Building sustaining contentment in life isn't easy but Zen has reliably delivered personal transformation for 2,000+ years. We practice Zen fundamentals in an approachable and inquisitive way: seated and walking silent mediation, talks from local teachers, stories and group discussions. Not a whole lot of chanting or bowing.
Our goal is to encourage each other to transform our responses to the things that make us suffer instead of slapping on a band aid. Its a flexible and adaptable practice that can fit with your life as it is. We meet every Wednesday night, 7-8:30 pm, in Potrero Hill at 824b Carolina St, SF CA 94107; easy parking and public transportation.

The Wind-in-Grass ("WiG") Sangha is a Zen community that meets in Potrero Hill every Wednesday night. WiG was formed in October of 2009, and is open to everyone without exception. Our practice focuses on 25 minutes of seated meditation ("zazen") an evening, and compliments each meeting with presentations, talks from local Zen teachers, and/or the discussion of teaching stories ("koans").
If you have ADHD meditation is a struggle - to start or to get the most out of it. Maybe that is because traditional forms of meditation are built by and for people with more typical minds. For four weeks we are going to explore whether we can approach meditation to take advantage of our unique minds and attentions instead of fighting them.
All donations collected on nights where a teacher has come to speak go directly to the teacher. Any donations given in excess of our operational costs go to a scholarship fund, used to offset tuition of retreats and such. That's it and that's all. Anyone ever is welcome to look at our finances. You don't ever need to give.
You can use the directions on Google Maps or MapQuest or this more elegant solution which is less direct, but much faster. This is how I do it: As you get to the end of the Bay Bridge, take the 5th street/Harrison exit. Get into the left lane, and take a soft left onto Harrison. Go one block. Take a left at the light onto 6th (at the End Up), and head through three traffic lights to the 280S.
