchased it, that not only was it gluten free it was also vegan. I am not a vegan person, but after that melt in your mouth amazing cookie, I might reconsider.
If you eat gluten free or vegan or not, this bakery is very well worth your time.

We are visiting from out of town and wanted to stop and get some gluten free goodies, but they were closed for training and inventory. One of the workers saw us standing outside and came out to greet us. We let her know we had stopped by after seeing the review in Lonely Planet. We showed her the book and she was so excited that she gave us some free goodies! It was so sweet and thoughtful, and a delicious treat for our walk through Andersonville!

Such a gem! This cute bakery has such great sweets for everyone ( vegan friendly & other options). Every treat that they have is also turned into a vegan alternative. They didn't have everything on their menu available at the time. I tried their cookie sandwiches & their brownies + the vegan one, & none of them were overly sweet!

So days after the bakery's response to my first review about the staff non mask compliance, the bakery just so happened to be closed for several days due to a "covid scare." In an attempt to give it one last chance I made a purchase upon reopening as I truly want to support this place. The crumb cake and millionaire bar tasted stale (freezer burnt type taste is the best way to describe). Also were dry. THEN a couple weeks later I walk by to see ANOTHER baker unmasked. After being assured by the owner it had been addressed in my last post. No matter the state of COVID and vaccinations

Defloured is now my annual birthday cake spot! I appreciate all of the ways they can accommodate a variety of allergies and food intolerances. The only place I can get a delicious, beautiful cake that is gluten free, dairy free, AND corn free...hard to find! My family and I are always happy with the cakes we've ordered here.

Six years ago I got to try the best GF red velvet I have ever had and it started an obsession with defloured! Since then we have gotten our wedding cake, my sisters wedding cake gf/df ( and my brother in law is extremely picky about his dairy free treats but is obsessed also), birthday cakes, trays of bars for all our parties. Lots of cookies cake pops Whoopi pies, I have yet to find anything I didn’t love. The owner and staff are always Amazing!!! Most recently we got our son his first birthday cake it was fantastic!

What?! No flour?! How are you able to make pastries that good without the stuff that is needed to make them taste good? Must be magic and I just have to accept it and eat it. You know they are skilled at what they do when relatively healthier choices taste like very bad choices. It's like that faux leather made of cactus that looks and feels even better that the real thing. Humane pastries - because you don't have to feel guilty to eat them.
Sorry, no photo to share, ate them too fast.

The lemon riccota cookie is heavenly. Light and fluffy and almost having a cookie dough consistency. Full of flavor and not super sweet. Also got the lemon blueberry loaf. Super interesting. The staff here is super nice and ready to help explain what all of their tasty looking treats are full of. Great place for anyone with dietary restrictions of all kinds or someone just looking to try something different

Nothing bad to say about this place! Quality of the baked goods are off the charts AND the staff is insanely kind. I was late picking up my order and they stayed open so I could swing by and grab them, how nice is that?!? Can't speak for the items that aren't vegan, but everything vegan I have tried is an A+
Thank you, Defloured!

This bakery is amazing. Everything they make here is scrumptious and so good. We had the chocolate cake, carrot cake, cookies, cookie bars, and other wonderful baked goods. You can't go wrong. I love it that you can order online and pick up. Parking can be hard to find around the area but man, it's worth taking a trip to Defloured and give in to the sweet tooth.

Holy gluten free goodness, Batman! This place is amazing! We went on a short field trip to Defloured today to order my birthday cake and sample some goodies. I can't believe I never tried Defloured before - what in the world is wrong with me (aside from Celiacs)?!?
My birthday cake was easily ordered with the guidance of a super helpful employee (maybe the owner) who clearly shared my love of all thing chocolate and peanut butter. We also ordered a few things to try out until next weeks cake fest: a vegan oat cream pie, a Nutella sandwich cookie with espresso buttercream, a pumpkin chocolate

100% gluten free bakery in the heart of Andersonville. They have loads of vegan options too so great if you’re dairy/egg intolerant too. I had my first ever Ding Dong here and the Zucchini Chocolate Chip mini Bundt cake is to die for - moist and delicious! Highly recommended for all Coeliac’s in Chicago

Yes, I'm a vegan. Yes, I eat plants. I eat lots of plants. Every day. Yes, I care about my health. But you know what? Sometimes, you just gotta have something sweet and delicious. Not some crappy Hershey's bar, but something that is quality, that satisfies that little craving a middle-aged girl like me has.
I admit, I never considered visiting Defloured, because I thought it offered strictly gluten-free bakery items. That, to me, meant everything had butter and eggs, and there's no way I'm going to start consuming that stuff again. Then, I parked on Balmoral Avenue, walked
