Ruggie and Carole Van Muijen are residents of Danville, and Ruggie grew up in the Bay Area. He has been in the restaurant industry for 44 years, 35 of those with his own business in the local area, and Carole has taught cooking at Monte Vista High School for the past decade. The Growler has evolved over the years from starting out as a craft beer focused bar, to becoming a neighborhood restaurant & pub with a cozy, familiar feel.

I used to love the Growler! But, I ordered it today (haven't had it since the pandemic started) and it was awful. The Poutots were ok, but not much flavor in the gravy or the tots. The hash wasn't a hash, just chopped pieces of pastrami. The jagerschnitzel was just awful. The pickled cabbage was dry, and had no flavor other than vinegar. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant potatoes, and the jagerschnitzel itself was tough and dry. The only part with flavor was the gravy, and that wasn't even that great. I might try again and see if it was a one-off experience.

We chose the growler because on DoorDash they had burgers available in 30 minutes which was perfect in between meetings. I ordered the Reuben and the jalapeño burger without reading the reviews.
The Reuben looked hearty in the pictures. However, this delicious looking sandwich didn't taste like anything. It didn't taste like grease, it didn't taste like salt, it didn't taste like sauerkraut, it didn't taste like thousand island. I mean, the rye bread barely tasted like rye as it tasted more like wheat bread that looked like rye

Stopped by after hike and enjoyed the dog friendly patio. Ordered the Totchos, because tots, and it was huge, and umami, and filling and the perfect accompaniment to the Bar 1 and Citra Dream draft beers. We also ordered the Reuben which was just okay, but that may be because we were full of Totchos. So much more to try, will definitely be back!

We were able to sit down with our group of 6 right away and whole family and enjoy a nice meal together. The heaters kept us warm and happy. The waitress' were attentive and kind.
The pretzel bites were perfect and we loved our classic fish and chips along with the Pony Express beer on tap! Great restaurant + family!

We love the Growler! Our waiter was Kaelin who we have had twice, and he is adorable and attentive! I would tip him more if he wore a Giants mask. The beer selection is good. You can get rare beers to take home. No need to drink and drive! We like the habanero mango chicken wings. Make sure to get water. No a fan of the devil eggs, but others do.

We went out for one last outing before the lock down. Their were also plenty of other people with the same idea. Plenty of restaurants we're also busy and very crowded. We found out this place which was not so busy and we were able to get a patio table and plenty of seating. The servers were great and super friendly. We had double dipped fries and burgers and vegan chili. Everything we ordered was good and portion wise
was generous. They also had the Sunday Night football game on, as well. We will go there again when lockdown opens up.

I've been coming here forever. It's been six months that I have been socially distancing and not going out. There comes a point where it's not a want it's a need to be with others. And this is a place where everyone knows my name, and even if they don't, they pretend like they do. Sam is the sweetest server and always brings me a cider right away. The management is great. The food is great. I always get a BLT add avocado, and add a fried egg, and instead of fries I get the tots. They are like snow ball sized mash potatoes deep fried. I love them. Thank you growler for giving
