Services
As a classically trained NYC psychotherapist, psychoanalyst by training and Clinical Supervisor, I've been working in Manhattan for the past 10 years, helping individuals, couples and families gain a new and more positive attitude in life. I am especially understanding and successful working with members of the LGBTQ community.
During this life threatening Corona pandemic, social distancing, self-isolation and sometimes quarantine have become essential. In order for patients and therapists to stay healthy, Tele-and Video sessions have replaced in-person-sessions. My extensive experience with Virtual Therapy has started years ago as many of my clients often travel domestically and internationally and they don't want to interrupt their progress.
It's a fact of life that many relationships will get strained at some point in time. Often it is the result of changes in finances, health and the influence of other family members. Tensions and resentments can often flare over the littlest of things. Intimacy is put on hold and each partner loses the feeling of being close to one another.
Many individuals and couples in the LGBTQIA community seek help with the same issues that are faced by heterosexuals - from anxiety and depression to addiction and work-related issues. While many problems have little or nothing to do with sexual or gender orientation, many are directly connected to LGBTQIA identity.
Many of us will experience a period of depression and/or anxiety at some point in our lives. And these moods will pass, usually over time. But for others, depression and anxiety can become all-consuming and often debilitating. Depression and anxiety seem to be related. Many people who are suffering from depression, also suffer from anxiety.

Dr Nick is a wonderful, empathetic, understanding, highly intelligent, highly skilled psychotherapist, capable of helping with a wide variety of issues. I had never connected with a therapist on such a level before, a component which has been the key to my growth. I recommend him both for individual and couples therapy. Therapists like Dr Nick are rare. He will make you feel instantly comfortable. His approach is eclectic and suited to each person's needs, which is also very important. There are a lot of psychotherapists in New York City, but there is only one Dr Nick.

Dr. Helbich... is a complete diamond in the rough... where to begin..... having been going to therapy since the prime age of 6 in which all types of experiences have been had from OK to not so great with various providers I was quite weary of trying out another Manhattan psychoanalyst..
I found Dr. Helbich as a last ditch effort thanks to ZocDoc on a particularly low/chaotic sunday morning.. First delight he actually DID have an appointment for that VERY same day (his office hours are friday-monday) which simply put is an EXTREMELY rare occurrence to obtain a same day appointment for therapy

Dr. Helbich.... where to begin, he is an intensely (in a good way) engaged and insightful therapist. He is extremely patient, geunienly empathic, honest, dedicated, and simply really knows his s***! Especially with deep rooted trauma and a plethora of other issues in my case. You will be thankful to have his brilliance in your life. He is by far the BEST provider I have ever had in the city if not ANYWHERE. His office is very conveniently located by west 4th or 14th St and he also has weekend office hours which are a MAJOR plus. Do yourself and your mind a favor and schedule a session or two with

Dr Helbich was recommend to me 2 years ago by a friend who is also a patient of his. It was the best referral of my life! I was going through a messy divorce and Dr Helbich helped me get my life back in order. He is caring, compassionate, and has a great empathy for his patients. I have learned so much from him. Thank you Dr Helbich!

Dr. Nick Helbich has been a remarkable therapist for me.
He is always engaged and makes sure there is good dialogue. This was especially refreshing since previous experiences had not been that way.
He gives me specific strategies to deal with specific issues, approaching everything with sincere compassion and understanding.
Because of Nick's help, I am a much better person to the most important people around me.
And I can't thank him enough.

Dr. Nick is warm, caring, compassionate, and an excellent listener. He creates a safe space to discuss and explore personal challenges. Dr. Nick asks questions that can be hard to think about, but he does it in a way that encourages thinking about all options and ideas. I highly recommend Dr. Nick Helbich to anyone struggling with any issue at all.
