Mt Tam Bikes Camp
We are outdoor educators who share a talent for teaching, riding and connecting with kids. We are seasoned experts in the coaching, guiding and safety techniques that we have developed and refined over the past 15 years. Our passion inspires kids - whether novice or seasoned riders - and that inspires us.

Ryan Loften is the founder, owner and head coach of Mt Tam Bikes Camp. Since 2006, he has taught Bay Area kids mountain bike skills, trail etiquette, bike mechanics and local ecology. Born and raised in Mill Valley, he grew up BMX racing, dirt jumping and mountain biking all over Mount Tamalpais and Marin County.
Services
OUR fun, NON-COMPETITIVE program is focused on building bike handling skills and DESIGNED TO MEET EACH RIDER AT THEIR ABILITY. The same skills sets that make you a better rider also keep you safe. Our rides may include, but are not limited to: Both sides of Mt Tamalpais, Marin Headlands, Camp Tamarancho and China Camp.
Are you are on a trip, new to the area, planning a biking birthday party or looking for a fun team building activity for your business? We are here to create a custom tailored experience for you, your friends, your family or business. We love guiding and entertaining groups.

With an in depth knowledge of trails, access to all types and levels of bike equipment, along with transportation for people and bikes, we can help you create a day to remember. We can also assist you with your existing event.
We are available for beginner to advanced skills instruction along with guided rides for kids, adults and groups. Creating a strong foundation of bike control helps every rider safely progress their skill sets. Building confidence, while strengthening a riders connection to their bike and terrain, elevates every riding experience.
It all started with a request from a neighor in 2006. Since then I have taught over 200 kids and 8 adults how to ride a bike. The day you learn how to ride is an important one and I always love being a part of that. I generally get the hard cases and at times spend as much energy helping the rider get comfortable with wanting to ride, as I do with actually teaching them how to ride.
Zev K, Age 12: This upcoming summer will be my fifth at Mt Tam Bikes Camp. I started going to camp when I was 8 years old and a beginner biker. It was the first time I ever went biking on the mountain. Because of Mt Tam Bikes Camp I now love mountain biking and riding on the mountain every week. During camp, we ride on different trails every day of the week.

Awful experience for my daughter. They should be clearer in their message that it's for novice Mountain bikers(not novice bikers). They basically gave up on my daughter and asked me to pick her up in China Camp the first day because she simply lacked the skills and couldn't keep up. Now her morale and confidence towards riding a bike are at an all time low. Thanks, Mt. Tam Bikes Camp.

Mt. Tam is a phenomenal camp for kids! It gets kids outdoors, exercising, exposed to nature, and
interacting with peers. Ryan Loften and his team are kind, responsible, and professional. They teach the kids to ride safely, and enjoy the experience. The confidence and joy gained from this camp are
impressive. My son has participated for many years, and keeps coming back. Ryan will help you prepare your bike for the rides, or provide a rental. This type of outdoor experience is sorely needed in a world where tech is threatening to dominate our kids' lives. This camp is truly a gift you can

My 8 year old son is loving Bike Camp! Despite my initial trepidation that he wouldn't be able to keep up with the older kids, his confidence and skill have improved markedly since we signed him up. He wakes up eager to go each morning and already can't wait for his next session. I love knowing that he's having such a great experience and that he's in excellent hands with Ryan and his staff. I only wish I had signed him up earlier because sessions fill up fast and we could only get him in for two weeks this summer. We'll be on it sooner for next year!
