I've been coming to Vientian since I was in high school and it's definitely always been a hit or miss in the food quality and today it was sadly a miss for me.
I ordered the angel wings, kasoy, and mango sticky rice. I thought the wings were way more sweet than usual. I think the proportion for the kasoy got bigger that or the bowl was just huge and it was an illusion but honestly there was a lot of noodles but hardly any meat in it. It was a bit bland and I tried adding more spices to it but couldn

The dishes were packed with so much flavor. With mild for pad thai and phad siew, it was just the perfect amount of spice and really enhances the dishes. However, the noodles didn't hold very well and were mostly in pieces. The nam kao was still crispy even after a long drive. The angel wings were small in size but pretty good. The mango sticky rice is definitely the highlight dish. The creamy coconut rice paired soooo good with the sweet mango.

I used to come here all the time when it was the younger couple working here they was always attentive to there customers making sure everything was good the food was always delicious and if you needed something and they didn't have it they made it since these are things that are on the menu. Now there's another lady working there that I haven't seen and ever since she's been there its like everything has been downhill the attitude in the atmosphere is horrible and when ever the young kid is there he don't seem to happy anymore so his attitude is rubbing off the wrong way he doesn't check on his

Came in once to try, came back 3 more times the same week. Tasting one item makes you want to see if everything else on the menu is just as good. All very generous portions, everything tasty 💯.
Some things you won't get by just looking at the menu:
- Cuban sandwich comes with fries.
- Try the empanadas with the pesto sauce.
- Roasted pork is similar to carnitas.
- Sauces are homemade.
- When choosing between green or red hot sauce, the answer is "yes". Both add a considerable kick, but not to the point of being unenjoyable.
- The side salad is lettuce, tomato, mint and avocado. SIDE salad

I've been coming here since high school and some things aren't as good as it used to be. It doesn't look like where a restaurant should be but it's worth a try. There are specific things I always get. I always get their nam kao, angel wings, larb and kasoy! Their nam kao is always super crunchy even when I pick it up late sometimes. Their larb is spicy even though I always order mild so beware!! Their kasoy and angel wings are always good so I recommend getting these.
Their fried rice and noodle dishes aren't as good as they used to be. I haven't gotten any

This restaurant is honestly quite hidden, not in your traditional commercial district. It can also be hard to find parking here, but at the moment, they're only offering takeout due to the p-word.
Staff was extremely kind, they helped me guide my nut allergies as I ordered the nam khao and khao soy. Nam khao was crispy and the diced meat was quite tender. It was my first time having Laotian food, and I hope it always tastes this way. It was also good to know that this traditionally is made with nuts for that extra crunch, but even without it, the crispy rice was good enough for me.

Is this the best deal in the Bay Area?? Hella delicious laotian food, at super reasonable prices. It's in a residential neighborhood, so parking isn't too much of an issue.
Pickup only during these times. Was able to order online, and the food was ready exactly on time. Note they have two websites, but the one to order is: https://www.vientiancafe.com/
We got the following:
Kao Piak (Starchy chicken noodle soup)
Papaya Salad (mild has a little kick to it, we're wimps!)
Lao Sausage " Sai Ooa" (I think Pork sausage, stuffed with a ton of herbs -- not your typical sausage

Food: 9.5/ 10
Service: N/A pick up only right now
Value: 8/10
Portion size: medium
Wait time: 15 minutes after we called in for pick up
We oqrdered 2 Khao Soi soup noodle and a Nam Kao appetizer!
The Khao Soi had a lot of ground juicy pork, flavorful broth (kind of tomatoey), and delicious fresh noodles! There is good contrast of flavor with the bean sprouts and cabbage to give it a freshing taste. But the broth is AMAZING! It's hard to describe so you are going to have to try it! It is kinda hard to get all the meat thought since it is finely ground but still delicious!

I phoned in to pick up a mofongo with pepper steak. I got to the store a little early before it finished cooking and they gave me a free espresso while I waited for my food. The food and the coffee was absolutely wonderful! This is a family owned and operated restaurant. ANE cafe is wonderful Dominican addition to a neighborhood full of Chinese restaurants and new American diners.

