Services
Al Johnson's is an authentic Swedish family owned restaurant where you can find goats grazing the sod roof. It's quite a sight, and it's made this place one of the most famous restaurants in Door County. Inside the casual, carpeted dining room, young ladies in Scandinavian garb dish out limpa bread and Swedish meatballs.
Al's Butik has always been known for carrying traditional men's and women's Swedish clogs, Scandinavian clothing and gifts, and great specialty food items, but get ready for some fresh new items this year. This season, the Butik managers are excited to offer new product lines and more contemporary items for its customers.
Stabbur is located on the green space next to Al Johnson's restaurant, and the interior serves as a beer cooler while the exterior is a unique bar with beer pulls in the walls. It's also the attractive backdrop to Sister Bay's most unique commercial structure. Al Johnson's executive chef, Freddie Bexell, first concocted our Stockholm Cooler, while Rolf Johnson developed our extravagantly decorated Bloody Mary.
The two web cameras mounted on a rooftop peak of Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant are pointed in slightly different directions, so they reveal 95% of the sod roof's surface. If you can't see the goats in one picture, look closely at the other. The story about how goats came to be on the sod roof of Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant has floated around Door County for decades.

I've been to Al Johnson's only twice in my life and it's definitely one of my favorite Door County experiences! I love watching the goats chomp on grass! The food is excellent. I may be one of the only people that doesn't like their meatballs. They were very rubbery and chewy which through me off. But everything else was excellent!
I love the gift shops! So many unique items. Will always go back when in the area.

The wait is almost as famous as the goats adorning the green grass roof. They do not take reservations. So plan ahead. Maybe eat something before you leave, or have a drink and a snack at the Stabbur beer garden while you wait. Despite the long wait, the service was fast and friendly. If your party's business is more about Swedish Pancakes, and less about conversation, you can be out in less time than you waited.

I've been to Al Johnson's a number of times over the years and every time I go there the place seems to get bigger and more Swedish and I absolutely love that. In the gift shop, which is really my favorite place to go, you can find all sorts of little Swedish knick knacks and of course knick knacks from the other Scandinavian countries as well and it's just kind of a nice little slice of Northern Europe in Door County.

Go for the goats, stay for the food!
Does this place have a long wait? Yes.
Is it worth it? Yes. We went to the beer garden and had a bloody Mary and blueberry mimosa & played bags. Bartender was awesome and I would highly recommend any of the mimosas.
Once we got in our server was fast and our food was in front of us before we knew it. We both had Benedict’s and they were great. The little store inside is cute too. I feel like having to wait is just a normal part of this place because it’s so popular so have a little patience and enjoy!

Excellent experience! Went solo at 9:30am on Labor Day. Got in pretty quickly as a single. The wait for groups of 2-4 was an hour wait. Bigger than that, 2 hours. Ordered the Swedish Pancake Special with Swedish meatballs. It was delicious! The service was fine - nothing special but nice enough. The goats weren't out so that was a little disappointing.

The wait may be long but the food is delicious! They also have activities to enjoy while you wait from corn hole to allowing you to browse their 2 gift stores. With announcing your table over the loud speaker, that allows you to cross the street and enjoy the pier while still being able to hear them call you. The atmosphere was so wonderful. I would absolutely go again and recommend it as a must stop to anyone going to visit Door County or Sister Bay specifically.

Overall a good experience. This is a well oiled machine. The wait is long but once you’re in your food comes fast. We ordered the Swedish Meatballs and Pancakes which came in less than 5 minutes. The food was tasty and great. The service was great as well. The prices was also very reasonable for it being the attraction it is. The aisles are very narrow though so I do not believe that a wheelchair or walker would work too terribly well in this place. Because of the long wait but fast service if you tea Ali g with kids and are in a position to have one adult go early and the other arrive with the
