Portia Keene (she/her/hers) has joined the Burkhart Pediatric & Adolescent Dermatology (BPAD) team as the Practice Manager.
She joins the team with years of experience managing a busy urgent care clinic in rural Arizona, and aims to bring her expertise and enthusiasm to help grow and develop BPAD into a practice that focuses on delivering exceptional patient care to babies, children, teens, and their families, while simultaneously supporting BPAD's objectives and mission.

Craig Burkhart, MD, MS, MPH (he/his/him) is one of eight board-certified pediatric dermatologists in North Carolina who totally focuses on children and teens. Prior to opening Burkhart Pediatric & Adolescent Dermatology, he provided pediatric dermatologic care for infants, children, and teens for 11 years as a professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

My 15 year old walked in with my husband to have a mole checked. Upon walking in, without a greeting or hello, the doctor said “you’re here for acne I see” (he doesn’t have bad acne and you could barely see the little he had with a mask on). The nurse piped in and said “he has it on his back too” (which he only has a few). From then on they were forcing a cream on him (which we didn’t want) and telling my son he really needed it. When it came to the mole the doctor said: “don’t ever come here again for these kind of moles” (making my son feel stupid for checking it). We are

I cannot recommend Dr. Burkhart and his practice enough! After talking to my pediatrician 4 times about my son's worsening cradle cap and eczema and not getting a satisfactory answer, I finally found Dr. Burkhart and am so glad I did! He was very kind, patient and non-judgemental and I really appreciated that he took the time to look carefully at my son and the products I had brought in and answer all my questions, especially as a first-time mom. His bedside manner was terrific and he seemed extremely knowledgeable, he knew exactly what to recommend for my son right away and the pharmacist confirmed

Burkhart pediatric dermatology was extremely accommodating to us needing an urgent appointment. I really appreciate the office staff understanding my needs. The treatment from Dr. Burkhart was wonderful, he explained everything we needed to do for my son and we were both very satisfied with the visit. I'd highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Burkhart provides a very unique combination of academic level expertise, with a caring bedside manner, and very convenient scheduling options. He was extremely knowledgeable regarding the cutting-edge treatment options for my daughter's condition, and took the extra time we needed to put her at ease and explain everything to us. This was by far the best doctors appointment I have ever been to. The office aesthetics are very kid friendly and all the staff from beginning to end were amazing and so sweet. Dr Burkhart has a wonderful personality that meshes well with children. Very knowledgeable and put my mind at ease. Would absolutely recommend his practice to anyone needing his care.

I wish I could give 10 stars! The office is awesome and the staff is super friendly. My 2 year old was seen after multiple failed appointments with another specialist who could not help us for a recurring problem she has had for months. Dr Burkhart was kind and friendly and made my daughter feel comfortable. He diagnosed her and gave us a treatment plan that I’m hopeful will work. And just as added comfort, he also laid out options moving forward if first treatment doesn’t work. After 8 visits from 3 doctors previously, I am so grateful we found Dr Burkhart! Wonderful wonderful place!
