Services
Urban Pilates is a fully equipped Authentic Classical Pilates Studio in Northeast Portland. Urban offers Authentic Classical Pilates, using apparatus built from the original design specifications and mechanics of Joseph Pilates' own equipment. Certified Authentic Pilates Instructors at Urban have undergone extensive training, testing and instruction to prepare themselves to guide clients through Classic Pilates workouts.
This is a 4 week beginner/refresher series for the new-to-pilates student or anyone wanting to brush up on their fundamental reformer skills. We will cover basic reformer, mat and wall unit exercises, pilates fundamentals, equipment safety and set up. Must sign up for all classes in the series. One series is 4 classes - cannot mix and match classes.
What is Pilates? Pilates is a method of exercise, developed by Joseph H. Pilates during the First World War, that emphasizes the balance of strength, stretch and control in the entire body. Joe understood that the body repairs and strengthens itself through movement. Pilates is a workout that will keep your body functioning as it ages and enables you to do whatever you enjoy doing for longer.

I love everything about Urban Pilates! From the moment I did my Intro Pack training with the super sweet and extremely knowledgeable owner Linda, I knew I had finally found a workout I could stick with. Since that time nearly 8 months ago, I have been consistently taking small group classes with Whitney. Whitney is amazing! She is extremely well versed in classical Pilates training, as well as traditional physical training methods. I love Urban Pilates! Whitney has trained me for several years and has taught me so much about pilates. Not only is she an amazing person, she is so knowledgeable! She wants to make sure her clients get the most out of their sessions. She is patient and teaches you step by step to ensure you have the proper form. You will get amazing results and feel better than ever with consistency. Whitney also makes working out fun and challenging at the same time. Whitney makes the classes fun, and challenging. No two classes are the same, and the sessions are never boring or monotonous. The 60 minute session flies by and you’re guaranteed to break a sweat and get your heart rate up. Whitney explains each exercise carefully to ensure it is done properly to maximize the workout. Love coming every week and hate to miss a session!

I am very happy to write this review and share my experience working out at Urban Pilates; one of the best decisions I ever made! For those of you that are thinking, “Pilates is like yoga, stretching, not a tough enough work-out”....please read my story....you are wrong! The results are everything! After practicing with different instructors off and on for a decade, I finally found A Home! The Atlanta area Pilates community can now compete with California and New York for not only instruction and knowledge but atmosphere and vibe. This energetic, light filled space is appointed with the ultimate in quality apparatuses and provides the perfect place to achieve the feel, look and vibrancy of the classical Pilates body.
