Wow! Kornblatt's manages to bring a tiny bit of New York to Portland, Oregon. Come in! The aroma of smoked fish and pastrami is delightful. Cafeteria service is friendly. Prices are okay. My bagel with whitefish was approximately $15., average out of NY. Park wherever you can. There is no lot. Kornblatt's is accessible for wheelchairs. It was clean and the food was excellent.
The photos are from Kornblatt's and the painting is Brothers, 4 x 5", oils on canvas, 2021, by Jaynee Levy-Polis. Offers welcome

What kind of bagel place limits the amount of bagels you are buying. Last 3 times I’ve gone in I’ve waited in line for 30 minutes just for some incredibly rude employee to tell me the most amount of bagels I can buy at once is 3. How can you advertise bulk purchases and then tell every customer that you can not even get a 1/2 dozen of bagels. No self respecting business would ever limit the amount an individual can purchase. The bagels that don’t get sold are then sold on discount the next day so as a Kornblatts it makes more sense to sell bagels at full price rather than a bag of discounted

I haven't yet been to New York City, but in my imagination, Kornblatt's is exactly the sort of place I'd expect to find there!
My wife, a huge fan of the lox bagel, had us drive across town to this old haunt of hers, back when she worked in NW. She raved about the quality of their deli meats, their matzo ball soup and, of course, their lox bagel. Bagel places on the east side, with one exception, just weren't cutting it for her, so it was time to revisit an old favorite, to show me what I've been missing.
There was virtually no line when we arrived, which didn't give me much time to parse the

This place used to be sooo good. I gave it 2 tries on different dates lately and was disappointed both times. The corned beef was not properly cooked and did not seem sliced from the roast, in fact the meat tasted like sysco deli meat. Same for the Pastrami on a different date. Bread was not toasted and was soggy. Matzo ball soup broth was very flat and lukewarm. No pickles on the table anymore (I get it, pickle juice transfers viruses) and the pickle they gave me was very sad indeed. Now to the portions, they are tiny. I would rate the local supermarket deli higher than this place. If you are

I look forward to visiting Kornblatt's whenever I'm in PDX. I'll never NOT get the matzo, but you really can't go wrong here. I had the hot tongue sandwich last time, it was utterly succulent and the bread was the perfect texture. Don't sleep on the kraut or whole pickles! This is an unpretentious, comfort food gem that has delighted me and my dining companions every time.

Authentic New York style deli. Sandwiches are amazing and they have quite the bagel menu. I always love the matzo ball soup. They close at 3:00 so get there early and take some home.

Hands down best Reuben in town. Looking for an authentic NY Jewish deli this is your spot. Don't forget to get the free pickle too. Enjoy!

Definitely a NY style deli. Great service, nice people, affordable, and tasty. Not fantastic food, a little cluttered inside, but good people. It’s really a very NY spot in the middle of Portland.

Horrible place! Made the wrong sandwich, then made the wrong sandwich again, slammed the food on the table, argued that the sandwich was corned beef only, but lady offered mustard, yet no mustard and piled up with onions! Which way is it, only corned beef or corned beef with onions and not the mustard you offered?? No refund! Horrible dirty place!

Doesn't look like much when you walk past. But once you're inside you're transplanted to an old school New York Jewish deli. With smoked meat flown in daily from the NY and bagels made fresh everyday, you cannot go wrong! I'm excited to have this place around the corner from me!!!

I've been a customer here for years but had not been in for about 20 months due to the pandemic. Surely this place has changed ownership, it's not even close to the Kornblatt's I remember. The menu hasn't changed but the food is not the same. It's just ok, nothing more. Any comparison to a NY deli are way off base.

