Grieving is a process of learning how to live in a changed world. When someone we love has died, or a relationship has ended, we are challenged to relearn how to be with ourselves, our families and our friends. We relearn and redefine our relationships with time, space and spirit.
We are faced with coping and managing painful feelings, and with the task of creating new systems of meaning that allow us to live with joy and purpose in spite of our losses.I met with Ben Cirlin about seven times for individual therapy. With ease and a quiet intelligence Ben would ask how I was faring on a day to day level.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) refers to each person's internal community, or "family" of parts. Very often, our internal systems become organized around emotional pain, and how to manage it. We will work with you to release pain, calm down problem areas and problem behaviors, and restore your original joy in life.
I have been a Clinical Psychologist for 37 years, and I continue to be enriched, challenged and personally deepened by my work with individuals and couples. My therapeutic style is to be active, engaged and empathic. I explore the past, ask questions about the present, and collaborate with my clients to brainstorm solutions for the future as I work to help people find meaning and purpose in their lives.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful psychotherapeutic practice initially developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980's to treat troubling symptoms of trauma and post traumatic stress disorder. It has been used worldwide since then to help clients come to terms with a wide variety of troubling conditions and problems.

I had a really wonderful experience with group bereavement counseling (virtually via zoom) with the Center for Loss & Renewal. I signed up for the program for adults who have lost parents after losing my dad about 7 months prior. I found it to be a really welcoming, warm, and safe space that was able to facilitate my healing that much more. Ben is a skilled facilitator and the exercises he guides you through all have value in helping you process and move forward. I especially appreciated that some of the projects we participated in produced tangible 'products' that I could keep to help me remember

I joined the 8 week group program to receive support for the loss of a parent. Ben provided a safe place in a group setting all remotely for all of us to process our grief. The group was very structured and we had homework which I found very helpful and incredibly grounding to help process emotions. I did have difficulty completing a couple assignments but it was met with compassion and understanding. Overall the experience was very helpful. We had wonderfully supportive group members. I have recommended this place to my doctors to recommend for patients as well as a friend who recently lost her

During the most difficult of times the Center for Loss and Renewal gave me a safe space to share and feel supported. Benyamin was a wonderful leader throughout and guided and helped me through some difficult sessions. I really would recommend this center to anyone going through the pain of grief and loss.

I recently lost a loved one and I'm overwhelmed with grief. I found info for this place when doing a search online. I contacted them via email after reading the positive reviews. Today, I spent the majority of my time making funeral arrangements and I'm mentally drained. I just received a call from someone who asked for me by name. When I asked who was calling, I heard, "Center for Loss and..." I couldn't hear the person clearly and asked if he could tell me what exactly it is that they do. The person replied, with a sinister chuckle, "Ok" and then hung up the phone. This was very rude and if it

I attended Ben's bereavement group for adult children who have recently lost a parent (my father had passed away 6 months prior due to complications from lymphoma). I can't put into words how beneficial the experience was.
Ben's guidance throughout was very helpful: he encouraged us to approach the different facets and stages of loss one step at a time, breaking down the immense task of grieving into more manageable (albeit difficult) steps.
Being in an environment with other people experiencing something similar was critical to abating the sense of loneliness I was experiencing; hearing them

After losing my partner of 10 years, I immediately knew that I would need counseling and someone who would listen as I unburdened myself of all the dark and obsessive thoughts concerning the circumstances of the death. I had lists of therapists from various sources, along with some personal recommendations, and Ben's name came up often. Although it was August in NYC -- when therapists, shrinks, and all related types disappear on vacation for a month (this is not an urban legend, it's true!) -- Ben responded and made time to meet with me immediately. I was so distraught that I asked for two appointments

I participated in an 8 week bereavement group with Ben. The experience was wonderful. It was great to be able to hear others who have also experienced loss. Ben's style for leading was excellent. He is very knowledgeable, caring, comforting and knows how to ask the right questions. The weekly homework assignments were a great supplement to our weekly meetings. I highly recommend the bereavement group.

Just completed the 8 week group with Ben and I'm so glad I did it. It was comforting to be able to share my experience with others who are going through the same thing. I found the exercises to be enlightening and the group discussions to be very helpful. I highly recommend this for anyone who has lost a parent - even if you aren't struggling with the loss. It's a great way to reflect on an important relationship.

I recently completed an 8-week support group program with Ben at the Center for Loss & Renewal. I went in to this program with a heavy heart of losing both of my parents (3 years ago and 1.5 years ago) and was able to come out of it a lot happier than expected. I am able to live my life again, feel like myself again and feel that sense of freedom I haven't felt in years (since before my Mom got sick). The support group were non-judgmental, and the best part of it was that I made new friends who were also of young age like me.
Ben is caring, calm and kind. This program definitely helped me overcome
