USKC is a Reston, VA based martial arts school founded in 1983 by Master John K Thomas, former U.S. national full-contact and open-sparring champion and a world record holder in board breaking. The school promotes and teaches the no-nonsense and effective method of practical self-defense to adults and children.
Master John K Thomas combines a unique combination of strategies and techniques from various martial art styles he learned, practiced and taught over 35 years. These training styles, knowledge base and effective use of pressure points will enable a smaller potential victim to prevail over a larger and stronger attacker.

USKC is a great martial arts school.
Master Thomas does an excellent job mixing traditional martial arts with modern techniques. His focus is on practical skills and helping students develop a solid foundation in self defense.
Unlike most schools, which tend to have strong adult classes or kid's classes, USKC manages to provide outstanding classes for both age groups.
USKC typically offers one free trial class for potential students.
If you're curious about this place, there's no reason you shouldn't come out and give it a try.
For those interested, USKC offers full contact sparring, so you

I was looking for a place to learn a practical martial art/self defense. I was researching which martial art is best for what I was looking for and USKC is the place, as he teaches a mixture of marital arts. So you don't have to settle for just one.
Master Thomas takes his advanced skills from Hapkido, Tae-Kwon-Do, Judo, and Akido (maybe some others) and teaches very practical self defense. The classes are very fun and not overcrowded or with stuck-up students. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful.

I have been taking my children here for 20 years. I believe Master Thomas teaches them excellent self defense skills. This is not a belt mill, kids don't graduate to a belt to they have mastered the level they are on. This can be challenging for parent and child who want to see "immediate" progress. But sometimes, that staying at the same level a year or so, is what they need. Growth is not always a steady incline. I have had 2 kids achieve their black belts, and 2 are in process. I love that he has them grappling. It's been especially helpful to my girls. Grappling against the boys and men, who

MOST Highly Recommended!! It will be hard for you to find an instructor like Master Thomas. I had the opportunity to train briefly with him back in the '80's although he wasn't my primary instructor. His depth of knowledge and experience is amazing. He was the king of "mixed martial arts" before there was such a thing! The way you'll learn weapons, Empty hand, juijitsu and all the tools of real life self defense is a unique curriculum that most other teachers haven't developed or really care too... me included! I've been teaching on my own out of state
