WARNING RENTERS BE AWARE! Before moving in, make sure you use the checklist and make note of every scratch, scuff, mark, large and small. You may be charged for everything when you move out. Nothing is too small to make note of. I am being charged $200 for re-painting of the bedroom I inhabited. I was told there was more than 10 holes in the wall. I did not place more than 10 holes in the wall but that does not matter. I was told there were other scuffs to the wall. I DID leave a wall mount up which I am aware that I owe for and willing to pay.. Who knew they do not paint the walls at move out

If you live in Starkville, you know this place is a horrible place to live. The Retreat had the WORST move out process and charges that you could possibly imagine. Pretty much if you live there for 2 years you pay for the place to get remodeled when you move out. One of my roommates ended up paying close to $1000 in move out charges. Don’t even get me started on how cheap everything in that place is. You would think for just one whole unit being $2500 a month ($500 each), you wouldn’t have paint that rubbed off the walls when you try to clean.

If you are looking for an apartment in Starkville, MS, I highly advise that you do NOT rent from The Retreat. They charge you absurd amounts when you move out. They take your money but do not fix the apartment for the next renter. When we moved in, the kitchen was filthy dirty...it had not been cleaned from the last renters. Walls had holes where previous renters hung pictures. Carpet was nasty, and we spent weeks trying to get it replaced. Front door, stairs and walls needed painting....which took weeks to get them to paint. At the end of the day, they charge you outrageous amounts when you move

This place SUCKS. I just got charged cleaning fees even after me and my family spent the whole day cleaning before moving out. $430 was charged to my account. This is ridiculous. They are so money focused here it’s crazy I’ve never seen anything like it. If I could give 0 stars I would this place is not somewhere you want to live unless you want to pay stupid fees for things you didn’t even do. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!

There is no parking so forget guests even though you have a guest pass. You’ll be charged for mounting a tv even though the lease states any hole smaller than a dime is okay. The office staff changes weekly as well as many policies. I would recommend staying just about any where else in Starkville than here. It’s not always a beautiful day at the Retreat.

Parents, future students, current students. We all must work together to get this complex to comply with the MS Tenant rights laws. In my opinion, this complex violates your rights when they charge each of you $200 to repaint an apartment that doesn't show damage from irresponsible, careless, or negligent behavior. They have to paint between… tenants anyway but they have changed their business model so that they can pass these costs on to each of you. If you leave a shoe in the apartment you are charged 125.00, even if it's not your shoe, for "cleaning up of debris". So if there are four

Living at The Retreat at Starkville was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. Most of these 5 star reviews are from the retreat blackmailing the individual in order to get out of a fine. Instead of paying, you can post a good review. Totally unprofessional, just as the rest of the staff. I have never had a positive encounter with any of the staff… members. Ridiculous move out charges($200 to paint a tiny spot on the wall). Very run down complex (even though it is new), gun shots regularly, cars completely blocking the road (to where the tow trucks or POLICE can’t even enter the

We had a horrible experience. We left their apartment cleaner than when we moved in but they charged us $230 cleaning fee for carpet that was torn and stained when we moved in & would not remove the charges when all four girls told them it had been this way the whole year . Also my daughter left a whole hanging bag of shoes on 8/26 when she moved… out and went back twice that week to try to retrieve them and they would not let her in her apartment that was leased through the 31 to get her own shoes ! They later said after I called and emailed multiple times trying to get her shoes that

If you’re going to move into this place you’re going to want to bring a safe and hold onto that key at all times. Their own workers will walk into your room without your acknowledgement and go through your personal items. I had some items stolen from me while I was at work along with $300 in cash that I had stored away. The only thing the manager did was send an email “apologizing” for the incident without even trying to help me find the person responsible. It couldn’t of been broken into by anyone else because they have electric locks so anyone who unlocks it has to have a register key

Welcome to the retreat of Starkville where you can’t go to the pool without the office being open. In my opinion if we’re old enough to pay rent we should be able to go to the pool un supervised. This is literally the only apartment in Starkville that treats us like children. It’s Labor Day and we aren’t even allowed to go to the pool. Also the pool has been closed for 3 days.. what am I paying for???

The Retreat is really a nice, clean place to call “home” away from home! Being close to not only the school, but also the needed (shopping centers, health clinics, etc.) and most touristic places in Starkville is a great asset of The Retreat. The staff really make the environment enjoyable! Eddie Price, one of the staff members, always has an eager… mentality and wonderful personality. His skills in showing tours and giving information on the best decisions to make about an apartment, especially as a college student, has really made a difference in the student life!

Very unsafe place to live. There are drugs being actively sold out of multiple apartments, and the management doesn't seem to care about strictly enforcing rules here. There are fights outside of the apartments in the parking lots all of the time, and the sheriffs department takes 15+ minutes to get here. We also had a people throw a party, where guests shot a gun into the air. DO NOT LIVE HERE.