The food was very good; I had a pastrami hot sandwich with an egg, potato salad, pickles, and a side of chopped herring. My sandwich was delicious, and I was satisfied with the food; however, the interaction with the person taking the order seemed a little bit more difficult than necessary. They seemed to not know their own menu; they were surprised with my order of a sandwich from their menu. The person preparing and serving the food kept pulling their mask on and off. The restroom wasn't the cleanest, to say the least. My overall verdict is 5 stars for food and 3 stars for customer service

$16 for a reuben sandwich floating in grease paired with a tiny Dixie cup?
Kornblatt's should not be in business in Portland and would last 2 weeks in NYC. Embarrassing and gutsy to charge $16 for that CRAP! Mitchell In Bend,OR

I've never had a bad reuben sandwich before yesterday at Kornblatt's.
The bread was so hard it was like eating pressed chipboard.
The sandwich was only slightly thinker then a PB and J.
I guess charging me $15.50 for this thing was telling me loud and clear not to return.
we arrived at what i thought was a good time 5 minutes to 3:00PM only to realize they close at 3.
a young employee seemed to think we shouldn't be coming in this close to closing (I overheard his complaint as we ordered and again when he gave me the sandwich through the takeout window.
Unfortunately for me I think

Waited almost 30 minutes for the worst egg salad sandwich I've ever had! This place used to be an institution and I loved to give them my business. It's not the same Kornblatt's I remember. To wait half an hour for a cold sandwich when there's no line seems crazy... then the sandwich itself was inedible, soggy rye bread with barely any egg salad on it (it was almost like a spread instead of the sandwich filling), and the egg salad itself was runny and super weird with red peppers and all kinds of random stuff in it and Russian dressing all over it? Nope. Won't be back

Oy vey. Turkey Ruben was good, but not big enough for that price. Got my order wrong on the club, potatoes portion was tiny and burnt, and the most blasphemous part…when I asked for mustard and looked in the bag later, I saw French’s! It’s gotta be deli mustard at a Jewish deli!

Kornblatts is a neighborhood institution. It is an old-school Portland breakfast restaurant. It does not have any air of pretentiousness that you will find at other Portland restaurants.

The food is great diner faire. My personal favorite is the mixed deli hash with over easy eggs on top. Truthfully you cant go wrong with any of the hashes. If I could have breakfast here everyday I would!

I'm someone who grew up on authentic, kosher Jewish deli in LA and New York, so I was very happy when I learned that there were a couple delis here in Portland. But alas, I was sorely disappointed.

A friend of mine, knowing my love for good kosher deli, surprised me with a gift certificate to Kornblatt's. I was very excited and had been craving deli for a while.

Before I get into the food, I have to say that the appearance of the place looked amazing, which made me smile and excited, and that the staff was very friendly and attentive. So kudos to you guys about that. That's why

I'm from the East Coast. New York to be exact
And these sandwiches are Aiiight.
A New York sandwich is meaty
You order it -they hook it up & bag it
you feel the weight of the sandwich as you carry it.

I ordered a roast beef sandwich on a hoagie with cole slaw. The slaw was ok not that great
I think this place is overpriced -but they are on 23rd so I can imagine the rent.
I know we are living through a pandemic but I'm sure these sandwiches were lacking that New York feel before.

I wouldn't order from them again but that's me.

Simply overpriced and basic sando. Nothing to write home about. It's no wonder people can't afford healthcare...the cost of food is insane these days. That's what comes of dining togo in a bougie hood.

Pro: quality meat
Con: rancid cole slaw / 15 min wait for one sandwich

PLOTZWORTHY

This Jewish delicatessen is the best Portland can offer. They carry boiled bagels, hand sliced Nova Scotia lox, and always have good customer service.

For bagels, lox, and cream cheese there is nowhere else that even comes close to being as good as Kornblatt's.

This Jewish deli has been in business in Portland for 30 years. I had their combination pastrami and corned beef Reuben. It was outstanding. I also had a cup of coffee and it, too, was excellent.
My wife had a Salami Tire sandwich. It's an open face sandwich on bagel with cheese melted under the broiler. She also had something she'd never had before - an Egg Cream Soda. She loved it.
Pricing, service, quality, ambiance were all superb.

A great place for either bagels, breakfast food, or sandwiches. This has been along tree popular street of NW 23rd for as long as I can remember. The combination (corned beef and pastrami) Ruben sandwich is super tasty. The #2 sandwich - roast beef, corn beef, and salami is also good. They also give you jars of pickles...definitely a plus for all the pickle lovers out there! The service is nice and friendly and the vibe is like a simplistic cafe style.
