Joanna Clinton Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning method that can help us move in a more efficient way so our body is less prone to injury. Pilates can be beneficial for all ages and fitness levels. I will work with you on your individual needs and goals such as overall strength for daily activities, injury rehabilitation, improving athletic performance, and pre and post-natal fitness.

I offer one-on-one sessions in a private studio space in Berkeley and group reformer classes in El Cerrito and Mill Valley.
Services
Learn how to improve and increase your flexibility and mobility, core strength, alignment, posture and mind-body awareness. An individual personal training session working on the full range of equipment including the mat, reformer, chair, cadillac, ladder barrel and springboard. Whether you want to focus on your fitness goals or are rehabbing an injury, a private session is the best way to progress in Pilates.
Pilates can be an integral part of athletic training and performance. Incorporating Pilates into an established athletic program can help increase body awareness, flexibility, and strengthen stabilizing muscle groups. I have worked with collegiate teams, olympic athletes and athletic individuals, all interested in bettering themselves in their sport.
Pilates is a safe and effective way to strengthen the abdominal wall, back, shoulders, arms, legs, hips and feet during pregnancy. Pilates for pre and postnatal women is a wonderful way to build strength in the first trimester, and increase movement and flexibility throughout your third trimester. I have experience working with women in all phases of their pregnancies.
Joanna was great in working with myself as well as my whole team to improve our swimming through Pilates. She took time to learn about the sport of swimming and was able to relate Pilates concepts to swimming. She has helped increase my body awareness and how I can use it in to better my strokes. Joanna is a very well-trained professional, dedicated and passionate about Pilates and extremely knowledgeable and understanding.
Growing up dancing, my love for movement began before I can remember. I was introduced to Pilates in 2003 as rehabilitation for my lower back. Through my study of Pilates I was able to heal my pain and fundamentally change my body mechanics. That transformative experience led me to become a comprehensively certified instructor through Balanced Body University.

Joanna is careful, kind, motivating. She knew what my body needed without my having to tell her. I am a senior and my balance and strength was much improved after seeing her. Having been a dancer, she is attuned to bodies in a way many professional coaches aren't. Joanna is a pilates pro. I would recommend Joanna without any reservation.

I've worked with Joanna for several years both in individual sessions with the reformer and group mat classes. First for general toning, exercise and wellbeing and then later for pre and post natal Pilates. Her guidance has helped me strengthen, has given me better posture and connected me to my core. I can not recommend her enough! She's amazing!! She's helped me in strengthening through pregnancy and restoring my center after giving birth. She is knowledgeable, kind and motivating. When I started working with Joanna about a year ago. I was out of shape (that's an understatement) but worse than that, my balance was poor. I'm old enough that falling motivated me to finally take action and I'm so glad I did. Joanna has pushed me to build up my strength AND my balance - no falls since learning foot exercises! As a bonus, I enjoy getting stronger and moving more. Joanna is very encouraging and balances just the right amount of expertise, empathy, and encouragement. I feel very fortunate to be guided back to fitness by such a kind and talented person.

Joanna is an exceptional Pilates teacher. She cares about her clients and is willing to talk with them in a pleasant and personal way. Her instruction is precise and she is observant about if you are in the right form. Going to her class makes not only my body but also my mind happy because Joanna is always cheerful and attentive.

Joanna is an outstanding Pilates practitioner! She is smart, knowledgeable, and insightful, and has been instrumental in my recovery from several injuries over the years. She is precise and adept at communicating what she wants you to do. I especially love that she appreciates that everybody has different capabilities and she doesn't try to make you do things that are beyond what your body can reasonably handle. Joanna is a fabulous Pilates instructor! She is extremely insightful, technically knowledgeable and precise, and has excellent communication skills which makes her a not only a great practitioner, but also a wonderful teacher. Her demeanor is just lovely as well. She's very encouraging, but ever so gently challenges me to push a little deeper into my practice.

I have been a regular client of Joanna's for at least five years now and my body has never felt stronger. I look forward to my workouts like never before. I am grateful to have found her and I highly recommend her services.

I can't say enough about how wonderful Joanna is and how much I enjoyed my private sessions with her. She just did everything right. She is so nice and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed, which was no small feat given I had to spend so much time looking at myself in a mirror in tight clothing. And she is just so knowledgable about Pilates, injury prevention and treatment, and fitness. She really focused on what I needed to deal with my back pain and general fitness issues and was always adjusting and refocusing depending on how I responded to the exercises. I learned so much from

Joanna helped me to find way to stretch and strengthen during my pregnancy, gain strength after the birth of my daughter as well as to organize a mom-toddler mat class so that I could continue to work out without needing to hire a sitter all the time. She is a wonderful instructor and took the time to listen to my concerns and to develop workouts that targeted trouble areas as well as full body conditioning. She's great with kids, can handle whatever a group of toddlers can dish out, and is an all around awesome person.