My takeout order from this quaint Dominican cafe was the perfect Friday afternoon treat! The sandwich was delicious (moist and the meat was so tender), and I also got an empanada, which they made fresh and went well with the sauce they provided. All the food was really fairly priced; in total, I paid $12 for a giant sandwich, plantain chips, and the empanada. The owners are also so sweet, and as other reviews noted, really embody hospitality. Definitely want to try out the mofongo and their morir soñando next time I visit. Check them out!

Look at all this food!! Seriously, this place embodies the meaning of the word hospitality. They’re so nice to us, they make such great recommendations, and most of all they’re local and family owned. We got the chicken and pork lunch plates, and the portions were filling as they were delicious. Definitely becoming a regular here! And did I mention they serve coffee?!

I had just taken my first Covid shot at Fremont High School, and with a chance to grab food in East Oakland, had to really consider my options. Between the great Mexican spots, Cocobreeze, and Lucky Three Seven, there were a lot of solid choices. But I also saw not too far was Vientian Cafe (plus Donut Savant two blocks from there) and as I hadn't had Laotian in a while, that was my spot!
Clearly a family owned and operated restaurant on the corner a residential neighborhood, you get vibes similar to Champa Garden. They are doing take out only now, but the main room is empty so you have space

On 3/8/2021 I order stew chicken with rice and beans. The restaurant is clean, and the food is AMAZING. Out of the Chinatown Spanish restaurants this place is great and the best. The food is fresh and you can definitely expect a good meal. The customer service you receive is spectacular. The people who work here are polite and very friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone for some great food.

Yesterday 3/8/2021 my co-worker told me about this place and gave me a sample of what he ordered which was stewed chicken with yellow rice and plantains. He also had a drink called Morir sonando which was so good I have to say delicious! Morir sonando taste like orange sherbet. Now today 3/9/2021 I had it in my mind to give this restaurant a try and I am so happy I did. You usually taste somebody else food and it be so good then you buy something and be like uhg but no no no! This restaurant is clean and the food was not good but delicious! If I could give AnE Cafe 10 stars I would. I brought the

Food here taste so delicious and authentic. I can't have enough of their Lao papaya salad style and Mok Pla. These 2 menus are my favorite . I bought 6 more Mok Pla to keep in my frozen too. Nam Kao(crispy rice salad) is so tasty too. Prices here are reasonable. The only downside is location. It is located in a shady spot and difficult to find parking spot too but I always go for lunch and right when it opens.

Vientian and I go all the way back when they were serving papaya salad out of the house. When they converted this house into a restaurant, I knew they would thrive. It's a really small restaurant, and they even expanded, adding a little bit of space for dining.
Pre-pandemic, the restaurant was always packed. There's a little discomfort in eating in a very compact space so close to other patrons. You can hear your neighbor's conversation unintentionally. Anyway, I've always enjoyed the food here.
Every time I am in Oakland, I love ordering lots of dishes from here. My favorites

During COVID: They only allow 6 (I think) people inside at a time. All chairs and tables have been pushed aside. There is hand sanitizer inside! However, I noticed there is only one pen; but I didn't have to use it so it wasn't an issue for me.
I ordered through their online site. It went pretty quickly. Food was ready for pickup in 19 minutes, which was great since my drive was about 19 minutes or so to get there. The food was REALLY hot upon pickup. Like, just came off the stove hot. We got a spicy beef noodle soup and a regular ol' yellow curry with chicken. The spicy beef noodle

One of Oakland's best kept secret spots. Right down the street from my old elementary school, used to get pad thai here all the time.
Pre-covid, this was always a solid place to go with friends during our annual Christmas reunions (most of us have moved out, but our parents all still live in town).
Place is small, but has a lot of tables. Obviously you can't dine in during COVID.
Would love to see them continue to thrive. The chicken pad thai is always a solid dish to get.
I got the pork pad kee mao this time, and it had a good ratio of acid and heat. Could do with some pickled peppers

-togo orders- The highly recommended papaya salad was yummm. I got the Thai style and asked for it spicy. When I inquired about what the difference is between Thai and Lao style papaya salad, the owner said if you've never tried papaya salad before, go for the Thai version. The Lao version has a fermented fish taste that some people might not like.
Also ordered the Lao specials - beef stew and bamboo stew. It came it a container that looked small, but the content is enough to be filling, especially if you have it with rice. The bamboo stew smelled interesting, but it tasted great.
