We are Sherif and Nadine Farag, and the Elephantine Bakery is our dream. How we got here is a journey with twists, turns, and heaps of serendipity. The short version is this: Nadine rebelled first. After earning a Masters and completing one year of doctoral studies in global health, both at Harvard, she left with a sense there was something different out there for her.
A short while later, living in New York City, and working in management consulting at McKinsey & Company, Sherif too started asking the big questions: what matters, what is success? The Elephantine Bakery is our collective answer. It is an endeavor that we believe in, one that reflects our deepest values: good food, a beautiful setting, the nurturing of community, and the art of living well.

Made with Valrhona Dutch processed cocoa powder and frosted with rich dark chocolate, this is a decadent classic chocolate cake. Spiced with ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, our aromatic carrot cake is finished with a cream cheese frosting. Made without nuts. About the land: Located on the shores of Lake Garda in Northern Italy's Lombardy region, the C dei Frati vineyard benefits from the mineral-rich soil in the land surrounding the lake. The vines in this rocky land must work harder to pull hydration from the soil, resulting in some of Italy's most robust and complex wines.

What a fabulous place! Everything from the owners and staff to the quality and flavor of food is unparalleled. You kow because this tiny Cafe is absolutely packed all the time! I recommend if you want to eat in, order and be patient, a table will open. Or, order online and pickup. This is a must try in Portsmouth. I go at least once a week!

Everything I had here was wonderful. You can tell they care about everything they serve. The staff were attentive and friendly as well. I had a spicy poached egg dish that was divine. The croissants are huge and tasty - some of the best I've had. I'll definitely be going back here. It's a tiny place without a lot of seating, so be prepared for that if you plan on eating in. I only had to wait a few minutes for a table to clear out.

I have visited Portsmouth a couple of times, over the past 2 years. This time, I was able to go with my hubby and am a little disappointed that I had never come across this gem, until now!!
We came on a Sunday morning and it was busy! Many individuals were seated inside and outside, both of which were feasible on a beautiful Fall morning. We were greeted by friendly, warm and welcoming staff, who made our visit that much more enjoyable π.
Once we we found our seating, our beverages and food were brought to us within a reasonable time. The food.. was INCREDIBLE! Each of the dishes we enjoyed

These folks have it dialed in! Best almond croissant. Loved the egg simet and honey ricotta toast! There was a short line (of course, itβs Sunday morning) and the person who took our order was graciously thanking folks for waiting. That was a thoughtful and classy touch. Our cappuccinos were brought out to us right away quickly followed by the rest of our order. Everything was perfect and delicious.

Absolutely amazing experience!!! Was venturing in New Hampshire for my 16th birthday and decided to have brunch here. The staff was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic! I ordered the ricotta and honey toast (which was fantastic) and the staff sung happy birthday for me with a candle on the toast, a great way to start the morning of my birthday! Overall, an exquisite cafe!!! π

I first discovered Elephantine at the beginning of 2020 and have made countless visits since. It has managed to handle the COVID-19 pandemic in an adept way while maintaining its status as a meeting place for groups of all ilks and the quality of its food and service. The staff are exceedingly friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful, making each visit feel like a trip to see an old friend. It is clear that the owner approaches each aspect of running their business with intention. The pastries and coffee are of an extremely high caliber, ensuring consistent repeat customers.
